One of the above statements is Problematic and the other is slightly annoying. If we disagree on which is which then working together for a better future is going to get really fucking difficult.

I think this is something young people in particular are confused about. My dad has always had a slightly off color sense of humor, he always feels the need to privately ask me “boy turned girl or girl turned boy?” if I mention a friend and stress said friend’s pronouns, and yet when we had repair work done in the house and the worker was listening to a podcast discussing the evils of transgender people and how to cleanse society, he went out of his way to contact the owner of the business to discuss his disappointment with that worker’s conduct and stress the negative effect that could have had if there had been trans kids in our home.

Our allies will never be perfect. They will never use the perfect language or have the perfect politics. But we have to appreciate those allies and meet them where they are, especially if they are willing to learn.

I know where your coming from, but the US does have a rail network that connects one end to the other, you can get from LA to Boston, it as just not fast and requires transfers, just like a Lisbon to Moscow trip would. But yeah that's proof that the "America is too big for trains" argument is complete bullshit.also yeah building a rail network that is large and accessible would help the poorest members of society, so we should do it, now

Controversial opinion. People are misguided to criticise Bethesda for shipping unfinished games. There is no world in which Skyrim could have been shipped in a completed state. The scope of the game and the limitations of the engine were too large for the era. No other game engine was suitable and creation engine would have taken 5 years to upgrade, and another 5 years to finish Skyrim to the extent that modders have today.

The reach of the game and the number of mechanics which interplay are so vast that given the resources of the era it wouldn’t have been feasible to ship a finished game.

We have far more modern games with highly detailed and complex world like RDR2, but these games are objectively easier to make. They lack the same same level of openness and details as a game like Skyrim. The game mechanics are fixed. The fine details of the world are mostly superficial and have no affect on gameplay or the things the player can do.

Other developers have had over a decade to make their own Skyrims. But nobody has. Nobody has even come close to attempting to replicate the scope of the game. That isn’t due to lack of demand or lack of resources - it’s because it’s too difficult. Other developers aren’t willing to ship unfinished games. To develop anything even close to Skyrim would take too long to be financially viable if you intended to release it in a finished state.

Starfield will be unfinished. This is taking Skyrim’s production problems to the extreme. Even with all the modern resources and money at their disposal the game won’t be finished. And that’s okay. It doesn’t have to be.
