The synopsis of Bubblegum Crisis is so unintentionally funny.

The year is 2032, seven years after the Second Great Kanto Earthquake decimated Tokyo. Now, the city is reborn as MegaTokyo, built from the labors of mechanical beasts known as "Boomers."

Under the ever looming Boomer threat, a group of four girls from varying degrees of society banded together

While spending a night out, Linna Yamazaki, a new employee at the Hugh-Geit Corporation (a Genom subsidiary), observes a Boomer that has “gone rogue”, causing destruction and attacking people.

Over the course of the series, the Knight Sabers go after rogue boomers

Death turned to leave the room, but stopped when Hex began to write furiously. He went back and looked at the emerging paper.
+++ Dear Hogfather, For Hogswatch I Want—
OH, NO. YOU CAN’T WRITE LETT—Death paused, and then said, YOU CAN, CAN’T YOU.
+++ Yes. I Am Entitled +++
Death waited until the pen had stopped, and picked up the paper.
BUT YOU ARE A MACHINE. THINGS HAVE NO DESIRES. A DOORKNOB WANTS NOTHING, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A COMPLEX MACHINE.
+++ All Things Strive +++
YOU HAVE A POINT, said Death. He thought of tiny red petals in the black depths, and read to the end of the list.

The absolute silliness making an AI computer believe in Santa, and yet. Tears in my eyes.

Young dwarfs listened to him because he talked about history and destiny and all the other words that always got trotted out to put a gloss on slaughter.

the way this line was delivered was brilliant. drew a good chuckle out of me. it's so raw and relevant especially when discussing topics such as ultranationalism and well, fascism.

Boy and the Heron was SUCH a movie.

I feel like I need to rewatch it like 5 times.

Over all, the vibes are great. I do think a few elements are underdeveloped and there was some missed opportunity to connect them to the theme more. BUT I also feel like a rewatch may help alleviate some of that feeling. There's just so much going on with it.

love the new ghibli protagonist. what a little freak (affectionate). he has NO chill. a kid shoves him at the start of the movie and he instantly tackles them and proceeds to fight his entire class. he bashed his head in with a rock and tried to walk it off. the bird in his garden was doing funny things and he instantly starts making plans to murder it. was ready to beat the shit out of that pelican. i just know if he was allowed to curse he would have called that heron a bitch ass mother fucker. mahito was NOT fucking around.

honestly good for him? he didn't know what he was supposed to be ruling on, so he asked for a demonstration, and the demonstration convinced him it was art. good on him for being willing to accept new data

You couldn’t write this, people would tell you it’s bad writing

Amazing

“IT’S A SWORD, IT’S NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.” My favourite scene from The Hogfather.

This entire scene is the best.

[ID: a comic featuring Discworld’s Death dressed up as the Hogfather (aka Discworld’s Santa.) he’s sat in a chair in a shop while in the foreground, a child gleefully holds up a large sword. the child’s mother yells “You can’t give her that! It’s not safe!”

the comic zooms in on Death as he replies replies “It’s a sword. They’re not meant to be safe.”

the shop manager appears, yelling “She’s a child!” Death says, “It’s educational.” the manager says “What if she cuts herself?”

the comic zooms in on Death even more as he says “That will be an important lesson.”

end ID.]

god. GOD. the underlying anger in everything terry writes really IS apparent in hogfather bc fuck u mean this is how things should be? no the fuck it shouldn't. poor people shouldn't have to be satisfied with what they get, that's just fucking capitalism. i REALLY like that terry decided to use death as projection for what he thinks bc death doesn't know anything and it has to be explained to him and by it being explained to him it shows how fucking stupid those things are. bc ok here's this world where an equivalent of santa ACTUALLY exists and, because it mirrors our world, it's still unjust. santa actually fucking exists in this world and he could give ANYONE ANYTHING bc he's essentially a god and people gave him that power by making him up, BUT because ppl imagined him in a way that poor people don't get shit (like they usually do) and rich people get EVERYTHING they want, he exists like that. whereas death has seen the absolutely WORST of humanity and he STILL thinks that's bullshit and it's not how it should be, it's just how it goes. bc capitalism is always capitalism where there's money and the world will always be fucked up as long as there are oppressor to hold it up. like i just.

It's intentional.

They're weaponizing pregnancy- keeping us under constant threat of forced, unsafe, financially burdensome pregnancy is a great way to roll back lots of women's (and anyone who can get pregnant) ability to be independent and not be trapped in unhealthy relationships for the sake of survival.

I want to be clear- I don't think that every single boots-on-the-ground prolifer is a raging misogynist. I *know* that a lot of them are well meaning, but uninformed people who have not been exposed to or educated on this issue in a nuanced and fact based way.

But the politicians and preachers who stand up on their podiums and push for their laws?

They *resent* women's lib and feminism. They resent the way that divorce laws and birth control and Title IX and increased education and career opportunities for women have led to a culture where it is possible and common for a woman to live a comfortable life without being married, where marriage is a choice among equals rather than an obligation and survival necessity. Where a woman can leave a relationship if she wants to with relative ease. Where being a mother is an option, not a duty. It takes away so much social power that men used to wield as a weapon. It used to be that a man just needed to be a better choice than homelessness and they could get a built in cook and maid and nurse, rather than having to be an actual viable partner. And abortion access is a big part of that.

(And you better believe that they absolutely see forced pregnancy as a way to prove that anyone who CAN get pregnant is obviously a woman and should be treated, poorly, as such. Their transphobia, misogyny, and bioessentialism are deeply entwined.)

I say this often, but the ability to get pregnant makes us a uniquely vulnerable class of people. It opens us up to a lot of potential abuse and risk, physically, financially, in our careers, in our relationships. And the tools we have to control our reproduction, if it happens, when it happens, ways to make it safer when we want it- birth control and abortion and prenatal care and safe c sections, paid parental leave, protections against work discrimination over pregnancy- help us manage and mitigate that.

So of course states with the states with the most horrific anti-abortion laws also have the least support for pregnant people. The *goal* is for people who CAN become pregnant to be increasingly reliant on their husbands (and oh, you better have one of those) by making a potential pregnancy something that is nearly impossible to get through alone with your quality of life in tact.

The cruelty is a feature, not a bug.

Honestly, I want prolifers to read this, then read this again.

Yall don't know. You weren't alive in the pre-Roe world. You don't understand how pregnancy was used as a weapon. How at any time, an act of violence could ripple into 40 weeks of pregnancy and a lifetime of poverty. How a husband's demand for a son could leave you dead on a hospital bed. How a missed period could leave your children without a mother, or their mouths empty of food. How an indiscreet evening with a sweet boy could make you untouchable, could send any plans for your future off the tracks, How you better hope that boy will marry you, because you don't have any better options. And if he does marry you, pray he is kind and patient and stays away from the drink, because he legally owns your child and you have nowhere to run. And if he doesnt want to marry you and doesnt want a bastard with his face running around, you better pray you are faster than him or someone will protect you from the violence might be coming. What's the point of educating a woman when she'll inevitably get pregnant? What's the use in hiring one for anything more than maids work?

We have come so fucking far. We clawed so many rights out of the grip of men and laws written by men to make our futures wider than just housework and mothering. To give ourselves choices. Options. To be more than just one function of our biology. To be able to say that womanhood is not defined by motherhood, to decide when and if and with whom we will be mothers. To know that if a pregnancy fails, we can get help and try again, not just wait to see if the miscarriage ends in sepsis and infertility and death.

And the men who stand behind pulpits and podiums and scream about all the sluts using abortion as birth control for convenience- they want to take all that away again.

And even if you don't, even if you truly are only thinking about little innocent babies and their perfect little angel souls- if you support them, you are helping them.

Paxton’s office petitioned the high court just before midnight Thursday, after a Travis County district judge granted a temporary restraining order allowing Kate Cox, 31, to terminate her nonviable pregnancy. Paxton also sent a letter to three hospitals, threatening legal action if they allowed the abortion to be performed at their facility.

Ken Paxton is a fucking ghoul.

This has 0 to do with "saving a life"- the pregnancy is unviable. It's all about ensuring that pregnancy is a weapon, a threat, a way to keep anyone who can become pregnant at a permanent disadvantage socially and financially.

I know that "hbomberguy emerges from a well armed with a whip to chastise humanity and murder Jamez Somerton" is the funny take on the recent events.

But I also keep thinking about why there's so much lazy plagiarism/content theft on Youtube/Tiktok/Twitched

Now, I know the commodification of art isn't a NEW situation, but between social media and AI, it does seem like we've broken into a new plateau of content mill Era. And artists SHOULD and NEED to get paid. But when the value of "art" is reduced to clicks and ad revenue, I think the system becomes primed for this kind of low effort theft.

Somerton and Illuminaughti and all the others wouldn't have been plagiarizing and content stealing if it wasn't making them so much fucking money to do so.
