A roleplaying history nerd, a forumgamer, and a feminist ally. .

Pro-Capitalist’s defense of capitalism is just explaining how it works, and then when you say “yes I know, I just think it shouldn’t be like that” they explain it to you again but angrier this time

They say “It’s fair because the people who own capital earn all the rewards” and then you say “I dont think owning capital entitles you to all the profits” and then their brain short circuits

“He invested capital”

“Yes and then a thousand other people did work while he sat around and profited.”

“But… he invested capital….”

they literally CAN NOT FATHOM that I know how capitalism works and just oppose it on moral grounds

The logistics:

Anonymous asked:

my dad keeps on talking about how "straight white males are being persecuted" and that "a good army is made of heterosexual men" these points make no sense how do people believe this crap

I’m like 85% sure your dad hasn’t been in the military.

Theben's sacred band would like to have a talk...

IN A RARE GOOD BIT OF AMERICAN NEWS, THE SUPREME COURT'S REACTION TO THE NORTH CAROLINA CASE OF "WE CAN DO WHATEVER WE WANT WITH FEDERAL ELECTIONS, ACTUALLY" WAS BOTH KEPT BY THE COURT AND DENIED WITH A FAIRLY RESOUNDING "YOU KNOCK THAT SHIT OFF"

This is huge. Every court watcher was predicting that the bench would side with the NC Republican Party because at least 5 justices had authored opinions supporting ISL theory. Not only have they struck it down, they’ve also established judicial precedent to enforce Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act more rigidly than ever before with  Allen v. Milligan. Alabama has been required to create a new black-majority congressional district, and the court just cleared the way for the same thing to happen in Louisiana. The Milligan decision establishes a very aggressive interpretation of the VRA’s ban on racial gerrymandering, essentially requiring states to factor in the proportionality of their non-white population when drawing congressional districts. And now with the Moore v. Harper decisions, state courts have the power to enforce that ruling and invalidate a LOT of the congressional maps in the US on the grounds of racial gerrymandering. This is a body blow to institutional racism that cannot be understated. And it came from the most conservative bench in modern history. Who would’ve thunk it?

I stated this really off the cuff and flippantly because I wasn’t expecting it to break containment, but this is a great actual breakdown of the situation for Americans who do need to know this and keep an eye on this, and also for anyone internationally who might be interested.

And corporate media has been a willing accomplice to this false equivalence, by misusing and completely bastardizing the meaning of the word “moderate”

Joe Manchin and Mitch McConnell, for example, could write a bill saying that everyone making less than $20k annually should be forced to work in coal mines and have their right to vote removed, but as long as Manchin and McConnell didn’t use curse words or raise their voices, our lapdog media would still insist on calling them “moderates”

Every time a Republican smiles into the camera and pleasantly suggests a truly heinous policy that will kill poor people, and then some media pundit calls them a “moderate” politician, I want to throw my television directly into the sun

Please pay attention to who the media calls “moderate” and who they label “extreme”

The framing matters. Words matter. Words mean things. Our media has been dutifully shifting the meaning of the word “moderate” further and further to the right, providing cover for obvious political extremists. It’s not by mistake

The media is complicit

Currently sat in a summer school type thing we're hosting in work and some English architect is telling us about sustainable design in Wales, except she hasn't bothered learning a single Welsh name and if I have to listen to one more "I don't know how to say 'Welsh name' so I'm going to use 'shitty English name/nothing while laughing at it' I'm going to throw this slanty drawing desk at her head

Spot the unforced errors:

"Wales has three national parks. There's the one I can't pronounce so I'm going to say Brecon Beacons, there's Pembrokeshire Coast, and there's Snowdonia."

Said with that lil laugh English people do when they say this stuff, because they think they're being funny and charming in a 'what am I like' way rather than disrespectful and arrogant as fuck

"This one is by a reservoir in Gwent I can say, tee hee! Landy something, but-"

Me: Llandegfedd

Her: uh... yes, so difficult! Tee hee!

FUCK OFF

"This one is called... Um... I don't know how to say it tee hee!"

Me: Ysgir.

Her: I'm so bad at Welsh haha

YOU ARE DELIVERING A THREE QUARTER HOUR LECTURE TO WELSH STUDENTS IN WALES ABOUT WELSH INFRASTRUCTURE

YOU HAVE MULTIPLE WELSH SPEAKING COLLEAGUES CRAWLING OUT OF THE WOODWORK WHO COULD HAVE TOLD YOU

LEARNING TO PRONOUNCE THE PLACES SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRIORITY ONE YOU ARROGANT BITCH

Like listen. LISTEN. I know this is entirely normal. I know this is so exceptionally common that about 80% of English people do it, I know they think it's funny, I know they don't even see there's a problem, I know I'm basically kicking off at rain in a wet country. I don't know why this extremely normal and commonplace occurrence is nettling me this much today.

But last year, I gave a lecture on grassland management. As part of it, I told the students about the ngitili silvipastoral systems in Tanzania. I am in no way saying I'm perfect!!! I am not a template to be copied!!! But ahead of that lecture, I scoured YouTube until I found a video of an indigenous person in Tanzania talking about the system!!! And I listened to how they pronounced it, and I memorised it, and then I even wrote out the phonetic pronunciation on the slide so my students could learn too, because not bothering to learn that while then presenting myself as an authority on the subject would have been grossly appropriative and colonialist and also plain fucking rude.

And none of those students were Tanzanian for me to insult to their faces

Fewer than 500 notes on this post and the first apologist has already popped up 🤡

oh so they’re just saying the quiet part out loud? Good to know they’re just out and open now

That’s not the quiet part.

There’s something else, something they might not even be fully aware of themselves. The real quiet part is that if it was *their* child or *their* ectopic pregnancy they’d pull out all the stops to save their life or get their grandchild aborted. Planned Parenthood sees reactionaries and regressives all the time, and they are every bit the nightmare patients you’d imagine them to be. But the one thing all those patients have in common is that *their* abortion is *justified*, and the next week they’ll be outside the clinic again, rejoining the protestors for “killing their baby”.

It’d be one thing to have ghoulish principles, but the far-right have none at all.

They even DARE calling their opponents ghouls. These people make me sick.

French people raised half a million. Half a fucking million for the family of the cop who murdered Nahel Merzouk, an Algerian boy.

Well we don’t know the value of an Algerian life in France but we sure now know the reward for killing one.

To all the French people who say France is not racist fuck you. To all the Europeans who pretend to be so much better than the US a huge fuck you. To all the people getting a hard on over France fuck you. To all the people who even think about mentioning how destroying public property is bad fuck you. Fuck everyone who is not revolted by what happened.

If there’s a way to donate to Nahel’s family please do it if you can.

I thought I had shared the link for Nahel’s family but apparently I didn’t do it on tumblr. Thank you for your reblog it reminds me to do it. The link to help Nahel’s family (mom and grandma) is here

The cop is now a millionaire. Becoming a millionaire less than a week after killing an Algerian teen. All that money a support for the murder. It doesn’t even matter if the government cancel the crowdfunding now because the message was sent.

Donate to the family of the actual victim if you can. The link is just in the previous reblog.

Republican Senators are the most obnoxious variety of asshole.

Voting Nay, then bragging about the benefits of the government investment, is truly vile.

Cornyn and Cruz could only exist in Republican politics.

Hey, so I’d like to say thank you to all who are accepting us Reddit refugees. As someone who’s always wanted to get into Tumblr, I guess I never officially did, until the Reddit blackout. I mean I created an account a while back to lurk at awesome and lovely fanart but this recent controversy made me flee here.

Been kinda sad, disappointed, but not surprised that Reddit is heading towards the direction thanks to spez.

So, I’d like to say thank you once more for accepting us :)

Oh and I absolutely love how you’re all just unapologetically outspoken on your burning and fierce hatred of capitalism lol please never stop the momentum
