The jury found Diana guilty. He received a $3,000 fine, was ordered to stay away from minors and given three years’ probation – one of the conditions of which was that he was not allowed to draw. He did anyway: “I was told the police could make unannounced visits at any time, without a warrant, to see if I was drawing cartoons. I used to hide paintings in the trunk of my car and get them out at 2am to work on, when I was hoping the police might have better things to do.
It was the Mike Diana case that really made me decide which side I was on, when it came to free expression for artists. The article, on Mike Diana and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, is an excellent one.

What do you think of the whole David Goyer She-Hulk and Martian Manhunter thing?
Here’s what I think, and just so everyone is clear I don’t know David, I’ve never met him, I had absolutely no dog in this fight.
I will answer your question with a question: how come professional writers are not allowed to spew silly nerd nonsense but everyone else is?
every day I open my tumbler ask box to so many questions and so many comments that are about a range of subjects that are equally ridiculous or even more ridiculous to the point of making no logical sense whatsoever. :-)
it was comic book day today and many of you went to the store and many of you engaged in silliness of equal or greater value.

My question is why comic book professionals seem to spout so much unprofessional nonsense with no repercussions.
You have Remender telling people to drown in hobo piss on twitter and Simon Furman telling people criticizing a female writer and telling people not to buy her book because it retconned his writing slightly but I have no doubt IDW will still hire him to write more stuff.
You can say stupid shit but people can and will criticize it and wonder why the hell people hire someone who conducts themselves that way.
For somebody who likes to make milquetoast statements about inclusiveness and why can’t we all just get along Bendis is always loathe to actually acknowledge when somebody fucks up.
First of all, it’s called professionalism.
Secondly where do you think the toxic environment that the comics industry is notorious for comes from? It comes from people like Goyer spouting off heinously misogynist shit and then other professionals like you ignoring it.
Because surprise! People who believe things like what he believes about Jen Walters don’t create things that are friendly to women! Or work environments that are friendly to women! Or other people who aren’t exactly like him
