Fantastic Four (2018) #s 1 & 2 had interlocking variant covers Arthur Adams. This began life as a private commission. The full image was later used as a variant for one of the Stan & Jack era omnibus reprints.

Because this is a change in policy from the past, and that sort of thing always causes a certain amount of confusion. Plus, if you’re doing a series like WEB WARRIORS that travels from timeline to timeline, it can become difficult to change the way you were thinking about the designations for those timelines.
