I don't want a romantic partner I want friends who will go dumpster diving with me, I want neighbors who will knock on my door and ask for butter because they forgot to buy some and it's sunday. I want book shelves in public spaces, food banks and shared tool sheds and community gardens. I want to trade home grown tomatoes for a couple of eggs with my neighbor and I want to bring food over to my friends house when I've cooked too much. I want bicycle only streets and I want people to go on spontaneous walks with. I want people to ask me for help when they need it and I want to be able to ask for help in return. I want community as a safety net. I want people to stop focusing on the vague concept of the one, who will Cure All Isolation and Loneliness. I want every single person to be able to find support and comfort around them, regardless of their relationship status.
Whether or not you still want a romantic partner is besides the point by the way. Of course you can want both, I would even expect most people to want both. The point is that society sells us romance as a fix for the lack of community. The point is people saying "you'll find someone someday" instead of saying "let's make an effort now". I don't want a romantic partner to fix a problem that goes much deeper than what they could fix. Also I'm aromantic.
Which is why it’s important to not be mean.
Their cult teaches them that the world is full of scary monster people who hate them for being so good and loved by god. If you swear at them and call them names or get in their face you’re just doing the cults work for it.
I’m not saying you have to listen to their presentation or try to debate them (and really getting into a debate without thoroughly understanding what they’re being taught will just make things worse)… I am just saying to be polite and say no thank you like if they were trying to hand you a flyer for something you don’t care about.
It’s easier for them to see the world outside their bubble as less scary if they see everyday people just going about their business and being as nice to them as you are to everyone else. This goes doubly for anyone who happens to dress modestly, not swear, and not drink or smoke because whatever you believe, they’ll see you as a “good” person who happens to strangely have no interest in their “message”, and that might be enough to get some curious about the possibility of themselves living in the real world.
It’s sometimes hard to be nice to people who seem to represent something you dislike. Just remember these “elders” are sheltered young men, some of which are getting their first real contact with people of other/no faiths.
They are not your enemy. They are victims.
They aren't being sent out to actually convert people, they are being sent out hoping that they will be harassed and treated poorly so they view those outside the cult as dangerous and evil and stick to the safety of the familiar group.
You being mean to some teenager isn't sticking it to anyone, you're doing exactly what their church elders want to happen.

I see it a lot in my students that the ONLY mode they can engage with literature on is one in which they either say it's good because it's "relatable" or it's bad because they "can't relate to it" as well, and I feel like this is a symptom of the same problem. An unwillingness to engage with fiction outside of its ability to be a mirror to your specific worldview and set of morals. But art doesn't exist to give you moral purity badges--it's a mode of expression that produces conversations between artists and readers. And to engage in those converesations on an adult level you need to learn to process the discomfort of flawed human realities productively.
Whats the root issue, tho.

Baby Voa (when they are still in that fluffy phase) do that gecking things cats do when they see something highly interesting, for the same reasons cats do it.
They don't ever lose this ability but as they age they just cease to do it as often until they've stopped completely.
So unless someone came up to them and invoked a conscious effort into doing it they just dont.

What started as a discussion of voa biology ended up with a very serious matter of how they cry between me and my beta last night. And we both agreed and loved the idea of their bioluminescent eyes illuminating their tears. I can’t remember if it was in the discord or in a PDF that Toasty spitballed the concept of Sanga meeting Ash again after she returned from her training. He wanted to hold her hand like old time, but she turned him down (whether the cult had gotten in her mind or what I can’t remember the details), and she heard Ashivon sobbing in his cell. I chomped at the bit to illustrate that! I love this cinnamon roll. I have been requested that I do something light hearted after making our favorite cinnamon roll cry.

Here’s my rough animation for cyclops sequence from Castlevania. I got to storyboard this sequence as well, which was a first for me. Up until then I’d never had that level of control over anything I’d worked on in the animation industry.
Out of everything I did for season one, this is by far what I worked the hardest on. I’m glad I’m finally getting to show it.
Ive just sat here and watched this like 45 times each per square of animation. This is fantastic.
