ferne question! are they a cat person or a dog person?

Ferne purses her lips and furrows her brows, their pondering probably coming off as a small scowl accidentally. It's almost uncomfortably silent as you stand there next to her. She blinks a few times. A hum blossoms in her throat, and they press into their plush bottom lip with her index. Finally, she opens her mouth to answer you.

"I've been asked this a few times..." she says, twirling her hair around her pinkie, and an exaggerated sigh passes through their lips. "It's a difficult question. Three of my younger siblings -- Omari, Theó, and Lousie -- they love dogs, and we have one of our own at home. But our oldest brother and his fiancé have two cats, and one of my older sisters really likes them." Their nose crinkles subconsciously. "As for me... well, I have a bird," she tells you, "so I'm partial to those."

"What's your bird's name?" you ask her with interest.

"Enzo," she smiles. Her eyes soften, expression almost nostalgic. "He is very sweet. Has a habit of stealing things from off of my desk," she reminisces. "My littlest brother, he loves Enzo."

You practically feel your heart melt at the fondness in their eyes, picturing a bird small enough to fit in her hands stealing stationary from her. She shifts in the plush chair opposite you a bit awkwardly, crossing their ankles and clearing their throat. "I'm sorry. That wasn't your question."

"That's okay!" you assure her, and she continues.

"Grim's given me a new outlook on cats," Ferne sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose tiredly, a grumbled string of something French under her breath. "They're so high-strung sometimes. I mean, I know he's technically a... dire-beast, but he acts just like my brother's: always knocking things over or scratching my furniture." The last part is more of a seething complaint than a simple remark, but you giggle.

"I just don't feel like cats are as loyal as dogs, you know? I'd much rather not have to worry about replacing couch cushions every few months."
