Illustrator of the Ancient Mediterranean 🏺 My Art

And Libra finishes off the set ♎⚖️ The goddess Tyche, also know as Justitia to the Romans, represents Libra with her golden scales. You've probably seen her in modern times as Lady Justice! I'm so excited to be finished this series! Ill be posting a full compilation soon, so keep an eye out ;) ✨Prints and merch: [X] This Greek myth astrology series features each sign represented by a character or event in mythology! See my page for the rest of the signs :)

Hello Aquarius! ♒🏺 Zeus' cupbearer Ganymede represents this innovative sign, pouring into a kylix 🌊 In Greek myth, Zeus abducted Ganymede in the form of an eagle, hence the design on the vessel he carries. ✨Prints and merch [X] This Greek myth astrology series features each sign represented by a character or event in mythology (whether canonically related to the sign or not - I'm vibing)!

July's illustration is named 'Sappho's Sparrows' 👭🐦‍⬛🌿 Rereading the Ode to Aphrodite, the description of Aphrodite's chariot being pulled by sparrows made this scene spring to mind; Sappho performing a love poem to her gf with sparrows flying from the lyre towards her like musical notes. Patrons in July will be receiving digital downloads, wallpapers, prints, and stickers of this illustration  🧡 Patreon.com/flaroh

Hello Virgo! ♍👩‍🌾 To represent this observant sign I've depicted a fun syncretism of Persephone and Demeter🧡 Virgo is attributed to several deities, but most often Persephone and Demeter. I couldn't choose between the two so I decided to great an Eleusinian combination of the two, by illustrating an archaic kore (a maiden statue often attributed to Persephone), holding sheaves of wheat, which is often how Demeter is depicted 🌿 ✨Prints and merch [X] This Greek myth astrology series features each sign represented by a character or event in mythology (whether canonically related to the sign or not - I'm vibing). I've finished the earth,  water, and fire signs so now it's air signs left!

Adding the goddess Fortuna to my Roman Gods series!🌾🌐🌿

While Fortuna's festival was last month (I'm running behind sorry!), today is also the anniversary of the temple to one of my favourite iterations of her; Fortuna Muliebris, or Fortuna of women's luck✨

This temple was built on the Via Latinia in honour of the women who stopped the exiled general Coriolanus' march on Rome. According to Livy and Dionysus of Halicarnassus, his own mother Veturia and wife Volumnia led a team of women to his camp and gave an impassioned speech infront of everyone that convinced him to give up his seige.

Capricorn is here ♑🐐

For this piece the mythological being Aegipan is representing this pragmatic sign🧡

Sometimes distinct from, and other times assimilated with the god Pan, Aegipan was represented either as a faun (half goat half man) or half goat half fish. The latter is usually associated with when the gods fled the monster Typhoeus in a river (Like Aphrodite and Cupid in my Pisces illiustration!)

Cupid and Psyche for June 🌿🩷🦋

Here is Cupid and Psyche relaxing in nature and being in love🧡 I've not drawn these two before, but they've always had a special spot in my heart ever since I first heard their myth as a child. It's one of the few Greek myths that actually has a happy ending!

Patrons in June will be receiving digital downloads, wallpapers, prints, and stickers of this illustration 🧡 Patreon.com/flaroh

Io Vestalia everyone!🔥🌿🫓 Heres my illustration of the temple to Vesta in the Roman Forum with worshippers 🏛️ i just love how colourful ancient Rome was! During the Vestalia celebrations women could enter the Temple of Vesta (barefoot) to leave her offerings. Donkeys, sacred to the goddess, were also decorated with flowers and mini loaves of bread (so cute!). Overall the goddess was celebrated to ensure Rome's own prosperity. I've chosen to depict the Severan reconstruction of the temple, built under Julia Domna after a devastating fire. This new build was significantly different from it's predecessor, which was supposedly destroyed completely in the fire. While Ovid (100 years before) stated that the temple had /no/ statue inside, I've seen that Domna's coins depicting her new temple show a figure of Vesta inside. While this could be an allegorical image, the figure is seated, which makes me believe it depicts an actual statue.

It's the first day of Gemini szn!♊👬

For this piece Castor and Pollux are representing the communicative twins🗣️ I am also following a sky theme for the air signs, with Gemini having the aurora borealis🌌 I was a lil worried that this wouldn't work but I'm so pleased with the results!

Also known as the Dioscuri, the twins Castor and Pollux were born to Leda of two different fathers (the former Tyndareus king of Sparta, and the latter Zeus), which is a common quirky theme in Greek myth. They went around the ancient world performing the usual "heroic" deeds, including rescuing their half-sister Hellen after the Trojan war. Since Pollux had divinity through Zeus, he asked his father to share it with Castor and then they were transformed into the Gemini constellation🌌
