it's not "am I good enough to do it?", it's "do I like it enough to be bad at it?"
Because what you do at first will always be crap. But crap makes good compost.

A lot of people love that fake Voltaire quote, "To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize," because it's just vague enough to cover everyone's differing definition of who they are. Obviously the neo-Nazi who made this quote up meant it to imply Jewish people, but there's actually lots of different groups that aren't considered socially acceptable targets of specified critique.
You know who no one ever lets me criticize? Orphans. Anytime I try to point out that orphans are living lavishly at the expense of hardworking taxpayers, people around me always seem to get disgusted. Naturally, this suggests that we live in a world ruled by orphans
I don't give a FUCK how thick his ass is I'm going to kill Miguel O' Hara for being mean to Miles
Miles, in the best spanish he can: te traje una empanada :3
Miguel: I hope your dad dies
i feel like every human should max out at one disability or chronic illness. like when i hit adolescence and my brain chemistry went “bipolar time now?” the response should have been an error message like sorry! this slot can only contain one (1) item and has been filled with childhood asthma. i would even allow the possibility that you can overwrite previous disorders like “you have equipped chronic migraines and so no will no longer display symptoms of bipolar disorder.” i just think it should work that way.

@lowlifekidnappinghuman We never find out. This was a cold open for the episode and it was never revealed what happened.
Pjo idea post canon right now annabeth notices percy starting to naturally ascend (I like the 'next dionysus' fics) and she is not going to be the mortal who got away (died) so she decides to buckle down and devises a way to be worth godhood (not just immortality) and the whole fic is her doing all these impossible tasks and quests a la hercules (she is even hated by Hera too) while keeping it under wraps because (read this in a fic) the sooner the imminent new god realizes it the more painful it is to remain in a mortal body and she wants everything to go as smoothly as possible
Was trying to think Greek heroines and every article just talked about goddesses or naiads which is not what I was looking for but then I remembered the popularity of percy chaos fics but what about annabeth researching and struggling to find a precedent of a woman attaining godhood or immortality without it being a symptom of marriage to a god, so she goes older than that, someone she could impress, and tries to find a way back to the edge of Chaos (without all of tartarus again)
When I'm in charge as director showrunner of an animation project I am putting all the frames into tiny micro expressions during tense conversations and giving the fight scenes 8 fps. Hands WILL be clenching; weird faces will be mandatory
The fact that these two companies used to actually take extra time to animate bloopers for their films, actual animated bloopers, amazed me as a kid and still today as an adult.
being called pretentious on tumblr is just affirmation that you’re normal and on the right track because this website is full of adults who haven’t picked up a real book since tenth grade
i used to hate “meta” films and tv shows because i had never seen it done competently but now that i’ve done a module on metafiction for my degree i actually think we’re not seeing meta get utilised to nearly enough of its potential. we could have films where an acknowledgement or confrontation of the fact that these are characters moving through the motions of a predetermined storyline could be used to thrill or to horrify, a feeling of being watched *back*, but instead the general concensus seems to be that 4th wall breaks can only be funny :( i thought deadpool was fun on my first watch but in hindsight i hate the effect that movie had on popular cinema
too often we’re seeing “meta” moments onscreen written by people with a contempt for storytelling and a desire to make fun of and undermine the art form. we need meta jokes written by someone with a passion for the craft. we need more films made by people who read books
As per the apparent tumblr tradition, this match will be 1 Week long.

THE ICWA IS UPHELD
THE ICWA STANDS
I know it feels like an understatement but you sometimes make more progress by pointing out that conservatives are fucking rude. going out of your way to call someone the wrong name because you don't like them? rude. childish. this isn't fucking kindergarten, Carl. she said her name is Jennifer. Everybody knows her as Jennifer. You are the one making things confusing. Grow up.
"misgendering is violence": invites discourse over the TraNs DeBatE, puts people on the defensive, opens you up to accusations of liberal snowflakery, comes off as a hypothetical thought exercise
"Who the fuck is Jason? I don't know a Jason. Oh her? You mean Jen? You mean fucking Jen? That's Jen, dipshit." : crystal clear. you're making shit more difficult for everyone because you're a rude manchild.
