The women that were killed in episodes 1 and 2 both had their throats slit while their partners were frozen.
And now we've seen that Kory's picture in the book was drawn with her throat slit as well.
What if it's foreshadowing for that desperate moment Brenton was talking about? Kory's about to face the same fate as those women and Dick can't get to her because he's also been frozen in place (a power that Mother Mayhem has used on him already)...
