Ordered A Link Between Worlds, Pokémon Sun, and Explorers of Time

I’m pretty excited to try out some older games after being reintroduced to my love for Nintendo

Okay, but what’s the point of Fennbirn having Queens? They usually don’t rule for very long and then the Black Council governs for 16.5-17 years while the next gen of queens is gestated, born, raised and competing for the throne. Obviously there are outliers of queens with super long rules (I think Kendare said that Queens never become infertile and that there was a queen who was ~90 when she had her triplets) but Camille was only on the throne for 7 years and in the TDR prologue it mentions that Warrior rules were notably “short and brutal”. If all these reigns are short (or at least shorter than 16-17 years) then are the queens really ruling for long enough that it’s worth it to put all this onus on the monarchy as a system?

Think about it.

I think Kendare was trying less to make a point about real world politics and was trying more for a story where she could explore traditionalism vs. change, the concept of individual will clashing with said traditionalism, and the role of religion in politics. It definitely doesn’t make sense for Fennbirn to have a monarchy considering how short some reigns can be, but I think we’re supposed to suspend our disbelief when it comes to considering the more practical aspects of this world’s political system.

BILLY WITH A FLOWER CROWN! Can you imagine how cute that would be? And say what you will about the series, but I love it when authors give these detailed explanations about their world even after the series is over.
