Sometime you have to take matters into your own hands! Life is only as hard as you make it. ΑΦΑ Happy to be alive-- Los Angeles

Jorge Ramirez transformed a “small and old” residence in Mexico and built a yoga studio on top of the building, for his wife.

A rough stone spiral staircase twists up beside a tree to lead to the new upper space.

The extension is a distinct white addition placed over the top, to create a yoga studio for himself and his wife to practice. It certainly is large, and has a rooftop terrace.

The rest of the house is accessed from the small open-air space at the front. The original front door leads from here into the original hallway, and then onto a second courtyard.

The new structure was built over the old one, leaving it inside, a respectful envelope for the neocolonial house was designed, I think it’s gorgeous.

In the extension, a small yard is located at the front of the residence. A ceiba tree that grows here is visible from the street, and gives the house its name, Ceiba House.

Glass walls show the yard as you walk thru the house.

A narrow hallway leads past the kitchen to the third, larger courtyard, featuring peeling and cracked walls.

Beautiful kitchen and a table that faces the yard.

Looking into Jorge’s studio.

The Zen style bath.

You can see the old part of the home from the bathroom. Bedrooms run along a new addition on the side.
