omgg sunshine reader and her baby bots are an epitome of cuteness ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿฅบ i bet she would refuse to call then any other name than baby bots and watch miguel slowly loosing a battle - he will end up calling them like that too ๐Ÿ˜ญ

"miguel, your baby bots are dancing on the kitchen table." you giggle as you watch them, your boyfriend diligently over the stove.

he's been trying to show you some of the stuff he grew up eating, in an attempt to feeling closer to you and the people he's without.

"nano-bots, mi vida." he taps something on his watch and they all fall flat, no longr animated.

"why'd you kill them?" he turns to you, finding you leaning on the table and poking the nano-bots. "make the baby bots dance again, please."

"they're not toys," he says as he animates them again, watching your smile come back as you watch them dance.

three weeks later, he's swinging through your bedroom window, showing you a new nano-bot.

"look at this new baby bot," he curses after saying it, "nano-bot."

you smile, watching the new bot that's completely mat and a little bigger than the others.

"what's this baby bot do?" miguel shakes his head, falling back on the bed.

"this one just dances," he taps on it twice and as he's said it starts jumping and twirling in his palm, lighting up in blue and green hues. "it's for you."

you pepper kisses on his cheek, "you're a real mush, y'know that?"

he rolls his eyes, but pulls you closer for a proper kiss. "no one will believe you, or your baby bot."

"i thought they were, 'nano-bots'?" you say he word in his stern voice and miguel flushes, cheeks painted a warm rosy colour.

"shut up and kiss me."

Ruby Keeler & Lee Dixon dance on a giant typewriter in Ready, Willing & Able (1937)

So jaded by cgi that I didn't think this was impressive at all until I realised it was all an actual size set

It took me a solid few seconds to realize those type bars swinging back and forth at the top are actually peoples legs

The collective gasp of what had to be atleast 300 people when President Barbie drop the f-bomb

I don't think I ever heard so many people make a same sound in the same moment

Obsessed with Miles absolutely melting while thinking about Gwen and creating art while she's bottling up her feelings for him and violating the drums. They're both experiencing the same feeling, reacting completely differently to it and expressing it through art in different ways. Obsessed with how his montage feels calmer than hers, hers quickly turns agressive especially towards the end.

Gwen is much more aggressive regarding her feelings, but I think thatโ€™s because she never learned to express them without bottling them up first and then letting them explode through her music. Miles is more expressive through his art. Heโ€™s much more sanguine like that, optimistic in the face of a bad situation.

The Barbie movie isn't about girl power. It's not about how women can do everything they set their mind to. It's about how sometimes women are tired and average and that has to be okay too, because you don't have to do everything to be worth anything. (And that this is also true of men.)

as someone who doesnโ€™t live in a western country where there isnโ€™t much of a community amongst movie goers other than marvel movies but still iโ€™ve never seen an entire theatre full of people dress up as the characters but barbie was the first movie ever that i saw everyone and i mean EVERYONE dress up in pink. there were girls and women carrying barbie dolls, they were screaming and laughing throughout the movie and i was so teary eyed by the end because barbie means so much to me and as someone who was shamed for liking it my entire childhood, it fills my heart to see other girls and women embrace it so dearly. and to top it off, the fact that a movie directed by a woman is getting this much recognition and response makes me the happiest girlie ever. i will truly cherish this experience forever <3

Barbie saying I don't feel perfect anymore and how she never has been president or written a book or done something important and that absolutely struck a cord with me that I started tearing up in the movie theater. I felt seen just by that moment of barbie being vulnerable.

โ€œThe Barbie movie is anti-menโ€

ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

This movie acknowledges that men suffer from loneliness, that patriarchy is detrimental to their mental health (Mattel CEO saying heโ€™s tired and just want to be silly goofy with his buddies, which is sooo valid) and that men struggle to figure who they are outside of their gender role and/or relationship.

The Ken song you all love so much literally leads to the Kens setting aside their rivalry to form a brotherhood and start questioning what they really want and who they really are.

This is the most pro-men movie I have ever seen, you guys are just brainwashed and donโ€™t know how to snap out of it

The Barbie movie really said. Yes you will grow up and childhood wonder will vanish. Yes you will grow up and learn to hate yourself, your body, your awkwardness. Yes you will grow up and lose your confidence and certainty and sense of purpose. Yes you will grow up and the world will seem a bleaker, lonelier place every day, and society will seem bleaker and lonelier every day, and you wonโ€™t understand what went wrong in the span of just a few years, what took you from a happy and secure young girl to a sad, uncertain, scared grown woman.

And yet. You will learn to find beauty again. You will find joy in not having a purpose, in building a purpose for yourself. You will find beauty in connection, with the people and the world around you. You will learn to love signs of ageing as proof of a life well lived, of experience and happiness. You will take that little girl by the hand and tell her โ€œI know, this isnโ€™t what you thought it would be, but itโ€™s real. Let me show you how beautiful it can be.โ€

Iโ€™ve seen a lot of people talking about the Barbie movie and about the parts that touched on real-life dynamics, but the most uncomfortably real part to me is something I havenโ€™t seen talked about yet, and itโ€™s when Ken ultimately collapses and Barbie goes to talk to him. And EVERY TIME she tries to support him, he interprets her words as his cue to try and make a move romantically. And every time she gently rejects his advances he collapses wailing and slapping himself to the point that she feels bad. For being honest about not wanting a relationship with him.

โ€œNo, Ken, this isnโ€™t the answer,โ€ was the best line in response to his existential problems and Iโ€™m 100% glad they had both Barbie sticking to it and the other Kens positively supporting Ken without having to dunk on Barbie or call her a bitch for refusing to fake romantic feelings she does not have.

Some things about Allan:

  • Heโ€™s the only one who reacts to the narrator
  • Heโ€™s the only doll (besides the Weird House) who isnโ€™t swayed in some way by Kenโ€™s takeover
  • He also declares himself as โ€œKenโ€™s buddy" (making canon his official box description) which makes his inability to be swayed more interesting
  • He has bendable legs (probably the only reason he tries to jump the fence instead of going around like everyone else)
  • He easily decked a half-dozen construction Kens and could probably singlehandedly win the Ken fight
  • He seems to know more about the real world than most Barbies
  • He knows what NSYNC isย
  • He knows about other Allan copies living in the real world (Iโ€™m trying to figure out if he made this up to convince the humans he can live in the real world, but even if he did, how does he know what NSYNC is???)
  • There are no other Allan models
