... the use of grindstones in minecraft to remove enchantments from weapons implies that enchantments are things you have to. grind off. like, physical things that can be removed without taking away from the actual item itself

can we just draw armour now as if it's weird lapis smudges on armour and depending on how much of an idiot the creator of the armour is it'll either be really finely crafted lapis engravings or if fuckin tommy made it it's just half smudged in blue shit

Ok but if it works it works, right? Like. Tommy's armor engraving may be an insult to XD himself but it fucking works just as well as Technos perfectly detailed work that took him 3x the time and I'm sure Techno and everyone else absolutely hates that.

And I'm sure that's exactly why Tommy doesn't practice making it look better. Pissing your enemy off with your sloppy handwork doing the same job as their finely hones craft is probably like half the battle.

I'm still curious about the curse enchantments, since putting a curse on an item differs from normal enchantments. Like you can't grindstone Curse of Binding off, and it's impossible to get via enchanting table, but you can apply it via books and items you get from fishing them up, or looting them from chests, and the curse breaks when the item is literally broken. I have questions (mostly for my AU).

I'd say curses are more than just engravings, the magic of them seeps into the item itself and the engraving can seem as if it goes through the item, while never appearing on the other side

Yeah, I talked to someone in my dms about this earlier, curses are definitely engravings or etchings, those are hard to polish/remove from metal. I'd imagine regular enchantments are like the intaglio process of printmaking, where the markings are scratched shallowly into the metal, and are more easily removed with a grindstone. Then a lapis ink is rubbed into the linework, and left to dry.

Know what I’m salty about?

In all my art classes, I was never taught HOW to use the various tools of art.

Like yes, form, and shape and space and color theory and figure drawing is important, but so is KNOWING what different tools do.

I’m 29 and I JUST learned this past month that India Ink is fucking waterproof when it dries. Why is this important? Because I can line something in India Ink and then go over it with watercolors. And that has CHANGED the ENTIRE way I art and the ease I can create with.

tldr: Art Teachers: teach your students what different tools do. PLEASE.

oh man your teachers did not do there jobs!

-Yo painters, use pencil if u must underdraw beneath an oil painting, the lead is archival but ideally you should be doing underdrawings in a muted earth tones (siennas, umbers, ochres or earth green) with some titanium white added to it. (The white nearly matches the canvas and earth tones naturally blend with all colors on top unless u do super thin glaze washes).

-Trying to make a natural looking warm black? Don’t use black straight from tube, Mix alizarin crimson and viridan. add raw umber to adjust for light depth.

-If your into mixed media ALWAYS use acrylic first and oil on top (the gesso on primed canvas is acrylic based and oil sits on top of it great). NEVER put acrylic paint on top of oil, the acrylic will crackle/decompose and fall apart/off the canvas.

-India ink is permanent and if your using ink from a jar it should say it’s permanence. professional art grade pens usually have there permanace listed either on the pen or the companies website.

-Red cinnabar is poisonous, DO NOT EAT IT, no matter how much like fruit loops it smells.

-Translucent and transparent are NOT the same. translucent is *shiny* and a cloudier color, ideal for mixing usually ordor making vibrant colors like for eyes, cars, etc. Transparent is matte and usually a 50% transparency from an opaque color.

-ALWAYS DO A TEST SWATCH OF ANY NEW MATERIAL.

-any paint made with “true alizarin crimson” “red lake” and “chrome yellow” pigment is a fugitive paint. Fugitive means the pigment fades dramatically and disappears over time, (usually 5 to 15 years) lots of van goghs paintings have this problem. be very careful with these pigments. Alizarin crimson especially smells extremely sweet and like fruit loops or fruit loops, don’t eat it.

-gauche is a mix of watercolor and ink, proceed with caution as this material can be an asshole.

-Watercolor can be made darker/thicker by letting it dry slightly in cake form or in liquid form and can be dry brushed if u get the timing down.

-Paint liquid rubber or lay down thin pieces of painters tape on edges in watercolor paintings to Prevent bleeding between lines if u need super sharp edges.

-always tape down the entire paper edges when u paint with watercolor to a board to prevent the paper from curling as it dries.

-add salt directly into wet watercolor paintings to absorb pigment and make shit look like space.

-Always paint in well ventilated areas and avoid getting lots of paint on your hands. lots of paint is made with heavy metals and can cause cancer.

-natural materials aren’t always safe, especially

-Ones u collect yourself, do your research before grinding, burning, sanding these things especially indoors.

-use NATURAL bristles on your brushes with oil paint and SYNTHETIC bristles on your brushes for acrylic and watercolor. synthetic bristles literally break off into oil paint and stick into your painting, and natural bristles can’t handle the weight of acrylic paint and rip into 15 directions. Use hard boar bristle for the underdrawing/underpainting of an oil painting as it will force the paint into the canvas pours more effectively cause it’s stronger, use softer bristles for outer layers of oil painting and blending, boar will pierce outer layers and is to hard for anything but the first layer. can’t tell what u have? clean it up and brush it on your face, softer it is the better it is as doing outer layers of color.

-if you have a decent painters’ tape, you can prewet your watercolor paper, tape it to a surface & weight it down with some books to press it flat while it’s wet and help keep it from buckling later once dry, this is especially useful because for some reason, watercolor block is half again as expensive or more than a comparable sized pad or large sheets to cut down, even by the same brand

-natural sable is good for watercolor if you can afford it, i have two smaller brushes i shelled out for to try it, and while i probably didn’t treat the finer point one right, the other one is a miracle i’ve had for nearly 20 years.

-chinese calligraphy brush sets are fantastic for large work and washes and way, way cheaper most times than standard brushes, and it doesn’t seem to matter how cheap they are, either. they may shed a little, but they do a really good job holding and distributing water.

I rewatched Lord of the Rings the other day and you know what I really appreciate?

The men are so tender.

They cry, and kiss each other’s foreheads, and hug, and call each other ‘my friend’ and ‘my dear’; they’re respectful to women and faithful to their partners; they have banter without being creepy and sleazy, and literally none of that stops them from being considered “manly”.

Idea #2: Todoroki Touya Died Due to a Quirk Related Accident

This is absolutely not a-never-before-seen idea. Ever since the below image was revealed, people (including myself) have been speculating things related to what I’m going to talk about in this post. That being said, since I want to outline all ideas I think are plausible, I’m going to write a summary of my take on it. You can read my first idea here, although the topic is a little sensitive. 

Like last time, I’ll bullet point important details about Touya and Dabi that relate to this theory- They’re different than the points in Idea #1. ALSO, I’m going to reference the below photo a lot. 

For length, the rest the will be under the cut. 

This theory assumes that Touya is the smallest son and Natsuo is the middle son in the above photo.

Background Summary

Idea #2: Touya Died Due to a Quirk Related Accident

In this scenerio, they probably think Touya died when in reality, he survived

I think that in terms of this theory, it is most likely that Touya, who was deemed the weakest Todoroki, attempted to prove himself via using his quirk and it went out of control. That, or it was purely an accident. In either instance, his quirk was too powerful for his weak body. 

My issues with this theory are basically the same as my issues with Idea #1- Shouto doesn’t seem to pay much attention to the mention of Touya. It doesn’t look like Shouto holds Endeavor accountable for whatever happened, unlike his feelings towards his mother. If Touya was dead, would we get a bigger response from Shouto? Would Shouto blame Endeavor for it? Why wouldn’t he? Some possible explanations (mostly the same as Idea #1)…

This got very long, I hope it was understandable! I plan on posting more ideas in the future, since I have a handful more.

Sadly, no; I got called a “Skype promoting lies” last week for posting about how my congregation made support for Black Lives Matter an important component of our Rosh Hashanah services. And make no mistake—these white supremacists specifically chose “Skype” to be their word for Jews because of its linguistic similarity to “Kike.” The code words are a new but very real thing.

The fact that these scum sucking fuckers chose, of all the runes, Algiz…which stands for protection from harm…as one of the ones they specifically use…fills me with seething rage.

I just saw this on Reddit today and I wanted to share it here.

When you’re a parent, you have to realize that the child you brought into this world is going to be their own person and you’ll have to start getting into things you may not understand and have ZERO interest in.

However, you damn well better act like you are.

I can still remember the feeling as a kid getting Pokemon Red and it being something I loved so much, so I wanted to share that with my mom. I wanted to show her my team, tell her about the gym leaders I took down, and she just took a glance at the Game Boy color and went “mmhhhmm”.

She gave zero shits when I beat Banjo-Kazooie, a game which was INCREDIBLY hard for grade school me and you can make me have war flashbacks if you so much as say “Rusty Bucket Bay”.

My town in Animal Crossing? Catching rare fish? Who cares?

I liked a cartoon series so much that I wrote little stories about it? “No, I don’t want to read it.”

This type of stuff matters to kids so damn much and she’ll never realize how much it hurt our relationship. It might not seem like a big deal she never sat down and watched me play something like Luigi’s Mansion, but that’s how kids try and bond with their parents.

After constantly being shot down they’ll eventually stop talking to you entirely. 

If you don’t listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won’t tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.

The pet store I worked at had a pen with rabbits near the front door. On every side of the pen were huge signs saying “You can pet me, but don’t pick me up!” One day two absolutely huge guys came in and one immediately reaches into the pen to grab a rabbit. Before i could say anything his friend grabbed his arm and asked him “did you see the sign?” He said “yeah! it says that you can pick them up but don’t pet them!” Then he went quiet for a moment and softly said “I didn’t read it right did I?” And his friend just puts his arm on his shoulder and said “its ok, i know you’ve got that thing where words get mixed up. Let just pet these cute lil shits” And I still haven’t gotten over that interaction.

I was walking my dog through Boston bc he likes the likes car rides. He’s a little thing tbh we call him short and long. So this huge scary man with a full beard approaches me like “hey can my buddy and I pet your dog? He gets nervous around dogs but your’s is so small I think it’s a good place to start.” Ofc I was like “yes he’s very friendly!” So this guy brings his equally big friend over and they sit on the floor while this man looks terrified of my tiny dog so big man number one asks “can I pick him up?” And i say yes so he picks him up and puts him on man number two’s lap and man number two is abt to freak out and his friend straight up just goes “hey man, it’s okay just relax I’d never let anything hurt you. He’s a good boy.” I’ll never forget it ever bc I know that man looked at me (5'3 , glasses, probably wearing a sweater vest) and my dog (kinda goofy looking little thing) and was like ‘ah yes the two least intimidating living things I’ve seen in Boston all day he’ll feel relaxed around them’ and went out of his way to help his friend. It makes me so happy

one time my parents and I were driving through West Virginia on a road trip and our car broke down

now, for my non-American followers, West Virginia is where District 13 is in the Hunger Games series. West Virginia is the heart of Appalachia, where every scary hillbilly™ movie like Deliverance is set. West Virginia is actually mostly full of normal people, of course; my mom’s family is from there. but I mention the stereotypes for reasons that will become clear later

we stayed overnight in a very nice little town and went to the mechanic’s shop to pick up our car the next day. the mechanic’s shop made all those stereotypes come rushing back: a dingy, greasy place down a dirt road, with loud country music blaring and swimsuit model calendars on the wall

my mom and I stood outside a bit nervously as Dad went in to pay for the repairs and bring the car out. suddenly, two mechanics approached us. the stereotypes were now screaming in my mind, because one of these guys was wiry and dirty and heavily tattooed and the other was massive and dirty and heavily tattooed and I was starting to think that I should run right about now

“excuse me,” said the wiry guy, “would y’all folks be interested in a free kitten?”

while I was still trying to make my voice work, my mom politely replied that we were on the road and couldn’t take an animal with us. the men led us over to a corner of the shop where a bunch of equally tough-looking mechanics were huddled around a cardboard box. the top was open and inside, on a carefully-placed blanket lining, sat four tiny kittens

they were meowing or sniffing at a little bowl of milk, and the mechanics were cooing and gushing over them. occasionally, one man would venture to stroke their furry little heads with a single, gentle finger

“I heard something hissing when I went out this morning; looked down and thought a snake done bit me!” the first man explained. and that was when I learned that stereotypes are fucking stupid
