Hey so I wanna talk about something I swore to never talk about. Let me give you some backstory; I used to be friends with Syd aka Yerrgat. We got along really well and I considered him a close friend. He created the “Imagine Inkopolis” zine a while ago and of course I joined it to support his creation. To be clear, this zine was unpaid, free to download, and generally pretty low key. Or so I thought anyways. As the work on the zine progressed, Syd’s behavior became more erratic. He micromanaged the artists and made extreme demands of them. No piece was ever good enough, as if they didn’t suit his tastes. Syd acted as if his taste in art was the correct one. Anyone that strayed from his vision was harshly reprimanded and treated very poorly. I spoke with other artists in the zine and they all expressed similar frustrations with Syd. Ei. Him being demanding and unfair. The intensity of the zine was completely uncalled for. Syd constantly breathed down our necks and lashed out when we asked for space. To be fair, the piece I made for that zine straight up sucked. But I was dealing with a lot of personal issues and university work at the time. I spend more time on the piece than I had ever spent on a piece of art, and I wasn’t proud of it but I felt it was good enough for the zine. I found out later from a friend that Syd and Umbra (the other mod) were making fun of my art behind my back. Syd rejected my piece and kicked me out of the zine. I lost my cool at that point becuase he had been treating me terribly and I had hit my breaking point. I didnt speak to him again after that. When he announced a new zine (splashback) I made a story post on Instagram warning everyone of how awful working with him was. This of course backfired as his cult following turned against me instantly. I lost a lot of friends during this time and the door was closed on me ever being successful in the fandom. My friend who was still in the server told me that Syd became obsessed with hating me and tarnishing my name after this. Apparently he went on a rampage to hate everything I was doing and make fun of me. Of course I’m sad about it, but honestly I’m more angry at this point. I’m angry that people are still supporting him after his behavior. How can he get away with treating people like this? I don’t know much about what’s going on in his current zine, but I’ve seen screenshots of things he has said. Some of you may know I’m modding the Splat Family zine. Its been a really wonderful experience and the people working on it are so lovely. We have never once talking bad about another zine… So to find out that Syd has been talking bad about us is heartbreaking. Bogoro, (our zine creator) made this project out of love. I’m so upset that Syd used his power and influence to cause rifts in the community. This fandom has been a bit of a dumpster fire for a while now, but this is unacceptable. No wonder people are at each others throats. He’s incredibly twofaced so I understand if you think he’s done nothing wrong. I’m not asking anyone to do anything, I just want you all to know the truth. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of backlash from this but I’m so tired of seeing people get hurt by him.
