@feenyreadscomics

Name is Feeny. This is a sideblog. Main is feenyxblue. mid 20s. Icon is taken from the current run of Daredevil yes that is Foggy Nelson on a bi flag. Header is made by inkforhumanhands, who is graciously letting me use it.

Reading comics is constantly like "Here is one of the most fascinating concepts you've ever seen in a piece of media. No we will not elaborate on it and you will never see it reach its full potential. Here is an interesting, new character. Oh now they're dead/rewritten to be less interesting/trapped in a different version of earth to be only mentioned off hand and never seen again. Here is your favorite legacy character: they're currently being written by a misogynist." And then once in a blue moon there's a comic that blows your tits clean off it's executed so well. But it's a limited run.

Thoughts on the movie making Hobie British?

I haven't read spider-punk's comics (yet), but I guess I'm struggling to even have an opinion on this? I'm not an expert on punk culture but I don't think the British working class is exempt from it in any way, and to me Hobie is the best part of the movie hands down, including character design and voice acting, so I have no complaints about it. Besides, "I hate the AM, I hate the PM" was sooo funny and if Hobie was American we wouldn't have gotten that line, and that would've been so tragic lmao

For a long time I’ve wanted the Batman universe to have a public defender, because that has to be one of the weirdest, most thankless jobs in the world. Sure, Gotham’s public defender works a lot to defend small time, non-violent drug offenders, and maybe Batman will even be a character witness sometimes to support rehabilitation, but you’ve got to also get the guy who set fire to a huge pile of money or the guy who turned to bank robbery to pay for a rare book habit. (The Penguin can probably afford his own lawyers.)

Come to think of it, as a law student, it’s not impossible that Becky Albright could become a public defender…but if I were her, I would stay as far away from Gotham, supervillains, and even criminal law as possible.

Public Defender Albright: “I learned to understand supervillains from my experiences…that they are sad, pathetic little people who really need help.”

Exactly!

going from the reddit star wars fandom to the tumblr star wars fandom is giving me insane whiplash. the upside is that people aren’t bitching about every single imperfect detail in the entire franchise, but the downside is that i’ve seen more fanart of obi wan and commander cody tenderly knowing each other than i have ever wanted to in my life in the last three hours and it has probably fundamentally altered the way i interact with the entire franchise

after the initial shock of being plunged into the icy cold lake of seeing my childhood action figures caressing each others sweaty chests in a gentle, hidden moment after a battle, i’ve been able to get my wits about me and realize that yeah, i’m kinda with it

Hey man why's there so much shit w Miguel O'Hara muttering endearments to a self insert in Spanish. This man is half Irish he's literally too Catholic to function. He's not gonna say sexy things in Spanish, if he tried to be vulnerable for even a moment he'd projectile vomit on the floor

I reject your boring Latin Lover stereotype of Miguel which is a lie made up to conceal the truth: Miguel O'Hara is the type of guy to eat his lunch alone in his car while his coworkers are like "Is he eating his lunch alone in his car"

Like listen he's still built and and hot don't get me wrong and if you wanna engage in your breeding kink I'm not gonna yuck anyone's yum!! But to be clear, this is him

(Thanks @nancyboyy for reminding me about this clip)

That's correct! I'm saying that by being half-Irish and half-Mexican he's unlocking new tiers and shades of Catholicism, imperceptible to all but mantis shrimps and those pain-worshipping masochist demons from Hellraiser

Realizing that the end credits scene was probably Miguel's first attempt to get the Spider Society going is honestly hilarious

people get so confused trying to figure out the Lois/Clark/Superman situation that somehow they come to the conclusion that Clark is cheating on Lois with Superman

Avatar

I mean Lois clearly has nothing to hide, everyone from here to Krypton’s seen Superman fly her with a chaste hand around her waist. but Clark puts an awful lot of effort into making sure no one ever gets a pic of him and Superman together

what is he worried Lois will see

Avatar

people shake their heads sadly every time Superman visits the Daily Planet and then Clark emerges from a closet disheveled and tucking his shirt back into his pants. but if Lois won’t see it there’s nothing they can do

Avatar

When Lois finds out she thinks it’s hilarious, and when someone finally tries to ‘break it to her’, she’s all ready.

“Oh, I know.”

“You… know?”

“Neither of them would ever lie to me.”

“So… *gears frantically spinning* this is like some kind of threesome thing?”

“Oh! No, no, no, absolutely not. *Lois pauses and grins the most lascivious grin she can produce* I just… watch.”

Clark gets a lot of very weird looks that day that he can’t understand at all.

@elidyce no, no, no. don’t hide a shit-stirring bruce and chaotic lois in the tags. this is an important addition, too. just gives that final touch that’s dearly needed to really complete this, y’know?

[Video description: Four videos that have been stitched together; the first three are captioned. One: A lawyer in a suit says smugly, "I sued a 9-year-old kid and won!" Two: A bearded person sits outside and says ironically, "I challenged a nine year old kid to a basketball game and won." Three: A person wearing a yellow bandanna as a sweatband says dramatically, "I challenged a nine year old kid to a bench press competition, and won." Four: A (presumably) nine year old kid walks across a lawn, shaking their head slightly and sounding out of breath as they say, "I had the worst day of my life." End description.]

RIP John Romita Sr, THE Spider-Man Artist

Hey, with all of the Spider-Man discussion flying around lately, I absolutely need to stop and call attention to the fact that John Romita Sr just passed. I can't stress enough that this man was a LEGEND. He was THE Spider-Man artist. He was the most prolific Spider-Man artist ever, he drew all of his iconic looks and character designs, and he just made the character. His art is beautiful. I've spent the last few days rereading the 1970s newspaper comics made by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr and talking for ages about how gorgeous the art is, and hearing that he died just now felt incredibly strange.

He did the most iconic Spidey covers and moments:

But also some really gorgeous other art:

If you have some favorite pieces of art by him, go ahead and add it to the post! Man, this guy was my childhood and probably permanently shaped an area of my brain. We're losing a lot of comic artist legends lately. RIP John Romita.

“Progress Shark” outside the Australian Museum, ahead of Sydney Mardi Gras/World Pride Festival 2023.

More flags should be inflatable sharks

Ok this is making me go insane because. that’s a photoshop. it absolutely is, someone’s edited a progress pride flag onto the shark.

you can see spots where the red is misaligned with the top of the body and even extends slightly beyond it. the lines of the flag don’t conform to the shape of the shark’s body at all. you can see the gills through it as if it’s at like 70% opacity.

but like. the progress pride shark is real and it looks like this:

yknow. cause it’s a flag wrapped around a model shark.

why was this edited????? it’s a real thing but for some reason someone edited a digital flag over it instead of just using a real photo of the real thing??? why????

homophobic/transphobic atsv fans will cling to hobie saying he hates labels as if it's a fucking titanic lifeboat and very conveniently forget the "i thought you hated labels?" "i also hate consistency!" exchange literally 5 minutes later

It's really common for circles in the British queer community to reject labels. It's not that we hate them, they've become far too restricted and people expect certain behaviour from the labels you do identity with.

Also and it's considered taboo elsewhere, but a lot of activists will identify and use slurs such as faggot and tranny to refer to themselves. There's a long term and very punk tradition to own what people call you so it can't hurt you anymore.

So chances are, Hobie hates how restrictive labels can be. But he'd respect those who use them. And labels he WOULD use for himself can't be said before TV watershed.
