thinking about rayk in the infamous season 3 episode 2 crypt scene going "do you find me attractive?" and fraser taking a second before answering "very much so, yes" and ray almost accepting this answer that he clearly likes a lot, before turning back and worriedly verifying "you're not just saying that?" and then fraser hesitates a second and goes "well, i'm not really qualified to judge, ray" which is just. the most fraser thing he could possibly have said. it vaguely implies he could be (or he might think he is) straight while absolutely not saying that in any way, which leaves almost every option open, but it does sound like it's an actual answer, exactly in the way you'd expect from a guy who grew up with his librarian grandmother. it gives off demi/ace vibes. not to mention that it sort of sounds like he might think there's an actual qualification he'd need to get to be allowed to decide whether a man is attractive or not, making it entirely plausible to fill out the background of this situation as benton fraser, gay man, being asked if he thinks a guy is attractive and mentally reasoning that well, he's only ever had any romantic/sexual experience with victoria, so clearly he doesn't have the right stamps in his passport. he can't say, because he doesn't have the requisite two years experience minimum for the position. he's still on his learner's permit. he didn't graduate from Deciding If A Man Is Handsome university, so, sorry ray, but his opinion is that of a layman, not a man who's been laid (by another man). apologies that he couldn't be more helpful.

All this but also: Fraser’s qualifications to answer any given question depend on what the question actually *is*, and as a ??autistic spectrum/frequently autistic-coded person, he’s spectacularly unqualified to tell. Ray: “Do you find me attractive?” --Fraser hesitates, decides the question is meant literally, gives a direct answer. Ray: “You’re not just saying that?” --Fraser hesitates, considers a literal answer (”yes, that’s what I just said, Ray”), then realises the question isn’t meant that way, then stumbles over what it *does* mean, given that the uncomplicated truth doesn’t seem to have worked the first time around, and then realises he’s hesitated too long and the best thing to do is equivocate.

Ray, stop being a knob and just take Fraser’s first answer :)

DUE SOUTH (1994-1999)

I like to think that Ray asked Elaine what was the deal with Vecchio and the Mountie and she said that they spend a lot of time in the closet and Ray took that figurative (aka they are gay) instead of literally.

Avatar

Elaine meant literally, Ray meant symbolically. (Because he tends to say things symbolically. :D)

But, on the other side, the whole closet thing was a symbol in the first two season, of course. 😆

but think about: a hallmark holiday fic with a self-aware rayk who is dragged kicking and screaming through the plot and insisting he will not, he will not, get suckered into staying in this little podunk town for anyone, especially this nutty canuck

Any suggestions for a due South tattoo that's not just people's faces? I can't think of any symbols or anything from the show.

Well I have a few tattoos on my body but I would never have a face, a quote or a name tattooed (ok I have half a skull but it doesn’t count as face). Of course it depends on each person's likes and dislikes. It also depends on where do you want your tattoo done and its size.

The first thing it comes to my mind when I think about Due South symbology is a compass. I know it is not a very original tattoo but you can't deny it reminds you of the show:

There are lots of cool compass tattoo designs and you can always add your own touches and details.

Another tattoo design I'd choose is something Canadian/North related. Not gonna say a maple leaf but some nature like northern woods, trees, wilderness, wolves... Snow flakes symbols can be cool too and the Northern Lights are awesome but very difficult to have it right. If you prefer the city then some Chicago buildings, its skyline...

Mounties and their uniforms another symbol but in my case I wouldn’t get any police related tattoo.

There are lots of quotes related to the show too.

Are you a romantic Fraser/RayK? Then you can get the best ending ever (rainbow included):

It's up to you.

I don't know if I can help because for me tattoos are a personal experience; they can be very symbolic and special but mean something completely different to another person.

Just in case it helps, here’s a list of all the symbols that went into a due South quilt that a friend made for me:

Fraser's half: maps, pirates, frigates, compasses, maple leaves, wolves, red ships, stetsons, smarties, hockey sticks, knots, flames, handwritten letters, fire extinguishers, beavers, pizza, moose, snow, sextants, huskies, handbills.

RayK's half: moose, glasses, green ships, american money, boats, maple syrup, boxing gloves, compasses, the L, turtles, otters, compasses, sextants, Canadian shacks, city streets, campfires, Pontiac GTOs, tents, hockey sticks, pirate treasure, playing cards, chess, city skylines, pizza, lake trout, handcuffs, maps, planes, rubber ducks, yellow submersibles, hockey pucks, mountains, coffee.

(I wanted a Champion logo fabric, but we couldn’t track one down. We also had a long conversation about how/why it had to be Smarties fabric, not M&Ms fabric, and whether we could find *exactly* the right car (we couldn’t but it was close))

god, but I love tumblr. I have whole days where I have to be a Responsible Grown Up With a Job ™ and then I come on here and I’m all THERE ARE MY PEOPLE as we froth and chortle gleefully over our Blorbos and communicate in phrases that are impenetrable to outsiders and examine tiny (1m 31s) snippets of actors we adore with the kind of attention to detail that forensic examiners WISH they could sustain. Keep it up, my lovely friends. I salute you.
