Check out my art blog :o artinthepiratehat.tumblr.com ~~~~ Shocking fact: not really a fish. Just a 25-year-old girl from Poland dressed up as a pirate.

reblog if your name isn't Amanda.

2,121,566 people are not Amanda and counting!

We’ll find you Amanda.

this has almost 11 million notes what is this

I’ve never seen this post once in 10 years on this site

I’ve never even heard of this before tho??? Wtf??????????

oh my god, I didn’t think there were any surviving versions of this post left

For those who weren’t around in the Deep Lore times, this is one of the relics of the editable post era. This post has THE SINGLE HIGHEST NOTES of ANY post on this site, bar none, but with more than a dozen variations. Every single post you’ve ever seen with more than 3 million notes has been a different version of this one.

This is the “Dean’s Gym Shorts” post. This is the Flubber post. This is the original “Reblog if you support gay people” post. it was ALL of them. before half the site got nuked, it had even more notes than it has now - at one point, well over 15 million, and that was years ago.

This, with no exaggeration, is the ONE TRUE heritage post

This website truly is bizarre

"Stede needs to dress in his old clothes"

"No Stede needs to keep it simple and wear plain clothes"

All of the above are incorrect, Stede needs to wear a series of shirts that all inexplicably get torn open no matter how hard he tries to keep them on. The shirt we see him wearing in the finale is torn up ten minutes into season 2, and after weeks of pirating, they find an untorn shirt, and Stede gratefully puts it on. Two minutes later, it's torn again, and he looks around for another shirt but finds none.

Cut to a montage over the course of weeks of Stede finding new shirts and immediately getting them torn in increasingly dramatic ways.

When he finally reaches Ed, he's given up on wearing shirts.

Ed scoffs and goes "you think you'll just seduce me by showing up here without a shirt?"

Stede looks down, he forgot he wasn't wearing one because hes so used to it now.

"Not at all! I mean, if it sways you-"

"It doesn't."

"Right, of course. Well, the truth is I can't seem to keep a shirt on without it being destroyed in some way. So, here I am."

"That's ridiculous. Can someone get him a fucking shirt?"

Frenchie runs off and grabs one and tosses it to Stede. Stede looks at Ed.

"Are you sure you don't care what happens to this shirt?"

"Nothings going to happen to it."

"Edward, I'm telling you something will."

"Its not mine, so I don't give a fuck. Besides, nothing will happen."

Stede shrugs.

"If you insist."

He pulls it over his head and comically the shirt just seems to fall apart at every seam when its just barely over his head, falling to his feet in a pile of fabric, only one scrap hanging barely over his shoulder.

Ed blinks.

"Oh."

"Yes, exactly. It's a curse, really."

Ed's eyes trail down Stedes torso.

"Mm, yeah, totally. Curse."

thinking about how ed says he doesn’t have any friends and what he means by that and what it shows us about what he values in a relationship

because ed has had relationships that many people would consider friendship. calico jack is our primary example of that. they go way back, they’re excited to see each other, they quickly fall into old habits of destructive unhinged partying. ed even loudly and fondly tells a group of people about how jack saved his life

and then with izzy. i personally read their relationship as being, at best, a “casual work friend who you don’t know very well outside of your job” situation. but a first mate is someone who the captain is vulnerable to, more so than any other crew member. a pirate captain has to trust his first mate to not betray him and to have his back during raids. to a certain degree, ed has had to trust izzy with his life. and he probably did up until the last few episodes of the show.

and yet, from the beginning of the show, ed is lonely. he feels bored. he feels like he’s treading water, waiting to drown. he’s craving a connection he’s never had before, a true friendship where he can be fully himself and be emotionally vulnerable and not have people take advantage of that vulnerability. and by not showing us otherwise, the story tell us that this is something that he (and stede) has never had before the start of the show.

ed values being able to trust people emotionally more than he values being able to trust them, like, physically. which is so interesting to me, because in soooo many stories it’s the “i would fight for you” and “i would lay down my life for you” and “i would do anything to save your life” stuff that’s portrayed as being the deepest form of intimacy and most impactful display of love. and i’d probably expect to see that be the case for a story like this one, where violence and death is a constant risk.

but the writing in ofmd suggests that the deepest form of intimacy doesn’t come from violence and sacrifice. in ofmd, the deepest form of intimacy is emotional vulnerability and open communication. the most impactful display of love is acceptance and respect. and letting important things go unsaid is not romantic or aspirational, it’s a tragedy that leads to miscommunication and heartbreak.

i love paintings that look as if they have ghosts in them

Avatar

this painting by andrew wyeth has got SO many ghosts in it. most andrew wyeth paintings have ghosts in, but this is off the scale!

this painting by dragan bibin has only one ghost as far as i can tell, but it's a really scary ghost (the dog thinks so too)

this painting by meraud guevara looks very peaceful, but unfortunately it has a ghost in it. i can't tell you where, but it does

you might think you can see the ghosts in this dorothea tanning painting, but you're wrong. the little girls are just ordinary girls. the actual ghost is behind one of those doors.

marvin cone. for fucks sake just look at it
