This is my kind of “reblog for the money” post.

Such is it is

So as most of you know I worked at GameStop about ten years. In that time I had some great co workers, some terrible ones, some nice ones, some that weren’t bad but annoying, the whole gambit.

I want to talk a bit about Casey.

Casey and I both worked with my first Store manager, Mitch (greatest boss ever, but that’s a post for another time). She was a middle manager and I was a peon (self proclaimed title). Almost immediately she fell into the role of ‘friend’ for me, and with my social anxiety that’s usually a damn slow process. 

We would talk about anime we liked, stories we would recommend each other. We were both big fans of slenderman vlogs and started a game of leaving operator symbols for each other to find (this spread to other stores and even people who had never heard of slenderman or Mable Hornets were leaving hidden marks).

When the store closed down we went to different ones. A few years later we were back working at the same one, under the worst manager I ever had. Dude didn’t know the business (had transferred from Pizza Hut and went directly to store manger), made multiple mistakes despite Casey and I trying to explain things, and ran things in a pretty skeevy manner, including so stuff that was literally illegal.

I eventually bailed to a different location after getting demoted on a whim at the begining of a shift. If I had stuck it out two more weeks he would have been gone and Casey became store manager. This is something I’ve been a little torn about, because I would have loved continuing working under her, but at my new store I met Rhi who would also become one of my best friends. Hard to say if in hindsight I would have stayed or not

Casey was a great person, but had a lot of shit happen in her life, including multiple bouts with cancer and a jackass of a district manager trying to pressure her into quitting. She never quit. She always came out swinging, always protecting the people working under her, always getting the job done. I don’t know if I would have had a quarter of her strength in the same circumstance.

Casey…Casey passed away last night.

I’m sad and I’m angry, because if anyone deserved a long happy life it was her. And, I dunno, I just want people to know about her. About how wonderful she was. She was a dear dear friend and there aren’t words for how much I’ll miss her.

Truer words could not be spoken! Casey was by all accounts an amazing young woman. I'm sorry that my wife and I met her so late in her life. She seemed like a cool person to chat with and her boyfriend also comes off as an amazing person getting into a relationship with her knowing that it might be on borrowed time. I sensed she might be sick again recently but I didn't know she was terminal. RIP. Don't take time for granted.

A better, more positive Tumblr

Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the heart of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.

Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).  

Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including child pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.

So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.

Every time my extended family gets together in upstate ny, we (the Adults) all get wasted & at least 1 giant Family Scandal comes out…..tonight is that night..

So apparently my aunt cecelia (not really my aunt, just the best friend of my dads cousin, whomst we also call aunt) once married a dude referred to only as Florida Asshole. He was named such because he apparently left my aunt cecelia while she was in the hospital, stole all of their stuff, and fucked off to florida. Aunt cecelia then hired a p.i. to find him, as u do, and went down to florida with my dads cousin (who was going to florida for a work trip, and had no idea Florida Asshole was there). Apparently the p.i. told aunt cecelia which city the guy was in, but hadnt found the exact address yet, so ofc aunt cecelia did what any other able bodied half insane scorned person might. She went to a costume shop, bought a full nun costume, and went door to door under the assumption that she was collecting charity. (She did, in fact, donate everything she collected. This was an important fact to her). At one of the houses, she looked in the window and noticed an awful lot of furniture that used to be hers. So she, obviously, went to a gas station and bought several cans of gasoline, threw a molotov cocktail through the front window, and began pouring gasoline over the rest of the house. At this point, Florida Asshole came outside, recognized his ex wife looking like a renegade nun sent to punish him for his sins, and began beating her. The neighbors, seeing the strange new man beating a nun in his front yard while his house was on fire, did the only sensible thing in this story and called the police. Who promptly arrested Florida Asshole for assaulting a nun. Aunt cecelia did not get arrested, came clean to her best friend, and was immediately sent back to new york with a ticket bought under my other aunt’s name. We don’t know if she still has an arrest warrant out for her in florida, and that’s tonight’s Family Scandal!

At the next family gathering im gonna sit down, unsuspecting, w my bottle of rosé and the scandal is gonna be when my cousin whips out her phone and opens it up to this post and then everyone’s gonna scroll thru my blog and im gonna stick my head in the oven
