Handpump for President

@fantasticwatersupply

40,000 years ago, early humans painted hands on the wall of a cave. This morning, my baby cousin began finger painting. All of recorded history happened between these two paintings of human hands. The Nazca Lines and the Mona Lisa. The first TransAtlantic flight and the first voyage to the Moon. Humanity invented the wheel, the telescope, and the nuclear bomb. We eradicated wild poliovirus types 2 and 3. We discovered radio waves, dinosaurs, and the laws of thermodynamics. Freedom Riders crossed the South. Hippies burned their draft cards. Countless genocides, scientific advancements, migrations, and rebellions. More than a hundred billion humans lived and died between these two paintings—one on a sheet of paper, and one on the inside of a cave. At the dawn of time, ancient humans stretched out their hands. And this morning, a child reached back.

i mean one of them is human

😂😂😂💋

thank you for your input, tumblr user thekinkstress

😏You are most welcome, beloved. 💋

90% of what i play is like, indie games so modern triple A games always jumpscare me with their file sizes. like i'm sorry do you really think i'm downloading a 63.6 fucking gigabyte file so i can romance mindflayers? (yes, but that's not important). i think all games over like, 5 GB in size should have to submit a written essay explaining why they think they deserve to take up that much hard drive space

Relevant meme

Nowadays GTA V takes 100GB of space, the ps3 version took 8.

OK but i fucking hate this so much. It makes it so much harder than it needs to all for the sake of graphics. It's usually *just* graphics. Which is horseshit! I don't want all my games to look the same and be ultra realistic!!! Give me some style some pizzazz some fucking decency and consideration for my hard drive >:( HATE HATE HATE

NO LITERALLY WHAT'S UP WITH THIS

i've seen this a few times and idk why that meme attributes it to western game devs. final fantasy 16 is over 100gb. every triple a fighting game ever (western or not) is easily 80gb.

the largest game i have downloaded atm is not a western game. there's a lot of bad habits exhibited by game devs/publishers that differ by region, file size is not one of them. it would be nice if the option of downloading things like higher res textures separately was more common.

yeah im four years on elfstrogen i can commune with the forest pretty well but my ear points are still coming in. One of my buddys is on tuskosterone for becomi an orc

Still waiting for my doctor to approve a prescription for HRTiefling.

I’ve seen a lot of people make jokes about how Trump is the first president to be charged with a felony. And I mean, he is terrible, but this comes with the implication that Trump is uniquely terrible, and that’s why he’s being charged

But like

Bush lied on national television about Iraq having nukes to justify a brutal invasion that killed thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of civilians

Ronald Reagan illegally sold weapons to a hostile foreign power so he could fund terrorism in Nicaragua. Also, he shut down attempts by his own surgeon general to do something during the AIDS crisis because he wanted gay people to die

Richard Nixon ordered the assassin of a journalist, spied on political opponents, and sabotaged the Vietnam peace talks, doubling the length of the war

And that’s just the domestic stuff! It’s easier to list the presidents who aren’t war criminals than the ones who are

Trump is not being charged because he was the first criminal president. He is charged because he went slightly too far. Our justice system has been fucked for a very long time

He deserves to die in prison. But so do a lot of people

fun fact: basically every mod on r/legaladvice is a cop. if you see a bunch of comments in a row that have been deleted for “offering bad advice”, you can replace “reddit” in the url with “ceddit” to see the same page with all the deleted comments still there, and roughly half the time the “"bad advice”“ is literally anything that suggests that maybe OP shouldn’t trust the cops

in this thread, the OP talks about how a local cop in their small town in Ohio is stalking him and, in particular, his fiancée, to the point that they’re afraid to leave their home.

A lot of the deleted comments are recommending cameras on the house and the cars

a lot more of them are recommending OP file a complaint, and refuse to leave until he gets the forms he needs

and a few are discussing the way small-town cops work with little to no oversight, and that it might be good to talk to someone higher up the chain.

none of these comments needed to be deleted. none of these comments are harmful or malicious in anyway. All of these comments are helping OP learn and exercise his rights as a citizen, and all of them were deleted. What all the comments have in common is that it would cause the cop to face any kind of consequences for behavior that, were a civilian doing it, would be illegal.

Hey! I have a question about salamanders and their association with fire. I know that a connection between the two was written in Pliny the Elder's Natural History, and also in the Talmud, but it seems like there was an association even beforehand. Do you know of any other texts that might shed some more light on the subject?

Not off the top of my head! Usually if Pliny is the source on something that's the earliest you're gonna get. Partially because he made a lot of stuff up.

Oh, this one goes way further back than Pliny. Aristotle has this to say about salamanders:

And the salamander shews that it is possible for some animal substances to exist in the fire, for they say that fire is extinguished when this animal walks over it.
History of Animals, Cresswell translation (1862)

As far as I know this is the oldest reference to salamanders and fire. It got even more convoluted with time. It’s also noteworthy that salamanders were initially very cold animals that extinguished fire, but over time it evolved into lives in fire -> makes fire/is fiery.

Any explanations about why that came to be are only guesses. We will never know for sure if there was a rational explanation and what it was. We are fairly sure, though, that the “salamander skin” described by Marco Polo was asbestos.

Dress history major here! “Salamander skin” was 100% asbestos and we know that because we have extant bits of garments from blacksmiths and other jobs that involve fire made out of asbestos because of its fire retardant properties! So think asbestos gloves and aprons amd sleeves. We also have tiny bits of “fur” made from asbestos that was used as trim on we believe Henry 8’s clothes in some portrature but I could be wrong about the monarch (it’s been a few years since I last read about it).

Man y'all have been going nuts on this post. I'm sitting here kicking my feet learning so much about lizard textile history.

WHY THEY STRIKE: Ke Huy Quan (SAG), 2023 Winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once

Roughly 87% of members earn less than the minimum requirement of $26,000 yearly, making them ineligible for health coverage through the union. The studios' refusal to pay union members a living wage and share their streaming revenues via residuals has made this a difficult ask for performers nationwide. For reference, "in most jobs, that [amount] would be considered a part-time job," according to SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher.

Dashboard Unfucker v3.3.0!

As I first discovered today from the massive surge of people reblogging my previous update posts, the shitty new layout is now universal despite widespread protest, since us existing users are now apparently backseat to a Tumblr's hypothetical endless stream of high-revenue new users who are allergic to using social media sites that don't look like every other site. Well, thankfully at least for the time being, reverting the update via userscript is still as easy as ever!

Version 3.3.0 even fixes the new server-side bug where avatars next to posts disappear, because apparently I spend more time reviewing my commits than a multimillion dollar social media platform.

Installation Guide:

A userscript extension is required to run the script. Currently, the only tested extensions are Tampermonkey and Violentmonkey, but you might have still have luck with a different extension if you already use it.

Once you have the userscript extension installed, simply click this link to open the install page. This also works for updating, but make sure the version listed near the top is up to date, since it only fetches the script from GitHub every so often.

And of course, it's all open-source! Contributions, bug reports, and general insights are all appreciated.

Common troubleshooting info under cut:

Love the contrast between the Americans’ “Apollo” and the Soviets’ “Sputnik.” You got the Americans naming their rocket after a Greek god trying to communicate the grandness and importance of this rocket. And you got the Soviets naming their rocket “fellow traveler.” Like a friend you go on an  adventure with together. This rocket is our little friend lol

And they were gay for each other

And they were gay for each other.
