What do you use for covers for your books? I dabbled in bookbinding once ages ago, and I think I just used the hard back of a sketchpad? Your books are so pretty, I want to make some myself!! (Also, where/how do you get pages printed?)
Hello, and thank you so much! For covers you can use pretty much any stiff, durable cardboard-esque material, but I use Davey board specifically for my bigger books. They come in a range of thicknesses; I tend to use around 0.08 inches. You can also scavenge them from old hardcover books by stripping off the covering material.
When I make mini books, I like to use a thinner cardboard. I've scavenged most of mine from those cardboard inserts you get in cases of water/wine/etc. hahaha. It's probably not archival but it works well enough for my purposes. 😂
I have a printer (okay, technically I have two printers, THIS IS NOT A REQUIREMENT) and print at home, but there are folks who print at libraries, universities, or print shops like Staples or Fed Ex. There are various pros and cons to what type of printer to use, in terms of brand, ink vs toner, color vs black and white. I'm happy to talk more about this if you're interested! But I also highly, highly recommend joining the Renegade Bindery Discord server - there are a ton of folks at all stages of bookbinding and I've had many, many questions answered there! I hope to see you there soon. :D
