How to be More Thick-Skinned

1. Don’t take criticism personally. Instead, realize that criticism says more about them than it does about you.

2. Distinguish between facts and subjectivity. Most criticisms are just personal opinions. They are not objective and they don’t reflect the truth.

3. Look at the beliefs you hold about yourself. Do you feel defensive and under attack because you don’t believe in yourself?

4. Learn what you can from any comments that are made – and discard the rest as being useless information.

5. Decide not to ruminate on barbs or criticisms - as that will reinforce the faulty message in your brain.

6. Choose to spend more time with people who’re affirming – and minimise the time you spend with those who put you down.

7. Look for a role model who can handle criticism – and try to copy them, so you become more thick skinned, too.

Healthy New Year's Resolutions That Don't Involve Weight Loss

Rather than focusing on losing weight in 2018, let’s think about what we can gain. What can you add to your life to make it more satisfying? What new practices would make you happier and feel better? Consider some of these healthy resolutions for the new year:

  • Get more quality sleep
  • Eat vegetables at every meal
  • Wash your bed sheets regularly
  • Meditate
  • Spend more time outside
  • Actually eat your fruit before it goes bad
  • Get back in touch with old friends
  • Bring your own bags when grocery shopping
  • Don’t watch tv or use the computer during meals
  • Support local farms and food producers
  • Take vitamins
  • Stretch and improve your flexibility
  • Drink herbal tea instead of coffee
  • Concentrate on improving your posture
  • Make doctor and dentist appointments in a timely fashion
  • Cook and prepare lunch instead of relying on processed foods
  • Floss and replace your toothbrush
  • Consciously consume less caffeine
  • Clean your kitchen and dishes after each meal
  • Participate in Meatless Mondays
  • Stop biting your nails
  • Compliment someone every day
  • Cut back on your sodium intake
  • Regularly donate unworn and ill-fitting clothing to a local shelter
  • Wear sunscreen every day you’re outside
  • Clean your pantry and throw out expired food each month
  • Quit smoking
  • Get an eye exam and update your prescription
  • Cut down on the amount of plastic you use each day
  • Re-try foods that you hate, but haven’t eaten in years
  • Delete a social media account
  • Moisturize and remove your makeup before going to bed
  • Keep a journal

Focus on changing your behavior instead of changing your body, and then every step will be a step forward.

we’re literally floating on a tiny planet in fucking space why are we surrounded by hatred and misery. why can’t everyone just calm the fuck down and lay on some grass. the sun is a GIANT BURNING ORB why does money exist. fuck everything

Anxiety is something that constantly makes you feel anxious of the same things over and over again but you can’t talk about it over and over again because it will drive people away.

see the issue? (via ashleymacleanblog)

Be sad but get up. You don’t have to shower. You can put on the same clothes you wore yesterday. Nobody will care. The sky is blue, wildflowers are blooming by the side of the road. Strangers have stories to tell. Go for a walk, go for a drive, go to a greenhouse, a bookstore, a movie theater. You can stay in bed but nothing is going to happen there. Sometimes you’ve really just got to get the fuck up.

little self care tips

- apply Vaseline to your eyes, lashes, brows, and lips before bed

- never brush curly hair while it’s dry

- on that note, applying products/oil to curly hair while dry is useless

- use a t shirt to dry hair to avoid frizz

- sleep without pants. trust me.

- avoid watery body lotions like Vaseline’s lotion. only dries you out

- avoid crystalline, jagged scrubs (sugar, coffee. St. Ives, etc.). Use round/gentle ones like oatmeal

- avoid coconut oil on face. if you apply it to your hair wash your face afterwards

- don’t put lemon on your face. it might seem like it’s helping but it weakens its protective layer in the long run. if you do use it, dilute it and avoid sun for a while.

- no toothpaste on pimples either it’s a myth

- why do u have a bra on at home. take that shit off and live a little.

- apply deodorant before getting dressed so it doesn’t rub off on your clothes defeating the purpose

- reapply sunscreen every 3-4 hours

- don’t text the fuckboy he don’t care about you

- wake up 30 minutes earlier to have a more relaxed morning and avoid rushing

- wash panties by themselves so you don’t get the gross dirt and germs from your other clothes mixed in. dry them in the sun to kill bacteria if possible.

- hand wash all hijabs they’ll last longer

- don’t use rose water with added fragrance. always check label

- eat at least one fruit or vegetable a day

- leave menial tasks for the end of the day. don’t drain yourself before getting to the important stuff

- before saying something mean or a nasty joke, take 5 seconds to think about it.

- apologizing first doesn’t make you weak

- being vulnerable doesn’t make you weak

- exfoliate after using foundation or powder

- clean phone screen with rubbing alcohol/sanitizer

might add more later or y'all can reblog with your own tips

The only known video footage of Anne Frank

I can’t think of any reason why someone would not reblog this.

If this isn’t interesting/sad to you, then I don’t know what you like in life.

People romanticize places they can’t get to themselves. That’s why it’s fascinating when people go dark – when Van Gogh cuts off his ear. You romanticize those people, sometimes out of proportion. It’s the same with music. You want a piece of that darkness, to feel their pain but also to step back into your own [safer] life. I can’t say I had that. I had a really nice upbringing. I feel very lucky. I had a great family and always felt loved. There’s nothing worse than an inauthentic tortured person. ‘They took my allowance away, so I did heroin.’ It’s like – that’s not how it works. I don’t even remember what the question was.
