okay but nessie was given the scientific name nessiteras rhombopteryx so she’d be included in the conservation of wild creatures and wild plants act of ‘75.

it’s a felony to shoot bigfoot in washington state.

the human race has sent out messages to the stars, hoping that any extraterrestrials who hear will accept our offer of friendship.

ghost hunters extend their sympathy to the souls of murder victims and bring along items that the spirits loved in life.

I think there’s something very human about the desire to believe in the paranormal. we don’t know if any of these things truly exist, but we make the offer of friendship and protection anyway. I just think it’s really lovely in its own ridiculous way.

I think it's important to remember, as a rule of thumb, if you take advantage of a social service, it actually makes it easier for other people who need that service to access it. Most of the time, when these services get cut, it's because politicians will look at usage and say "see, no one is really using this thing, we can afford to trim the budget for food stamps by at least half". Whereas if you decide to step up and use these programs, even if you feel like you "don't really need it", at bare minimum it's another data point advocates can use to say "hey, look, people are using this thing, this is an important service we are providing, do not cut our funding".

I work at a nonprofit, and it is absolutely wild explaining to folks that being part of a program that reduces their energy bill actually helps us get funding to help even more people get energy bill savings.

You aren’t taking resources from anyone by using programs you qualify for. You are making a case for those programs being important enough to continue to exist and (in many cases) grow.

As it becomes winter again… and as somebody who once popped out his kneecap by slipping on ice, I would like to remind my followers that slip on shoe spikes exist.

You can usually get ones like these for around $10, and they’re really worth it. They’re made of rubber, so you can just fold them up, and I’ve been using mine for a couple of years now.

And if you use a cane, don’t be afraid to get one of these bad boys:

[Image: The bottom of a cane, with an ice grip attachment. The end has several metal spikes for gripping ice and snow.]

The tip is on a hinge. You pinch the white knobs together and the ice tip just sorta flips around and up against the cane, so you can use it on dry floors indoors without removing it entirely! This thing has saved me from so many falls in the winter.

It’s not quite winter again, but here we go again

Ice grip attachments for CANES?! Hell yes. BRB, buying a few.

people who do over the top or silly makeup are the only ones doing it right. makeup shouldnt be used to make your face slimmer or lift your cheekbones or whatever it should be used to make you look like a weirdo or perhaps a beast

my instinct was to imagine johnny knoxville introing saw traps but it’s way funnier to imagine jigsaw introing jackass stunts. hello ehren. before you is ufc heavyweight champion francis ngannou. you’ll notice you are standing on chairs to place him at waist height. you’ll also notice you are wearing only a jockstrap.

For the last time. A bear is a FAT hairy man. FAT. FAT. Say it with me because it’s not a bad word. Bears are fat men. Stop showing me dehydrated and muscular hairy white men. That is not a bear. That is some generic white guy I don’t want to look at. Give me real bears or give me death.

Hey guys, if you have the time please click this link and go view the AIDS memorial quilt. As of last year, all 1.2 million feet of the quilt has been photographed and made viewable to the public.

As such a cornerstone to our community as queer people, the AIDS quilt was a sign of love and remembrance of all who were lost. And for some, with no solution in sight. What a wonder science is, because living as HIV/AIDS positive is no longer a death sentence. It is a treatable and manageable disease. We can live full and happy long lives and not transmit the disease.

When it was intitially unveiled, the quilt had about 2,000 panels and it was now bloomed into 48,000. The majority of them measuring 6'3". About the size of a grave.

I urge you to take the time to treasure, understand, and support our community. As their lives and the queer movement- have brought undoubtable freedom as we live in our own.

Making a quilt can take countless of hours. And a quilt of this size, it's a whole generations worth.

Love your queer elders. Love your gay history. Live free, today.

life really is just like. you meet people you love them and then you lose them and you never see them again. and it's inevitable and it happens to everyone and there's nothing you can do about it
