How dare you. The animation for Shrek at the time was INSANE.
I feel like what people who were born after Shrek always miss is that it was actually a huge unironic cultural sensation. The minions want what Shrek had. The mcu sits awake at night cursing lord farquaad because they could never have a villain as well written as him
Shrek was a revolution for 3D CG animation.
Compare human figures in Toy Story (1995)
Toy Story 2 (1999)
Monsters Inc. (2001)
Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (2001)
and Shrek (2001)
Even Shrek himself counts
Look at that detail - Shrek and Farquaad have subtle stubble, Shrek has liver spots on his scalp, characters have pores on their skin, Shrek’s ears here even have a subtle transparency like real skin and cartilage. His linen tunic has scruffy and rough edges and lint bobbing on the shoulders. Shrek doesn’t just represent a step forward, it represented a BIG jump. Look back at the early 3D Pixar films and you’ll see a progression in what 3D software could effectively render - first plastic toys, then chitinous insects, then scaly or leathery monsters with an enterprising look into the astoundingly complicated field of hair and fur. Shrek is a joke now, but it revolutionised the field of animation. Shrek finally prompted the Academy to add an Award for Best Animated Feature; after Beauty and the Beast lost Best Picture a few years before, Shrek was the point they could no longer dismiss the art and effort that go into animated films.
It also killed interest in 2D animation in the west but that’s none of my business
Never forget that they had to tone down the detail on Fiona’s hair because it looked TOO realistic to the point it was distracting.
rangshi commission!!
sorry for the inactivity, i swear im working on another comic for these two gjrejgd

for #blendtober i want to learn and be more efficient with 3d modeling by studying games i like ..hope i can keep it up 🥺
You have to admire her audacity, if nothing else.
Literally my favourite thing about Rogue One is that it makes the opening of New Hope so funny. Like, Vader has followed Leia from a planet he just blew up seconds ago and pursued her across the galaxy and then she’s just like: ‘I’m on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan’
Vader: You’re a rebel. I just had a fight with your entire rebel fleet and followed you here. Straight from the rebels. Of which you are a part
Leia: *dramatic gasp* rebel? Me??? I was just passing through. Diplomatically. Thought it was a five-space-ship pile-up or something going on there…
death star plans? on my alderaanian diplomatic mission? it’s more likely than you think
ok but this is like legitimate Canon Improvement because I’d always wondered why Vader was so wildly furious at the start of the movie like “rahhhhh bring me the passengers I WANT THEM ALIVE!!!!” and now I’m like
ohh yeah okay they literally JUST blew up Vader’s base, stole his sh!t, and took off while giving him the finger from the window
while giving him the finger from the window
IT GOT BETTER
The other thing is, Leia has been strong with the Force her whole life without really knowing it. Luke is an insanely good shot, an ace pilot, quick with machines. These are the skill he learned growing up. Imagine Darth Vader’s and Padme Amidala’s ACTUAL DAUGHTER being raised as a diplomat and princess. Imagine Bail Organa introducing her to the Rebellion. Imagine the MASSIVE FUCKING LIES she’s told, and how they probably went something like an accidental Jedi Mind Trick for most of her life. And now here’s (secret) Dad, and he ain’t buying it honey.
That^^ addition. I like it.
Ooooh, that’s a great addition to my “stormtroopers can’t hit Luke, Leia, or their companions because they’re unconsciously using the Force to protect themselves” headcanon. (Nothing fancy, just enough to make shots go an inch or two wide. But you gotta figure the Empire has all kinds of numbers on their troopers’ accuracy, with specific tech to track performance. I bet the after-action reports on engagements with these two are really interesting.)
For my money Leia’s best moment is when she lies about the location of the rebel base and Tarkin believes her. Doesn’t stop him blowing up Alderaan, but he is so mad when he finds out there’s nothing on Dantooine. You gotta figure Tarkin’s good at seeing through deceptions, or he wouldn’t be where he is… but it’s already pretty much canon that Leia’s Force sensitivity helped her resist torture and mind probing, so I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest that she gave Tarkin just the slightest nudge toward “she’s telling me the truth.”
edit: I can hear @mackensen quoting Obi-Wan’s line on “the Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded” at me and I am not saying Tarkin has a weak mind, but a) I didn’t say it was a strong influence either, just a nudge, and b) Tarkin does not expect a teenage girl to lie to his face with the fate of her home planet on the line. He expects her to just tell him where the fucking base is already. That’s not even an unreasonable expectation, but in this case it’s a weak point for her to exploit.
This post gets a little better every time I see it.

I have made it no secret that I am a big Kataang shipper on this blog. My Kataang x Rayllum series proves that as well. But one day, my brain went, “Hey, instead of just some parallels here and there, why don’t you look at the overlapping arcs and romantic beats of Kataang and Rayllum’s individual relationship development?” Thus, here we go.
Quick disclaimer: this doesn’t mean I think Rayllum is going to be canon (I have other reasons for thinking that, since S1). I don’t necessarily think this means that Aaron Ehasz is a Kataang shipper; I take him by his word that he doesn’t tend to ship things at all. If Rayllum doesn’t become canon, I don’t think it means that Aaron doesn’t support/like Kataang either. This is just a series of cool parallels and overlapping arcs that are already common with romantic plots, some that aren’t, and some fun general dynamic things as well. Cool? Cool.
I’ll be doing my best to go in chronological order, but here’s just a brief overview to start.
Magical sibling (Katara / Callum) and non magical brother (Sokka / Ezran) meet a tattooed kid from another culture (Aang / Rayla) and through a series of wild circumstances, the siblings agree to leave behind their home and travel with the other kid to try and restore peace to the world. Being more knowledgeable about the world and its magic system, the tattooed kid mentors the magic kid and reaffirms their bending/magehood.
The slightly older, slightly more serious/responsible female half of the ship (Katara / Rayla) is linked to the moon, and the slightly goofier, more carefree and younger by a year or two male character (Aang / Callum) is linked to the sky.
That’s not to say that either of these scenarios is always succinct. As we can see, there are already things and attributes being swapped. However, as we move forward in the analysis, Katara + Callum, Rayla + Aang, and Aang + Callum are the most common parallels. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
What makes a lasting bond? A significant first meeting certainly helps. This is one thing Rayllum and Kataang have in common, even on the surface their first meetings couldn’t be more different. Katara arguably saves Aang’s life by freeing him from the iceberg and bringing it to the surface to begin with, and Rayla is threatening Callum’s life, so how are the meetings similar? Remember how I said Callum and Katara tend to have the most parallels? This is one of those times.
Simply put, Callum and Katara always believed that Rayla and Aang, respectively, are ‘good’ so to speak. Callum asks why they can’t just make peace with the elves. He argues ethics with Rayla. He sees her as a person: “You know this is wrong.” He doesn’t believe, deep down, that she has to be his enemy. Likewise, Katara trusts Aang right from the start. While Sokka is suspicious, Katara outright dismisses his claims: “Oh yeah, I’m sure he’s a spy for the Fire Navy, you can tell by that evil look in his eye.”
Then, there’s the fact that without hours (or 2-3 days, for Kataang) both couples are making huge changes and leaps of faith for one another. Aang offers to personally fly Katara to the Northern Water Tribe to find a waterbending master for her, although she’s initially hesitant. Aang gives himself up to protect the Southern Water Tribe (and, emotionally, Katara). Rayla offers to fight against her own kind to protect Harrow for Callum’s sake. Callum and Katara both decide to leave behind everything they’ve ever known. When it comes to major risk taking, Aang and Callum both say no.
“Man, sometimes I forget what a powerful bender that kid really is.”
SAME. EXACT. ENERGY.
It’s been over a month and a half, and sometimes it is still hard to believe the sheer amount of quality Rayllum moments and scenes we were given in season two, and one of my favourite scenes between them in the season is undeniably the hug scene at the end of 2x04.
Not only does the context before this scene make my heart swell — worried Rayla, my kids by the lighting, and her checking up on him to begin with, in addition to him trusting her with a bag and some sweet, small smiles — and that it is technically a reunion, but I think the scene itself speaks volumes about where Rayla and Callum are in their relationship, and just how much she values him.
But first, the context. Callum, spurred on by Rayla’s initial assessment of him as a mage all the way back in 1x03, is seeking to forge his own connection with the Sky arcanum. Rayla isn’t impressed.
But what I want to highlight here is that, all throughout s1, Rayla was Callum’s primary teacher in magic. She was the one calling him a mage, the one teaching about primal sources, the one getting the cube in case it might help him, the one helping him disperse fulminus and the one teaching him how to use it properly. She was also the first person he opened to in regards to how magic made him feel: “ So when I tried that spell, I was sure I’d end up on fire, or covered in spiders… but it worked. And then you called me a mage, and that felt… right.”
And she doesn’t approve of his journey into the storm with Zym, either. She reluctantly agrees, and projects annoyance until her facade falls away and we see that, specifically, she is worried about Callum: “If you die out there, I’ll kill you!” There is no way she would be saying that also in reference to Zym.
atla is my favourite show because it always makes me want to be a better, kinder person

Remember when we first met, and you took me racecar driving? I remember how terrified you were. I was not! Anyway, what I remember most was how relieved I felt. Relieved? Yeah. My whole life, I was always told I was too wild, too emotional, too intense, but it turned out you could be just as intense as me. I’ve never had anyone in my life who got me the way you do.
Aang’s conflict started when he ran away from home because he never wanted to be the Avatar, and finished when he duelled the Fire Lord when he was 13. Zuko’s conflict started when he duelled the Fire Lord when he was 13, and finished (technically) when he ran away from home to help the Avatar.
X-Men are real, their powers are just super shitty.
how do I find a fic that’s exactly like the one I’ve just read but also different
^^^reasons why writers shouldn’t be worried about using the same tropes/concept/plot that’s been done before
Mind blown
