not related to spn at all, but i would to bring you guys’ attention to the fact that the president/dictator of azerbaijan, ilham aliyev, opened a museum today displaying helmets of dead armenian soldiers and scenes made of clay of dead armenian soldiers that were killed during the 2020 armenian-azeri war.

anti-armenianism is rampant in azerbaijan and aliyev has made it clear many times that he hates armenia and armenians. but a museum like this? this is new.

please spread this. i want people to know how fucked up the azeri government is and how anti-armenianism didn’t end after the genocide.

it’s also important to note that april is armenian history month (and genocide remembrance month) and april 24th is armenian genocide remembrance day.

it’s fucking deliberate.

back to this because the following pictures got released.

free for kids under 6. they’re really taking it as an amusement park.

the girl is literally strangling the wax caricatural armenian. because yes, in case you didn’t know, ethnic stereotypes are part of anti-armenianism. plus there’s the following screencap which says everything on the way they represented armenians.

these aren’t the only pictures, btw.

they’re brainwashing their children into hating armenians.

but this isn’t even new.

there’s a video out there of an azeri teacher actually teaching azeri kids to hate armenians. brainwashing them into thinking armenians are their enemies. it’s pretty easy to find, just google ‘azerbaijani kids taught to hate armenians’.

PLEASE spread this.

Stepping Stone Path 🌼

I needed a path for my island so I spent the last few hours making this stepping stone path! I really love how it turned out so I wanted to share. ✨

The path consists out of 6 parts: Two main tiles and four edge tiles. With the edge tiles you are able to create smooth looking curves and diagonal paths! And if you place the two main tiles alternatively, the path gets a more random look.

I hope someone finds them useful as well! Have fun! 💖

[Text of Tweet: George Takei: If you are turned away at the polls because your name is not on the register, don’t walk away. Say this: I REQUEST A PROVISIONAL BALLOT AS REQUIRED BY LAW.

Don’t let them steal your vote]

Additional info:

Provisional Ballot Laws are laws that require a provisional ballot upon verficiation of the idenity of the voter if a voter fails to present proper identification at the polls or when registering before voter registration deadlines.”

Copied from facebook (source: John Young)

Poll worker here! Let’s talk about this “I DEMAND A PROVISIONAL BALLOT AS PROVIDED BY LAW” thing.

== TL:DR; Yes, provisional ballots are important! And yes, you should absolutely ask for one if you need to. But there’s a couple of things to try first. A provisional ballot is a last resort. ==

It’s very common for voters to come up to the “check-in” desk, and not be found in the poll book. Some non-nefarious reasons why that might be the case:

1) The poll worker doesn’t understand how to spell your name. 2) You’re not in the right precinct (this happens ALLLL the time) 3) New married name? 4) You’re a college student, and you are registered, but you’re registered at home.

Here’s my recommendation for what to do: * Make sure the poll worker is looking in the right spot (the book will be right in front of you; you can help find your name.) * Mention your home address to the poll worker. THey may very well immediately say something like “Oh! Yes, you should be voting in the cafeteria. Here in the GYM, we are your next precinct over.” * Ask politely to speak to someone to verify your status with the county. They will get on the phone with county folks, who will look you up in their BIG COMPUTER.

The steps above will, eight times out of ten, change you from the scary status of “Huh? you don’t exist!” to “Oh, right! Okay, here you go, voter!”

If that doesn’t work, ask firmly and politely for a provisional ballot. If you say “AS PROVIDED BY LAWWWWW”, you will only get an eye-roll from a tired and hungry poll-worker. But hey, you do you – it really IS the law.

If you don’t get satisfaction, all is not lost. Step outside the precinct and call the ACLU, and they will send someone over to have some FIRM WORDS with the Judge of Elections.

How do I know? I’ve had ACLU lawyers sent to talk to me during an election: “Hey, we heard that you were turning voters away!” they said.

I wasn’t, but I DID NOT MIND having someone smart and informed come to check on what was up. The ACLU counsel was smart, engaged, and knew the rules. Had I been trying some crap, this person would have SHUT. IT. DOWN.

So, the BOTTOM bottom line is: 1) Provisional ballots are a last resort. You can read up on them; they’re definitely riskier than a full, “real” ballot. You want to vote at your proper precinct as your first choice. 2) Don’t panic if you’re not in the book. Are you in the right place? 3) If you decide you do need a provisional, be firm, polite, and persistent. There’s no “secret phrase” that’s going to make us poll workers hiss with dismay: “CURSESSSSSSS! They know about the provisionalssssss!” 4) But do stick up for yourself! And if you don’t get what you want, call it in! There’s LOTS of folks to help!

Hurricane Irma is expected to make landfall in the US Friday and the governor has just declared a state of emergency throughout the entirety of Florida

On the heels of Harvey all I can say is please pray that Florida and all the countries in the Caribbean in Irma’s path avoid the worst and that no lives are lost

With the seas getting warmer and our infrastructure neglected, storm damage is going to get worse. Waiting it out is not an option.

If you’re in the path of the hurricane here are some vital information packets:

And please please please if you decide to evacuate, do so early especially if you live in a more populated city. Streets will be packed, and you can get trapped in the traffic, which can be highly dangerous if the hurricane hits and floodwaters rise.

During hurricane Rita, people were stuck for up to 24 hours in gridlock, and more people died on the road than from the hurricane. And had this happened in hurricane Harvey, a category 4, people trapped in their cars would have drowned and the death toll would have been even higher.

So for a category 5 like Irma (albeit Rita was supposed to be a cat 5 when it made landfall but decreased to a cat 3, though better safe than sorry), people being stuck in the roads trying to escape can present a major problem if it’s a large city (of course if you’re in a small town and can leave, leave).

Trust me, if everyone’s leaving all at once, you’re better off just staying home (so evacuate early or not at all). And if floodwater does get in your home, do not go into your attic if you can’t get to the roof from there, it’s just as dangerous as getting stuck in a car in floodwater.

And, like in Harvey, if you are a civilian with a boat and floodwaters rise, please check on your neighbors and help them evacuate then via boat.

Do not underestimate the flooding in Texas right now.

Houston has had over 18" of rain fall over the past 24 hours and they’re expecting at least 2ft more in the next 24-36 hours. They are underwater. The rain isn’t going to relent until at least Wednesday.

There are still tornado watches going up, and with shelters and basements under water this will make things worse.

We need to rally together and donate to relief efforts. The Weather Channel has already said that this will be the worst flooding event in US history.

Donate to local crisis control resources. Please share any reliable links and numbers you have. A lot of peoples’ go-tos are The American Red Cross and The Salvation Army, but if you want to avoid those large groups it will be better to donate to local resources. You can also donate to Save the Children, Samaritan’s Purse, and Heart to Heart International.

Coalition for the Homeless runs the shelters in the city of Houston https://www.homelesshouston.org/take-action/donate/

Donate to Corpus Christi’s children’s hospital, which is directly in the path of the storm. http://www.driscollchildrens.org/

Texas Diaper Bank is making disaster relief kits, and you can donate at http://www.texasdiaperbank.org

Feeding Texas is a network of food banks that will need assistance https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/feeding-texas

Please share this and get the word out.

Also don’t forget Portlight http://www.portlight.org/ They’re getting disabled folks out who’ve been left stranded.

8/29/17 update!!

Areas in south eastern Texas have already received over 50" of rain, and through Friday they are expecting 7-13" more. Civilian boats are going in to perform rescues, as Coast Guard crews have lessened the frequency of their rescues.

People are drowning in their attics. There are thousands of missing people, and the death toll is growing. Standing water is an enormous health hazard, with children, chronically ill and elderly folks being most at risk. The estimates for people needing shelter are over 30,000. FEMA is expecting 450,000 in need of assistance in some fashion.

Tropical Storm Harvey has headed back out into the gulf and is predicted to make landfall AGAIN, this time farther east, affecting other parts of eastern Texas as well as Louisiana. Southwestern Louisiana is expecting 25+ inches of rain.

Please donate to LOCAL resources first. They have the crews on the ground and better direct access to help. SA and Red Cross have a history of neglect and embezzlement.

Hospitals are still in need of blood. https://southtexasblood.org/
