LIBRARIAN PRIIIIIIDE
So this comic was something I volunteered to do for @michygeary. I don’t want anyone to start some kind of “flame war” or something over this because I know that can happen with the simplest of things. Anyways, the main idea is that Aces apparently are excluded from LGBT+ things because of…? I don’t know why. I guess because people don’t think they/we get the same discrimination as others? I think we should all just be one big happy family and go get ice-cream. That sounds like my kind of night.
(TBH as I was finishing this I was falling asleep because I’ve been awake since one am because of a storm It’s like seven forty five.)
….anyway, the A is for Asexuality/Aromantics - my non-binary queer ass says y'all belong here and I’ll gladly fight the naysayers
Wonder Woman hits $600+ million World-Wide, Passing Man of Steel
WOW, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel had nearly double the budget as well as an ensemble cast of Hollywood A-List actors that included Russell Crowe, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. It also had a very long post-production to polish the movie. Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, on the other hand, had a cast whose biggest star was only Chris Pine, not known as a box office draw. Patty Jenkins sure did the impossible with a smooth production that practically left no scenes on the chopping block and costing only $150 mil (the lowest budget in the DCEU). With universal acclaim from fans and critics alike, Wonder Woman will surpass Man of Steel easily proclaiming it as DCEU’s best solo movie and one of the greatest superhero origin movies ever. Not only that but Patty Jenkins will be the highest grossing live-action movie by a female director!
It’s in the books! Wonder Woman has pulled in $289 million domestically as of Wednesday and will enter the weekend with a box office total of over $292 million. That will put the film ahead of 2012’s Man of Steel, which left theaters with a total of $291 million (via Forbes), and Wonder Woman is only about to enter its fourth week.
Worldwide the film has also succeeded, already pulling in over $600 million. Man of Steel ended up making $668 million after it left theaters, and Wonder Woman is easily poised to pass it. It won’t the only one in her rearview mirror either, as it could pass Logan ($617 million) by next week.
MEET ME AT THE MONORAIL!
Just a reminder that none of you will ever be as extra as 90s cartoon Storm
…but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try!
I heard that in the next ST movie, Chekov will be in another ship, which is fine because seeing another actor playing him would be too sad. But the other day I started thinking that maybe there should be another character, a new one, because it would be right to do again what Roddenberry did when he added Pavel Chekov to the crew. I mean, back in the 60s, Chevov was way more than a cute kid. It was the middle of the Cold War and he was from Russia, the sworn enemy of the USA at the time. His presence at the bridge was a symbol of peace, of hope.
Since things have changed, this new Chekov never had the same meaning. So maybe they should add someone with that meaning now. I’m not American, I don’t know what country he or she should come from. Maybe from North Korea? Cuba? Iran? Whatever country America hates most now, this new character should be from there. Put an Iranian woman wearing a Starfleet approved hiyab on the bridge and don’t make a single comment about it because it’s the 23th century now and no one gives a shit about these things. Then, she’ll give us the same message that Chekov gave us in 1967: things will get better.
I love this idea.
Let’s make sure this bullshit doesn’t follow us into 2018
These women are heroines. They have superpowers. They save the world on a regular basis. They all have personalities and backstories and they all dedicate their lives to the greater good and ALL you care about it the length of their skirts and the amount of cleavage that is revealed by their clothes.
Who are the mysogynists here again?
These women are constantly running and/or flying, fighting, and going out in the middle of the night when it is cold. They all are in positions where their breast need support and the proper protection from enemies and the elements, along with the rest of their chests. These women are fighting along side men whose suits are drawn to be practical and not sexualize them. Not to mention men are drawn with the correct anatomy, which is less than I can say about these women who are mostly drawn by straight men who have never seen a boob before.
That last one was what this was about. In my search I saw countless other impractical suits and poses, but this was mostly about incorrect anatomy and clothing that showcases that. These women deserve to have their bodies respected to the same degree their male counterparts are. Catwoman was fighting and parts of her suit tore… to expose her breasts. That sort of treatment would never be given to a male hero. Sure, their suits can tear at times, but never in a way to make them “sexier.”
These women do have strong personalities and some indeed have superpowers. The heroes save the day while the villains here are trying to survive the best way they know how. They are all their own person and deserve to be treated as such. This includes not being drawn by men who obviously don’t understand how female anatomy works without sexualizing it.
But, right, because I care about this stuff this makes me the misogynist.
ALSO let me add that it is not fucking hard to draw female superheroes in practical costumes. I am an artist. I am going into comics (partly so I might be able to do something about this) so I know what it is like drawing people in different types of outfits. Their chests are not hard to draw, these guys just don’t know how to draw them because all of their references have been other men drawing female superheroes like the above. Spandex doesn’t work this say, neither does cotton, leather, or wool. No material makes boobs look like balls that are barely on your chest, except for the possibly bad boob job. Nothing against people with breast implants, but as far as I know none of these women have that in their back story.
Want to see female superheroes that have proper anatomy? Here!
And her powers include messing with her anatomy, hence her hand!
These are ladies with full coverage AND their chests are actually realistic with how they are drawn.
Can a hero have huge chests? Yes! Of course. These chests still aren’t the smallest. Not huge, but not tiny. You don’t need a perfectly flat chest to be a hero, but if you have a large chest you still deserve support and to be drawn correctly.
“Hey can women wear practical clothing?”
“YOU’RE THE REAL SEXIST”
