James. Edinburgh, Scotland. A Dúnedain ranger wandering the wilds. I like to ramble on about Tolkien's books and lore. And also ASOIAF but to a lesser extent. Tolkien's race of Men is all I care about and if you don't think they're awesome there's a 100% chance we're not going to be friends. the fellowship.......................................éowyn to my faramirboromir to my faramirsand snake to my oberynmartell/lannister alliancedisappointing daughter tbhpointy eared little shit var ref = (''+document.referrer+''); var w_h = window.screen.width + " x " + window.screen.height; document.write('<script src="http://s1.freehostedscripts.net/ocounter.php?site=ID4304796&e1=ranger&e2=rangers&r=' + ref + '&wh=' + w_h + '"><\/script>');

dude I have a super serious question: who's the hotter dad? Feanor or Denethor? and who's the hotter son, Amrod, Maedhros or Faramir?

What are your thoughts on Children of Húrin?

Avatar

It’a a book where you pause and go, “Okay… nothing can get worse for them after this point.” And yet it does.

In all seriousness: Though both The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion contain deaths of awesome characters and utter destruction, it always ends with a tone of hope that makes you keep reading. I love the Children of Húrin (the book and the family of Húrin alike), Tolkien was really cruel on them. In the end, there was literally nothing to salvage in the life of Túrin and that’s just depressing.

One consolation I have is that, in the most popular (and the latest, before being abandoned) version of Dagor Dagorath, Túrin will end up killing Morgoth, thus avenging the children of Húrin and the entire race of men. So I’m just going to sit here and wait for the Middle-earth apocalypse.

PS. I feel like I should add a literary note: Though it’s very depressing and the story itself makes you facepalm more than a hundred times, it’s really quite reader-friendly compared to Tolkien’s other works, in terms of language.
