Strange that it never occured to me. There are times I've been so upset that I've stamped around while cussing, that I've lain flat on the floor and groaned for as long as I had breath, that I've ranted my frustration aloud in an unhinged monologue, that I've swung my limbs about in a fury. All until I'd vented enough to just ... resume my normal life.

And if I'd had not the privacy of my home, I'd either have had to bottle that all up ... or open it all up where the public could scrutinize my every move. It really is a privilege to not be constantly on display like that.

I've thought about that so much as a mentally ill person

I talk to myself a lot. I hit my head, I punch my walls, I scream, I cry messily, I stare into nothing with wide open eyes, I rock back and forth, I walk in circles

When I look at the "crazy homeless people", as others see them, all I can think is that we aren't that different. If I didnt have support or medication or even a home I too would probably be seen mumbling nonsense to myself, shivering, with "manic" wide eyes full of fear and confusion, crying and screaming

Mentally ill people who have the privilege of meds and a support system and even basic things like a house, we can never forget that we aren't better or less "crazy", we just have the "privilege" (shouldn't have to be a privilege) of privacy and dignity

i can’t believe that brennan lee mulligan created an autistic character, gave her wings of fire, made her one of the best npcs to ever exist, never made her mask, and then had her romance one of the pcs and made them girlfriends.

(that’s actually really cool though that brennan listened to fans’ experiences and made sure to do the character justice and have good representation, especially since that wasn’t necessarily what he had in mind for that character. i had just very heartily assumed that he had made a conscious choice to include an autistic character and just looked at the most common traits and went with it lmao)

Brennan was asked a question about Ayda that included thanks for how great the representation is or something like that, and he was like “yeah that wasn’t intentional. I wanted a Sherlock Holmes-type really intelligent but not great with social skills character, and i took a lot of inspiration from some friends of mine”

and it wasn’t until he saw so many autistic fans pointing out how great of representation she is, how seen they felt, that he was like “oh shit yeah the friends i took so much inspiration for her from are all autistic, sherlock holmes is autistic-coded, i hadn’t considered that”

I also remember him saying something about hiring an autism sensitivity consultant for her though, like as soon as he realized she was autistic he also decided to make sure he’d do it correctly.
