I don't hide the fact that Mapleshade is one of my favorite characters. I think she serves as a cautionary tale of the power grief has... The world pales when its thorns entangle and snare and twist so tightly that even a garden bares no beauty.

In another sense, I also wanted to show the Dark Forest "growing" out of Mapleshade's dying breath. She's enraged and repulsed by it, unaware that the very event that set her down this path will ironically further separate her from gaining any closure.

It's been quite some time since I did one of these, so I hope you like it. I think I've got slightly better at the rendering part but this took me three times as long as previous pieces because of my current work schedule + all the layering it demanded.

This is a hard post to make… my heart is breaking.

I have a hard time asking for help especially for things for myself, but this is help for my little Frigg.

I’ve been working with my vet for over a week to try and get her turned around but she’s not improving. I’ve researched and have reached out to multiple knowledgeable cat friends who have been incredibly supportive and an invaluable source of help. Thank you all, I hope one day I can repay your kindness.

After a week of vet visits, bloodwork, subcutaneous fluids, medications, lots of vomiting, syringe feeding, further elevated white cell counts, her normally 6lb little body has diminished to 4lbs.

Yesterday’s vet visit warranted X-rays and the findings were not favorable for her little GI tract, possibility of an obstruction and a high risk of necrotized bowel.

She doesn’t have much body weight left to to sacrifice and the decision was made for immediate emergency surgery. Which begins at 2pm 8/11/2023

I’m fortunate to have a vet that has a special heart for sphynx and other hairless breeds and the estimate of costs for the procedure is not over the top expensive. I also have a wonderful relationship with the vets at this clinic and they are willing to give me a week from today to pay the bill. This has however hit me at a time where I need some help, especially after a week filled with vet visits and medications… this hurts. I’m embarrassed to be in a position to have to ask, but it is lifesaving for little Frigg.

All summer and fall, beavers gather up branches with the leaves they actually eat, and store it in the deep end of the Pond, where the cold water and limited oxygen keep the leaves fresh all winter, so when it's negative 20 outside, a beaver can take a dip out of it's lodge, grab some refrigerated leaves in the (relatively) warmer water and go back to it's cozy little nap hole while everything else is out there suffering and eating bark or the like.

So it's less "there's a leak in my house" and more "OH SHIT THE FRIDGE!!"

Idk when I was younger, you could just go and go and find exciting new websites full of whatever cool things you wanted to explore. An overabundance of ways to occupy your time online.
