All that Glitters

@forestlingincorporated / forestlingincorporated.tumblr.com

I just post whatever I feel like. Mostly batfamily and tmnt, sometimes Star Trek. AO3: LilliputianDuckling

someone: hey I noticed this thing you did in your writing!

me, kicking my feet up flirtatiously: oh??? do you want to hear my thoughts on why I did that? do you want a play-by-play of the language choices in every related sentence? do you want an exhaustive breakdown of The Themes???

I find there is a 50/50 chance of this situation being:

a) Wow, I'm really glad you noticed that! I spent ages considering the implications and how it ties into the themes. Please let me talk to you for three hours straight about my thought process.

or

b) Erm... that thing... yeah... that was definitely a deliberate thing... I absolutely meant for that thing to be there honest

Hihi!!! It is Mx. Anonymous who asked for 2003 don fic recs over at Ame’s place :3 Thanks for sending some over!!! I’d read them before but have put them back on my re-read list now you reminded me of them haha!!! If you have any more reccy recs i would be more than happy to receive mwahaha! Have a wonderful day!

Hello again! While I've mentioned all the 03 Don fics in my bookmarks, I'll offer some other tmnt rec's!

Elemental Brothers, by fireworksinthenight. This is an AU set in the Avatar universe that somewhat combines multiple iterations, with an emphasis on 2012. Human AU, Leo and Raph centric.

I am also fond of If You Cross Over, also by fireworksinthenigh, which is an 03 and 2012 crossover.

Eldest Brother, by dEBB987 is one of my favorite on-going fics right now, which is a Rise and 2012 crossover (KIND OF... it has some AU elements).

the Little Scraps of Wisdom series by clandestineClairvoyant is a Rise AU where Yoshi was never mutated but ended up with four turtle children anyway.

I'll also direct you to my own AO3, which I won't recommend, per say, as the author, but I do have one 03 Donnie centric fic, though it is an Usagi/Donatello. Do with that information as you like.

Anonymous asked:

as one of the major 03 cool dudes on this site, do you have any good 03 don fic recommendations? i am completely obsessed with the dude n have read so many but always am looking for MORE MWAHAHA!! so yeah, just wondering :3

I don't read a whole lot of fics, actually! But I can give you a reccomendation;

Anything written by @halogalopaghost is going to be great. I know @20s-turtle-posting also has some very good Don fics hidden on their tumblr somewhere.

Me, me, me, I got some, Mx. Anonymous!

Since you’ve asked Ame, I’m sure you’re aware of their beautiful and amazing Ghost in the Shell, but I’ll give it an honorable mention anyway for anyone who hasn’t, because it is fantastic.

But may I also draw your attention to:

Winter’s Edge, by T33la. This one has some graphic imagery of injury and near drowning, but it is an exceptional Don & Raph sibling fic. Heavy angst with a happy ending.

He Stands Firm With His Bleeding Heart, by MyChiliPeppers. This one’s a turtle tot fic focusing on Donnie. MyChiliPeppers also has more very good turtle tot fics.

thank you @silverwhittlingknife for the tag!! ^^

WIP Files Game

RULES: post the names of the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! tag as many people as you have WIPs

  • Pitter Patter Baby Makes Five
  • Usatello Pt. 2
  • Lost and Found

There’s... more, but these are the only ones being actively worked on.

Since silver combined this with a different game where you post an excerpt from one of your wips, so will I! How about a snippet from the one I’m most actively working on at the moment?

Here’s a snippet from Lost and Found.

“Man, I can’t believe my sister’s in town,” April scowled, lounging in the pool floaty she and Leo had dragged up to the top of the hotel that housed the rooftop pool they were fond of sneaking into. Leo took a running jump into the pool. “Cannonball!” April squealed as water splashed over her. Leo sank all the way to the bottom, and then kicked off, spitting water at her when he broke the surface. April laughed, splashing him back. “What’s so bad about your sister being in town?” Leo asked, clinging onto the edge of her floaty. “Ugh, what isn’t?” April scowled. “First time in ages Mom and Dad are both home, and she’s gotta show up all like ‘ooooh, ‘rents! I’m in town! We should totally hang out the whooooole time I’m in New York’ - as if they aren’t gettin’ back on a plane to who knows where by the end of the week.” April crossed her arms, scowling. “I was lookin’ forward to actually spending time with them, and to make it all worse? She is soooooo messy! Like, so messy. I hate living with her, I was so glad when she went off to college.” “Sounds rough,” Leo hummed, floating on his back. “You are so lucky you don’t have any siblings.” Leo pursed his lips, staring up at the night sky above them. The two sit in silence for a while, the weight of it growing heavy on Leo’s chest. He chewed on his lip, eyeing April lounging next to him picking at a chip in her nail. “...I had a brother, April.”

Now, let’s see, who to tag....

any projects you feel like sharing? no pressure, only do it if it looks fun! let me know if you'd rather not be tagged

thing I keep (unconsciously) doing while writing is that I sometimes mix more than one character’s POV together, not in the same sentence (thankfully) but in some of my works the perspective of the characters keeps switching back and forth between this character and the other character, and I don’t know whether or not it’s confusing to the readers? like in this one paragraph it’s written in character A’s POV. then in this next paragraph it shifts to character B’s POV. and there isn’t a direct indication that directly says ‘okay this paragraph is in character A’s POV’ so…

I do think it's potentially confusing, but "potentially confusing" isn't the worst thing in the world? It depends on your audience and the effect you're going for.

I had soooo many rambling thoughts about this sdfsfsdf so I put them below the cut.

  • Examples: some books I've read that switch between different POVs, and my takes on how confusing it is in each (Allegiant, Miracle Creek: A Novel, Ulysses)
  • My writing

We need a digital archive of LGBTQ+ works of art, science, and every other conceivable work we can share between each other because we are beyond the genocide warning level in most countries in the west and they're already trying to purge us from libraries.

If other people are interested I'll make this a priority

Speaking as someone with a background in archives, stuff like this does already exist. No need to reinvent the wheel. Creating an archive and making sure it's accessible and searchable and actually preserves things for the long time (especially digital things) is actually a huge undertaking. Show some love to these already existing collections and maybe even consider contributing. There's the Digital Transgender Archive off the top of my head. I know more I just have to think.

The History Project, based in Boston, is an LGBTQ+ community archive that's existed for decades. Many of their collections are digitized.

The Lesbian Herstory Archives, based in Brooklyn, is similar.

The Digital Public Library of America covers a great many topics, but they also have LGBTQ+ stuff.

I'd also recommend searching "lgbtq+" and "libguide" in your preferred search engine. Many universities list helpful resources and databases, some of which are freely accessible.

Many public and academic libraries in the US and Canada (not sure where you're writing from) subscribe to the Gale Archives of Sexuality and Gender. If you have a library card or are a student at a given library, you can access it for free.

In general, I'd really recommend searching around to see how you can support existing museums, community archives, college and university archives, etc that specialize in LGBTQ+ history and media local to you, whether that's in your same town or regionally.

You are not alone! People are working on this and some of them have institutional budgets!

But also kind of looping back to the first post: you personally might have relevant records. Photos of Pride or protests you've been to, journals, a blog full of trans headcanons even. That's all part of queer history and that's the stuff these archives and museums are made of.

Label your stuff carefully, make backup copies, and get to know your local organizations!

We're also working on building an open access archive and actively looking for content contributions! https://about.jstor.org/revealdigital/hiv-aids-the-arts/

University and community archives both are doing so much important work in curating and preserving queer history! And even the academic collections are generally still open to the public, whether that looks like you coming into the reading room at a local university to look at their materials or emailing the librarians to ask for photos or scans of them.

Also, like, even if they're affiliated with institutions, queer archives at universities and museums are generally still curated and cared for by queer folks. I work in a queer history archive at my university, and all of us who regularly work with the collections are queer, the curator is even another trans person, and we have strong connections with other queer people and organizations in the surrounding community.

Academic and cultural institutions like historical societies, libraries, and universities have facilities built to preserve archival materials -- everything from books and zines to pins, banners, t-shirts, and etc -- and people trained in curation and conservation. And often we want to connect with the local community so we can house and preserve their stories and materials for a long time!

All the archives that have been added to this post are great, but here's a few more to look at if you're interested in finding a queer archive near you -- or one further away with materials that interest you. Australia: The Australian Queer Archives

Bosnia & Herzegovina: Kvir Arhiv

Canada: The ArQuives (formerly the Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives)

Spinnboden Archiv (focused on lesbian history)

Forum Queeres Archiv München (focused on queer history in Bavaria and Munich)

South Africa: GALA Queer Archive

Switzerland: Verein Schwulenarchiv Schweiz (focused on the history of gay men in Switzerland)

OutLoud Collection at StoryCorps (an oral history project)

The Rainbow History Project (focusing on queer history in Washington D.C. and the surrounding area)

The Invisible History Project (focusing on queer history in Alabama and the American South)

The Gerber/Hart Library and Archive (focusing on Midwestern queer history and culture)

Also -- I know what's happening today is incredibly scary, but there are so many archives all over the world documenting our history, and so many people devoting their lives to preserving everything from groundbreaking political manifestos to kitschy ephemera. And supporting queer archives is more important than ever. My first day of work in the collections, the curator handed me a charred book that had been rescued from the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft book burnings, and nothing has ever driven home more that the work of archivists is both critical and powerful, especially in this day and age. Support queer archivists and queer archives, save materials and find one to house your own collections no matter how random they might seem, and go out and learn about our history!

Something that I was kind of thinking about was how Leo kind of has a habit of leaning on Donnie

And though I kind of know that it isn’t really quite the same it kind of reminds me of how Red Eared Sliders sometimes ride of the back of Soft Shell Turtles

Which kind of makes me wonder if the Rise Team might have possibly decided to give Leo a habit of leaning on others sometimes as a sort of reference to how Red Eared Sliders sometimes ride on the backs of other Turtles
