Order packing going well but slower than originally planned. Have been taking lots of notes on how to speed up. Thx for your patience over this launch crunch, will get orders out asap.

We are about 50% through.

I hoped to be done by this weekend, it’s probably going to be mid week next week by the time we wrap.

We are getting faster but are out of practice. Thank you!

That -347 indicates how many we have printing on next production session (wee hours tomorrow morning or very late tonight).

This is the latest batch.

Of this card alone!!

It’s the on sale one so it has a much higher volume, but wow!!

We expected to sell a few dozen max (laugh) My ghosts and monsters and witches and mermaids, thank you.

We are chomping through this promo, getting these orders out the door, learning and relearning as we go.

The future is bright orange and vibrant green and resplendent purple and hallowed black.

Okay enough rambling coffee is brewed it’s back to work.

Cottagesnore

My new aesthetic app

You browse cabins and cottages and select the one you like, then the cycle repeats and you pick a set of pajamas, the cycle repeats a final time with drink selections

As you are brought to your vacation spot, you fill out increasingly intricate surveys, allowing you to participate in, but not forcing you to decide upon, something to watch or read

When a witch

Kisses the moon

On the lips

That’s grim-oir-e

Bells will ring, summon a cursed thing, and I will sing “carpe noctem” (I shall cast Luck spells at ‘em)

I should start a music studio that covers old songs with haunted silly sappy versions and hire someone else to do the song writing

The crew shoving me into a locker whenever I try to come up with a new business idea

Because apparently we are “at capacity”

and “I don’t know how to run a music studio”

and I “should be drawing right now not inventing new businesses”

I’ll show you, nerds

I’ll show you yet

Storm Bread

The dryad pulled the loaf of bread from the oven, smelling the perfume of flour and herbs, and was overwhelmed a bit with the majesty of simple pleasures.

Thunder cracked open the sky outside.

Around her cozy home, in the midst of the haunted woods where autumn reigns eternal, the rain began to pour. The temperature dropped, the winds and ghosts began to raise a blue symphony.

The dimming sunlight of early twilight receded further.

The dryad carried the loaf of freshly baked bread to the open windowsill, where her wife, a mermaid, sat with her head in her webbed hands, gazing with open adoration up at the rain.

Upon a wire rack the loaf pan was set to cool for a few minutes, before the bread would be removed, to cool further, absorbing the storm's energy.

Upon the dryad's cheek a tender kiss was placed, by her wife, who began to sing softly,

in the language of waves,

of storms

and jams

and lazy evenings

at home

My producer Fang: How convenient is it for you, specifically, that every errand you need to run “just so happens” to be next to a cemetery. Or stationery store. Or a diner. Or art store.

atty: I am very blessed.

Fang, about to lose it: YOU GET LOST IN THE BUILDING THE STUDIO IS IN. WE HAVE BEEN THERE FOR 12 YEARS. YOU SENT ME A TEXT LAST WEEK ASKING HOW TO GET OUT OF THE BASEMENT.

atty: I am selectively blessed.

Here is my plan

Make a ton of stuff, as neat and high quality and as ranged in variety of media in a fairly narrow (monsters living in paradise) as possible

Keep going

One of the things I love doing is collecting information. And answering surveys. I have since I was a kid — give me paperwork to fill out and I am extremely pleased.

Tumblr Surveys are incredibly fun, to me, with the above, to fill out.

But I am wary of how this will play off Tumblr —

respectfully to the work the staff crew put into building/maintaining surveys on tumblr —

I want to dig into data, make infographics, and have permanently open surveys. Blog post and comics on social things.

To be clear: the questions would be exclusively fantasy-and-similar based.

Things like: “Survey for Elven Warriors, which type of weapon do you prefer? Bow, sword, magic…” (etc)

  • There would be no logins.
  • There is no actual personal, or real world, information requested.
  • It is of course free
  • To stress: this is light weight and entertainment only
  • Why am I disclaiming so much hey why don’t I just ask the question
Thank you in advance!

If this is popular we will give it a shot! If not the I will just write it into stories instead. No feelings hurt.

This is part of the collective collaboration of monster nonsense we will slowly be developing :)

The poll is still open but the results are overwhelming. I've begun hammering them out the plan.
  • The surveys are going to be free. This is just for fun.
  • They'll be open continuously. I love the idea of having a continual supply of increasingly odd and specific surveys.
  • They are information gathering.
  • You do not have to be truthful, or singular -- you can answer today from your dwarven healer and tomorrow (or immediately following) from your elven rogue.
  • There is no sales pitch.
  • There is no trick.
  • You do not sign up for anything when it's done.
  • You do not register for an email list when it's done. If you want to sign up for our email list, that option is provided, but it's a completely separate box from the submission form. It'll be a small widget at the bottom, "Hey! Thanks for submitting! Want to sign up for emails? Here is a box."
  • This is for fun.
  • It's not scientific.

No information will be required. Not your name, not your email.

"So what happens with the gathered information?"

Charts!

Graphs!

Blog posts! Information graphics!

You know those pretty yet very annoying graphics you see on the news? Here is one from wikipedia!

Image

Things like this.

It'll be fun.

I love data. I don't need accurate data to be entertained -- hence the "you can answer as many times as you want, as often as you want." The information will be gathered for a period of time (probably the length of time between writing surveys) and then assembled into a graphic.

Each survey will remain open after the chart has been updated -- each chart will be marked with with the date of publication.

If the data changes to a statistical degree, I'll make a new chart, and add a comparison. Maybe 2024 mermaids are super popular, maybe 2026 centaurs are more popular.

In Conclusion
  • Thank you for your interest in this project.
  • I'm recognizing in the data collection the reason I've been so skiddish about it (hence the extra long rambles) is because this is actually one of the oldest projects I've wanted to launch
  • I had a similar idea some 25+ years ago but never had the space to launch it -- always rush rush rush rush rushing crushing hustling hustling crushing-hustling

I'm in the middle of "Pack Up Initial Orders okay now we're out of boxes Pack Up More Orders okay we are waiting on prints Pack Up Initial Orders okay rush to post office."

So I'm

Planning

a lot

(laugh)

thank you

back to work

3 different color pens (or more) and a cheap box of color pencils. That’s the key, I am finding, to making notes significantly easier to read, follow, and remember.

Also I spent a week figuring out how to future-proof against social media platforms saying “hm actually now we hate you, specifically, tiny independent creator” so now I am MUCH more comfortable pursing story plans.

I do not have the mindset for traditional publishing tracks, as a career direction. I love self publishing my own work.

Back to work, sending out more parcels. Just got a box of boxes in, time to convert them into mail before the post office closes.

Write in your books.

If that makes you recoil? Scanners are cheap, or photocopiers are available at your job (probably), the library, office supply stores.

…I legitimately forgot phones have cameras for 3 minutes (laugh). Take photos on your phone then print them out.

I am becoming increasingly intense about reducing admin. It’s necessary, it’s important, and excess admin does not create value.

Learned this the hard way.

Getting back into stories.

Quick question for writers out there, does everyone struggle with the desire to build complex interconnected realities and fear the slightest inconsistency or is this somehow a unique creative issue to me as a person exclusively and also reflects on my personal character and thus conviction to make stories.

Immediately upon posting this I remembered this Treehouse of Horrors segment which provides brilliant writing advice.

Intensely niche business plan with real world financial risks: no problem

The statistically irrelevantly-sized chance that inconsistencies in my writing, which is primarily free, and when not free is extremely inexpensive, destroys what I have spent my entire life building: near crippling anxiety

(Having a good laugh at myself at this realization, going to make a sign out of this post)

Talking to characters historically helps me write.

So one asked “maybe you fear inconsistencies and contradictions because you fear disrespecting your reader?”

Which is a thick piece of cloth to chew on.

I love — LOVE — writing, and I love publishing nearly as much. If I hold the work to a mathematical standard of Must Line Up Always, it all collapses.

Okay this was super helpful, thanks for joining me on tonight’s ramble.

The first is an old meme I made years ago.

The second is an old drawing of mine, similarly from years ago.

I'm working on figuring out how to publish stories again in a way that will sustain the perceived shifts in social media.

I am.

Very.

:)

about all of this.

"This would be easier if I would just write novels," I say, wearing armor of ignorance about the difficulty in writing a novel, a format I deeply love, to read, and not one I wish to embark on, in creation.

happy friday (laugh)

Hi friends who've been here a long time -- remember several years ago when I would publish several very short stories a week?

I'm working on doing that again.

This is a convenient time to irregularly remind you that Evil Supply Co. has become @netherworldpost -- same crew, same everything, just focusing more on "monsters, mail"

Thank you for being here.

It's an intense thought to think Evil Supply Co. started in 2012 and I'm writing this in 2024, and aside from a fresh coat of paint and a better sleep schedule, it's somehow still going.

okay back to work

the sentiment is 100% true but the rambling language is procrastination against figuring out tricky things (laugh)

On a deeply personal, largely irrelevant to anything, moment of fleeting queer joy today (there is a positive post exclusively)

I had a meeting with two clients, we are about to work on a project about centaurs. Something small and light and fun for the summer, nothing huge.

One client is new relatively new to hiring this kind of work, another client is one of the most important client. Of my career. Ever.

Neither of these gentlemen are mean or demanding or in any way, shape, or form, difficult to work with, it's all light hearted.

We are waiting for the meeting to begin (a few other parties joining, this is a round table to discuss RPG monsters) and somehow we got talking about names. Probably character name inspiration? Moving on.

"My mother almost named me { name }"

"Oh that's funny, my mother told me if I was born { different gender } I would have been named { another name }."

And I Without thinking As casually as telling someone what time it is,

"Oh, my parents and i don't discuss opposite gender names, for obvious reasons."

And the three of us laughed.

Big, queer, trans, robust laugh. It was beautiful. The three of us have never discussed gender or presentation or queerness on any level, at all, ever. This is not a forum where things are discussed --

-- not in the sense That Would Be Forbidden --

-- but in the same way we don't talk about the weather systems of neighboring cities or the price of green beans. It just doesn't come up.

It was this moment.

A fruit bat and Two Very Successful Powerful Businessmen. Laughing, in joy, over a simple joke that happened to discuss queering the gender.

A peak into How the World Could Be.

It objectively isn't even that strong a joke, it's more a musing than anything.

There was no pressure.

No fear.

No recoil.

There will be no repercussions.

It was 2 seconds.

It was as casual as "Hey how was your weekend?"

And then we moved on.

The simplicity of this comfort is. Astounding.

I'm going to carry this gift for a very long time.

I had a dream last night I was telling a jack-o-lantern that I could never fit in all my Halloween plans into October.

It said that was a good thing.

To have so much love for a season that I have a to do list that would never finish meant I would never be done celebrating.

In today’s observation that people will pack bond with anything, I thanked the Halloween decorations in my studio for keeping watch all these years while I fight and tussle and fall asleep at my computer and celebrate and dance and draw and curse and lounge and work and create and make.

“Thank you for keeping watch,” I say.

They declined to comment, being inanimate objects, so I respectfully add for them,

“I am literally just Halloween decorations you keep up all year.”
