One single republican decided to base his vote on a reasonable evaluation of available data and it quite possibly improved thousands of lives. I hope maybe in my lifetime I’ll see an America where that isn’t shocking for a politician to do, and maybe one in which people’s entire well being doesn’t come down to just one extra guy having a shred of decency.
something very charming about “I don’t really know what’s going on here but I don’t think it’s my problem” as a response to the anti-trans hysteria
[Art of a Black knight, shown in profile from the knees up. He is wearing full armor with his shield and helmet strapped to his back. His hair is close-cropped. He’s standing next to a white horse who has their head lowered. The knight looks serious and determined. ]
does anyone have that picture of the mlm couple kissing with a wlw couple kissing on their shoulders I can’t find it
never mind I found it and it’s still adorable
if anyone else wants to see this
May his memory be a blessing.
Willem Arondéus (22 August 1894 – 1 July 1943) was a Dutch artist and author who joined the Dutch anti-Nazi resistance movement during World War II. He participated in the bombing of the Amsterdam public records office to hinder the Nazi German effort to identify Dutch Jews and others wanted by the Gestapo. Arondéus was caught and executed soon after his arrest. Yad Vashem recognized Arondéus as Righteous Among the Nations.
Their attack, which took place on 27 March 1943, was partially successful, and they managed to destroy 800,000 identity cards, and retrieve 600 blank cards and 50,000 guilders. The building was blown up and no one was caught on the night of the attack. However, due to an unknown betrayer, Arondéus was arrested on 1 April 1943. Arondéus refused to give up the rest of his team.
Arondéus was openly gay before the war and defiantly asserted his sexuality before his execution. His final words were:

He was also a pretty great artist
fags are allowed to say dyke and dykes are allowed to say fag in the same way that youre allowed to run up and slap your sibling on the back of the head
I fully agree with the sentiment but also seeing this reblogged onto my dash by my sibling feels like a warning.

Well anyway I now know the Dutch names of several paintings I didn't know existed when I woke up this morning and also that the Rijk Museum in Amsterdam doesn't ship prints to the US but it DOES let me download high res digital scans so now I just have to find a printer in the US.
Also it's amazing how much Dutch I can accidentally parse after 30 minutes of navigating Dutch websites.

reblog this post to fill the person you reblogged from with hope and let them see the better side of things
if you say anything homophobic in June this truck comes out of nowhere and crushes you like that bus crushed Regina George
it’s optimus pride
Reposting all my art to the new sideblog! I did this in my journal for Pride month as a tribute to Keith Haring.
The quote by him says, "Art is for everybody."

My dear lgbt+ kids,
It's June, so it's time for a little history lesson:
You probably know that June is Pride Month, but do you know why this month was choosen? It's because of the Stonewall Riots that happened in June in the year 1969, in a bar called Stonewall Inn in New York (USA).
In the 60s, engaging in "gay behavior" in public (like holding hands, kissing or dancing) was illegal. Violent police raids of gay bars were common.
Especially trans women of color were regularly arrested and subjected to police brutality during those raids. Police officers would also sexually harrass them by taking them to the bathroom to “verify their sex”.
In the early hours of June 28, 1969 there was one of those (homophobic and transphobic) police raids happening in the bar mentioned above.
A police officer hit a woman (Stormé DeLarverie) on the head with a baton after she complained that her handcuffs were too tight. This sparked the crowd to fight back. They threw objects (such as pennies, bottles and stones) at the police, which ultimately led to serveral nights of rioting.
These riots are the event that paved the way for the modern gay rights movement. Within a few months, at least two organizations and three newspapers to promote lgbt+ rights were founded.
One year later, there was the first “Christoper Street Liberation Day” in New York (named after the street where the riots started). Their official chant was: “Say it loud, gay is proud.”
Eight years later, Sweden celebrated the first “Christoper Street Liberation Day”, the first Pride event in Europe. Nowadays, there are Pride Events all over the world.
Of course this is just a short and simplified overview. If you want to deepen your knowledge, there are plenty of ways online to learn more about the history of Pride Month! For example, here is an more in-depth article by history.com
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
it’s a long story and it’s SO embarrassing but macklemore is part of the reason i’m gay now
i grew up in a very conservative christian household. as in like “gay people choose to be that way to spite wholesome christians and corrupt our youth” type of household. i had it ingrained in my brain. it felt bad, some part of me knew it was wrong, but i was still conditioned to believe it.
when the song “same love” by macklemore and ryan lewis came out in the year of our lord 2012, i was in that stage in my life where my radio was on 24/7. not my mother approved christian radio station, but the worldly corrupt top 40 pop songs radio station. because what can i say i was fourteen and i wanted to dance. but whenever that song came on, i had to stop it. because it was wrong.
then one day i was lying on a hammock listening to my zune (it was a fucking zune i’m sorry) when same love came on. i was just sooo relaxed and the sun felt so nice i just couldn’t bring myself to pull it out of my pocket to switch to a different station. so i let it play and it felt nice. i was like wait a minute. gay people real. i can’t change. even if i tried. even if i wanted to. my love my love my love she keeps me warm. etc.
somehow fourteen years of conservative upbringing began to change because of that goddamn song that i heard the entirety of exactly once.
a few years later i joined tumblr, and i was still struggling with shit suuuper ingrained into my head. just real caked in there. and tumblr is a very gay place. and my knee jerk reaction was immediately oh this is bad. i was told not to support this, so i should leave right? but then i remembered blah blah i can’t change even if i tried blah blah my love she keeps me warm. so ok. gay people can’t help but be gay. whatever i guess i can accept that. i’ll stay and see what these gay people have to say.
anyways a lot of shit happened that i don’t need to get into but eventually i realized that not only am i bisexual, but i’m bigender also. i’m gay no matter who i like. and very much an lgbt+ activist. and i got over my years of brainwashing and conditioning and homophobia. and it started because of fucking macklemore.
happy pride month
If it helps you any, the part you're specifically referencing is by Mary Lambert, and she's a much cooler reason to be gay. ;)
Happy Pride, fam!
