My newest character Belza!! A vampiric alchemist who’s definitely has a healthy relationship to her work ⚗️🩸⚰️ I wanted a character to visually have some medieval jester inspo purely as a treat for myself and I thought “who better than a vampire of science” she here she is! I lost all my brush settings before painting this so hopefully it still looks okay. Also, I changed the scythe to a warpick in the end because I think they are neat.😌

if you are writing fanfiction about a character that is canonically romani, do not write about them practicing our culture. do not write about them speaking our language. do not write about them experiencing antiromanyism.
do not write about canonically romani characters as thieves, kidnappers, seductresses, magic-users, or fortune tellers. do not write about them as nonhuman, especially with regards to vampires. if a romani character is canonically a thief, kidnapper, seductress, fortune teller, or vampire, do not write about them at all.
"does that mean people that aren't romani can't write fanfiction about [character] ever???" if you're asking, yes.
nine times out of ten, anything beyond a mention of romani heritage is done disrespectfully. i would always rather read fanfiction about a romani character written respectfully as culturally ambiguous than i would a romani character written explicitly as romani done badly even out of ignorance.
we have been misrepresented so consistently that we do not want you even trying. leave writing about our culture to us, even in fiction. opre romani.

The youtube grandma here is based off this video by a historian who suggested that it could be used as a knitting tool, something that’s considered a fringe theory because the vast majority of what we know about knitting history suggests that it hadn’t been invented yet at this time or place. Just because something could be used to make glove fingers doesn’t mean that it was used to knit gloves, any more than your average hair stick can be used to knit with. What’s more even the youtube grandma acknowledges that it’s not very good at making glove fingers.
Historians have found dodecahedrons without any holes in them, with wax inside (meaning it might be a candle holder), and in coin hoards. There are a lot of theories for what this thing did and a knitting tool is one of the least likely. It’s cool that she saw this and actually tested the theory out, but it doesn’t hold water, so stop turning this into a “historians don’t know what they’re doing” post.

What makes Cecil the Ultimate Tumblr Sexyman is that he’s a perfect illustration of how when presented with just a voice and some descriptions of truly bizarre outfits, tumblr will still overwhelmingly draw a skinny white man in a suit.
