Ok, I just received $60 from Kaiser because I paid for wound care visits that were supposed to be free. Those visits were over 3 years ago. But I had just reblogged a similar post :)
Okay fuck so for like the entire first part I thought this person was like... Using one of those 3d pens to replace lace in this curtain somehow
Then the next couple I was like "wait are they just like painting the curtains a different color? Were the lace threads just black or something on that other one?"
Then finally it clicked and I freaked the fuck out

For the first couple seconds I was like “why are they painting lace a strand at a time? Is there a stain in that spot they’re trying to cover up and this is a very specific life hack video?” but no. It is PAINTING LACE on a canvas.
Ik people are comparing Gwen and Spiderbyte and saying "Spiderbyte is way better for Miles bc she didn't even know him yet helped him out!"
But did all of us just completely ignore the insanely complex and deep dive we had into Gwen's character
She is newly damaged (AGAIN), traumatized, imperfect, and in crisis for nearly the entire film while we know nothing about Spiderbyte besides her helping Miles
She (a teenager) had no one to rely on until the Spider organization took her in bc her dad abandoned her after knowing he is the only person she has left
So ofc she's going to listen to their teachings with little back sass; she sees these people as the ONLY people who are (seemingly) on her side and truly believe they are only looking out for others like Spider heroes should- she is completely isolated from outside figures until talking to Miles again
She is hard coping with trying to have both Miles and her only place of comfort in her life which she figures out, in the most gut wrenching way, is just not possible
By the end she is compelled to follow Miles into his dimension before going into other multiple dimensions to gather the best team to help him and risk all of reality for him
And learns after joining then getting kicked out of the organization that losing her dad did not in fact shape her into being a better hero, but making up with him did
Like these ups and downs between the two are so complex and makes their relationship much more compelling imo
Idk man I get annoyed when people do the comparing girls for romance thing lol
Not saying Spiderbyte is bad at all like she is a great person for throwing away the canon bs bc she sees an innocent person that needs help in front of her
But throwing away everything about Gwen for "which girl is better for Miles" got me ✋️✋️✋️✋️
Plz give her the credit and sympathy she deserves as a misguided and broken teenager just trying to do good despite all the inner turmoil she's facing

I love love love how its the older generations rationalizing their trauma as a necessity in becoming a great hero while the new generation of Spider heroes are saying "no, you do not get to irreversibly damage me for me to do great things"
It's actually a great mirror to how divided the generations are in real life in terms of mental health with older gens ignoring trauma they've been through as some kind of badge of honor, while younger gens don't buy into the "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" mentality- it still hurts you
Gwen is part of the new generation that is at first buying into that older mentality before taking Miles as inspiration to do her own thing and finally catch up with her peers
Peter is part of that older generation that after meeting Miles and having his own kid realizes it shouldn't be that way and doesn't have to be

They’re using their platform to their advantage. They’re both white, of an older generation, and famous enough to be recognized. They’re holding their generation accountable and making an effort to show up and enforce change. This isn’t them advertising a TV show or some bs, they’re there to help

Jane Fonda’s activism did, in fact, hurt her career, and she’s out there risking it all again. She wasn’t just involved in protest since the Vietnam war (tho that is what did her career the most damage, some lawmakers were actually calling for her to be tried for treason over it)
She was already under government surveillance before that for her support of the Black Panthers and her show of solidarity with two separate first nations re-occupations (Fort Lawton and Alcatraz).
She’s not being silly or doing a bit or pulling a PR stunt. She’s just not letting the cops scare her. Because this is far from her first rodeo.

i’m gonna make a movie where two normal ladies fall in love. everything’s chill, no age gap, they’re both out of the closet, their families love them, everything’s fine. the catch is that one lady has a cat and the other lady never figured out what the cat’s name was cause the Owner Lesbian ALWAYS uses a dumb nickname and now it’s been three years and they’re getting married and it’s too late to just ask
It’s garnering more and more urgency because the cat’s importance is growing (the cat is going to be the ring bearer, oh no!)
The First Lady asks her fiancé if they should get a fancy collar with the cats name for the wedding and her fiancé throws her arms around her and says “great, would you go do that tomorrow?”
the longer i think about it the more that sounds like a valid conflict to base an entire movie around and the fewer problems i could think of that cant have a solid writing solution available

This is so good. Plus it’s not like you can try out likely names and see if the cat responds, like a dog might. It’s a cat. It’s just gonna sit and squint unblinkingly at you regardless, no matter how many names you try.

no no no. the cat doesn’t have a name, the cat owner never decided on one so she just goes with various silly nicknames. but since her fiancée acts like she is aware of the cat’s name, the cat owner assumes the fiancée mistook one of the nicknames for the actual name. but she doesn’t know which! so the cat owner doesn’t know what the supposed cat name is either, and relies on the fiancée revealing it at some point, but it never comes and she’s getting agitated too because she doesn’t want to admit she never named her cat

no idea if this is true, but it feels true
I heard an interview, can’t remember the psychologist, but he was explaining this idea and encouraging people to stop and take a deep breath and literally drink in small moments like you’re a dryass plant when something is ever satisfactory, positive, mildly successful, randomly joyful so your brain can code and integrate that experience because our natural lizard brain will quickly tape over it with mostly unnecessary negative survival shit. Sounds dumb and dorky but sometimes I remember this when I’m feeling good about a moment because our cave brains are still catching up with modern life without sabertooths. I like that it’s not just a pollyanna gosh just be more positive thing but more of a legit brain wiring phenomenon can be gradually hacked through small behavioral changes.
Another super important one: Take the time to tell yourself, when something you did or bought or decided works out “That was a good decision and I’m glad I made it! Go me!”
Seriously, it can have a huge impact. suddenly you go from remembering nothing but bad decisions to adding in a series of Excellent Choices You Feel Good About, and it makes things so much better.
