Caroline, she/her. Adult but under 25. For some awful reason this is technically my main acc because it's the first one I made, but also I mostly just use it for reblogs. TERFs, racists, and p*dos/'maps' will die by my sword (her name is Slashley).

Proper introduction, I guess

Hi everyone! This is technically a writrblr now, and I’ve bothered you guys with memes about my characters without context for ages, so I guess I’d better give you a proper introduction to my manuscript

I’ve got three active WIPs, though one is in the editing stage and one is barely started.

The WIPs are:

1. Dungeons and Dipshits (AKA Magical Maniacs), a high-fantasy story that goes off the rails about a quarter of the way in-this one is barely started

2. The Making of Romeo and Juliet: by Verona City High, a modern retelling of romeo and juliet but also macbeth and also much ado about nothing and also hamlet, kind of (this one’s a movie and its first draft is done)

3. The Guild of Useless Superheroes (AKA Blood-Pink.), a superhero story about a bunch of people who probably shouldn’t be superheroes (This one is my main focus as of now).

This blog right now is going to mostly catalogue the third one.

You can find my characters masterlist here and a brief summary here

Hi,

It’s your friendly neighbor fanfic author here. In the light of this apparent new trend of people feeding unfinished fics to AI to get an “ending,” and some people even talking about “blanket permissions,” let me just say this:

I EXPLICITLY FORBID ANYONE TO FEED MY FICS TO AI. DUDE, THAT IS ABOUT THE LEAST RESPECTFUL THING YOU CAN DO. IF YOU DO IT, SHALL YOU BE EXCOMMUNICATED FROM YOUR FANDOM AND WALK ON LEGOS BAREFOOT TILL THE END OF DAYS.

That is my anti-permission.

Thank you for your attention.

Ai can be fun to use as a chatbot but DO NOT USE IT IN PLACE OF ACTUAL WRITERS OR ARTISTS because that is SUPER DISRESPECTFUL and also basically plagiarism when considering how AI works (trained off of the works of others and thus incapable of truly uniqueness or originality) .

but no yeah lets have the conversation:

"the CEO doesnt want to run that kind of website" Excuse, shouldnt have bought the 'go nuts show nuts whatever' website if thats the case. APPEAL DENIED

"we have to follow the TOS of the appstores we're hosted on" Excuse item one, no you dont, item two, you have since those days implimented infrastructure that would allow pornography and sex work on this platform Without violating TOS of any applicable app store. APPEAL DENIED

"we own the site we get to make the rules" Incorrect, this site has only ever made profit when the users willed it. we collectively own the site as a hive mind and no legal change in ownership will change that. APPEAL DENIED

"we have to keep this website safe for the children who use it" Argument based on fallacy banning pornography and sex workers does not prevent pornography and sex work from occuring on the site, it only forces aforementioned users to hide and avoid labling their content appropriately, which REDUCES the safety for children and sex workers alike instead of increasing it, this has been shown to the point that making this argument at all is tantamount to admiting fascist intent APPEAL DENIED

Reblog it. I want this to be on Tumblr radar by end of the week, i want my notes to be useless from the discourse, i want every single person on Tumblr to have seen this post at some point

So you finally follow me after all this time mwahahahahahahaha!!

say anything about my book and I unalive your ass, you hear me?

There is so much more I could say about this, but there is not enough room. Remember to check with reality rather than believing conspiracy theories promoted, supported, and funded by white nationalist hate groups.

Missouri is proposing 20% of the nation’s anti-trans legislation this session. Gender-affirming care for young folks is on the edge of being criminalized (so much love to trans friends in states where that has already happened).

Please keep up with the anti-trans legislation in your state and combat it. There are lives at stake.

Transphobes do not touch this post.

Image ID: a 10-image cartoon comic featuring Joey, a boy with short hair.

Image 1: Joey, upset, gesticulates towards an open laptop. Text reads: The reality of St. Louis trans kids. Last week, a former (non-medical) employee of Washington University’s Pediatric Transgender Center was featured in a viral article about how the clinic was “rushing” kids into medical care and “mutilating” us. Every single thing she said was a lie, but the media loves it. Footnote reads: I wouldn’t give any more attention to this, but it is immediately endangering the lives of trans people. Missouri has launched a state investigation and is actively attempting to criminalize gender-affirming care based on conspiracy theories.

Image 2: Joey points to a map of the United States where Missouri is singled out, and a map of Missouri where St. Louis is indicated with a star. The text reads: The Transgender Center, located in St. Louis, Missouri, has been the target of hateful attacks from the far-right state legislature for years. It is part of Washington University Hospital, a branch of a prestigious private university.

Image 3: A younger Joey injects his T shot in his leg while someone takes a photo. Text reads: I can tell you that everything in the article is false because I received care at the Transgender Center beginning at 16 years old. My medical transition has brought me nothing but joy. What a gift it is to be trans!

Image 4: A younger Joey sits on a couch and stims with a tangle fidget toy. Text reads: No one is “rushed”. I sat on many waitlists, had to have 6 months of specialized gender therapy and a diagnosis of gender dysphoria before even being referred to the Center, and I was denied as “not ready enough” by an endocrinologist the first time I finally got an appointment. Footnote reads: If you’re curious about what it looks like to be a trans kid, I did another piece on that! Check out tinyurl.com/transkidscomictumblr.

Image 5: A colorful map of the United States shows how many states have a Negative Gender Identity Policy Tally and how many states have criminalized gender affirming care. Joey holds a credit card. Text reads: St. Louis’ Pediatric Transgender Center is the only one in the region, meaning the waitlists are extremely long. Plus, no one in the only industrialized country without free healthcare is getting medical care for fun. Many American trans folks have to fundraise for our care.

Image 6: Joey, distressed, sits on a couch while talking on the phone. The person on the other end says: “That’s me!” Text reads: This former employee spoke about specific cases, and patients have been able to identify themselves. She shared our private medical info and called us horrifying.

Image 7: This is split into two panels. In the first, Joey holds up a box of condoms and a packet of birth control pills. Texts reads: She especially hated trans men such as myself, saying that trans ideology was destroying “girls”. She lamented about hormones making us “sterile”, which is a complete lie. We trans mascs have to actively prevent pregnancy. In panel two stands a doctor. Text reads: Every time I had an appointment at the Center, doctors reminded me: Remember: testosterone is not a contraceptive! Footnote reads: The wonderful Erin Reed wrote a breakdown debunking all the lies in the article. See tinyurl.com/erinreedmissouri.

Image 8: Joey, masked, sits at a circular table with his brother, an unmasked boy with fluffy short hair. Joey’s brother is showing him his phone. Text reads: Major newspapers continue to platform these complete lies because they bring in engagement and money. The Washington Post tracked down my little brother’s personal cell phone number to try to get in contact with our mom – the president of an organization supporting trans kids in Missouri. Freaky, right?

Image 9: Joey, looking disgusted, leans against a door frame while talking on a cell phone. Text reads: But no one wants to talk with me, the adult who medically transitioned at this clinic as a minor and has not “desisted” in six years. The Washington Post reporter, who didn’t know anything about trans people, talked with me for 20 minutes and used a sentence of mine in an article about “both sides of the debate”. She didn’t mention that this former employee is being legally represented by a recognized anti-LGBT hate group, nor that all of her claims are unsupported by reality or science.

Image 10: Joey looks angry and gesticulates. Beside the drawing are two photos of Joey, one of him happy in front of a trans flag, and the other of him drawing up testosterone to take his first T shot. Text reads: There is no debate. There are trans people, and there are people who want us dead. There is truth and there are conspiracy theories. Where is my viral article in a major paper?

Published Feb 16, 2023. End ID.

Heyo! This is the least amount of circulation one of these comics has gotten recently, and I’m trying to combat all of the virulently anti-trans media from almost all major publications in the US right now.

If you see this, please consider reblogging! It helps a lot!

for fucks sake leave trans people alone. if anyone comes at me for reposting this you're getting immediately blocked. trans people deserve to live their goddamn lives.

New 2023 discourse dropped, everyone prepare yourselves accordingly

you can get your 3ish hours of entertainment for you and only you, or you can help us all make it flop together, and give the whole world infinite enjoyment as the fate of the franchise is called into question and we can all laugh communally for years and years and years

Also indigenous groups are asking people to boycott the film.

Snagged these from ardtakeaction on Instagram. See also: asdzaa_tleehonaaei on Instagram.

it also has strobing that can and has triggered epileptics, which is bad enough but what’s especially hilarious is that one character in the film... has epilepsy :)

screencap of conversation I had with a friend who also has epilepsy who I was attempting to warn about the flashing scenes because at time of writing there were no warnings prior to screening- they had already been to a free screening

so yeah. bad film for so many reasons.

Let it go the way of Morbius. Convince them to make it flop twice >:D

So, I’ve been pulled over a few times in my life. Not many, but a few. And I’ve also been in a couple of cars that got pulled over. And let me tell you, if you were actually doing something wrong, the officer doesn’t make any small talk, just straight into “I clocked you doing 70 in a 55.” The only time I’ve ever gotten the “do you know why I pulled you over?” was the time when I wasn’t doing anything wrong, and I got let go even though he insisted to the end that I was doing 87 in a 70 (white privilege at work).

“Do you know why I pulled you over?” is a trap. It means there’s a good chance the officer doesn’t actually have a good reason to ticket you, and is trying to get you to waive your 5th Amendment rights and incriminate yourself. If you make a guess, that’s a confession of guilt.

But there’s another trap, that I’ve heard of but haven’t yet experienced. It’s “do you know how fast you were going?” With that one, they’re hoping you’ll say no, because then they can name whatever speed they want – you just said you didn’t know how fast you were going, if you deny the speed they name then you’re lying to them.

Oh, I’ve had that one. Go with “yes.” Don’t give them a number, just say “Yes.” Then they still have to offer a number and you can deny it without contradicting yourself. They could just ask you, at that point, but that’s suspiciously similar to saying they don’t know, and they tend to avoid doing that.

if you scroll past this just because it doesn’t affect you personally, i see you.

Also, you can always go to court and contest a ticket, and a lot of times you’ll win. Or if the cop thinks you’ll win they won’t even show up and you’ll win by default.

They like to target out of state plates because anyone who would be majorly inconvenienced by a court date two months away is a lot more likely to just pay it.

The $100-200 it usually costs to hire a ticket attorney is well worth it.

The Hobbits have spent generations making their roads complex af to keep Gandalf out

Theory accepted

Which is also why Gandalf is always late

but of course this is the absolute Least successful way to keep GANDALF of all people out, because-

  1. it’s a challenge
  2. that WON’T potentially kill him

which is really in short supply lately.

so while the hobbits think they are being hostile. what they are actually saying in Gandalf-speak is “please come back. we love you.”

People keep searching for ways to argue that JK Rowling has always been a horrible person deep down as a way of explaining her recent behaviour.

But here’s the thing: that’s probably not true at all.

Pretending it is discounts the harsher, scarier truth: that even decent, well-meaning people can be radicalised by dangerous, hateful, predatory groups, and given enough time they can become truly hideous versions of their former selves.

It can happen to me. It can happen to you. It can happen to any of us, given the right mix of circumstances. And over the past few years, we’ve seen it happen to one of the most famous children’s authors of our age.

Nobody is immune.

So you’re saying that The Clown wasn’t always… outright evil?

No one is born evil

Well…

Good point, but prejudice is best installed at a young age. Why is why I assumed the said Clown was just evil since some early part of their life.

What I’m saying is that JKR, like so many average people, very likely started off in a place of well-meaning ignorance. Then she started exploring new and different ideas being shared online. Some ideas resonated deeply with her experiences as an abuse survivor, so she began exploring them deeper. Then, wham, public backlash. Her trauma is triggered - but so is her curiosity. After all, if something she did or said set people off, maybe she’s onto something. So she starts exploring more. Starts asking more questions. And when she does this in public, there is always backlash. Meanwhile, however, in private, her new friends are telling her “See? This is proof we’re right. This is proof that the world wants us silenced, because they’re scared of the truth, and they really hate women that much.” And what do you know, what they’re telling her starts sounding more and more reasonable, especially since the outside world is becoming more and more hostile.

And round and round it goes, until you have a radical.

This is absolutely how radicalization works. I started out “I could never be a feminist, they hate kinksters” (yes, this was a massive oversimplification) and within, oh, i think two years? i was saying “well, i don’t like the overtones of ‘radical feminist’ but what’s so wrong with saying you’re a radical AND a feminist? we need to make sure there’s space for traumatized women who really do legitimately hate and fear men.” When you become an extremist, you become UNRECOGNIZABLE even to YOURSELF.

There is also this….revisionist tendency to say that JKR has always been a closet bigot and conservative and right-wing since she got famous, but that’s not even entirely true. One of her first major political stirrups was criticising Tory austerity measures and David Cameron, (she also once said “people who send their children to boarding schools seem to feel that I’m on their side. I’m not.”), donating to Labour and being openly supportive of the British welfare state. She has, in at least one interview (from 2000) self-proclaimed to be left-wing. As early as 2003, she claimed that one of her biggest writing influences was a Jessica Mitford, who Rowling described as a “self-taught socialist”

This isn’t to apologise for her behaviour or rehabilitate her into some former activist who is still worthy of saving; it’s to contextualise her recent descent into TERFdom compared to her previous political stances she’s openly held. She was probably never going to be a staunch ally for equality and diversity, and yes, a lot of the HP series were very problematic in retrospect, but she could very easily have gone the other way and at the very least turned out to be less of a bigoted shitbag she is now. The fact that her politics in late 2000′s/early 2010′s were similar to so many people who are now activists and organisers for queer, BIPOC and vulnerable communities should tell us to be all the more careful about radfem ideology and transphobia in progressive spaces.

It’s comforting to say “we should have known in hindsight that she was always going to become a TERF, the early signs were all there!” but that’s also not true. We have to recognise that the toxic ideology, the active harm she chooses to participate in, was a deliberate choice; this was a path she chose to go down, not one that was pre-determined for her. It’s also an easy way to separate ourselves from being critical of radfem influence; “JKR was always a right-wing bigot and that’s why she became indoctrinated with radfem bullshit. I’m not a right-wing bigot, therefore unlike her, I will never fall for radfem bullshit.”

People who become radicalised, including those to become radfems, were not always irredeemable right-winger proto-Conservatives doomed for extremism and hatred, and that’s the point. The revisionist idea that she was always beyond salvaging erases how TERFs recruit people (especially vulnerable, impressionable people) in queer, progressive and liberal circles and how easily their dogwhistles can go undetected. The idea that JKR was already a closet right-winger from the get-go and therefore could never have been a good person is ultimately unhelpful because all it does it separate from the reality of how radfem doctrine spreads. TERFs sell their own toxic, harmful views packaged as progressive ideas as part of their strategy and that’s why their ideology is dangerous and requires constant vigilance to drive out.

hey so we americans live in a gerrymandered hellscape but i literally cannot emphasize enough how important it’s going to be to vote anyway during these upcoming 2022 elections, and that goes quadruple if you live in pennsylvania

like for real not only is the governor race going to decide whether abortion access is kept legal in PA, but if fucking doctor oz makes it into the senate i swear to god i’m going to become the joker

fictional stories involving cloning and the "moral dilemma" of whether a cloned human should be considered a person are so fucking obnoxious to me, like from the earliest possible age it never made sense to me why people would hand-wring about the personhood of a clone. that's just a human being baby, don't be so weird about it

"but do they have SOULS???"

good question but here's a better one, are you hungry for a knuckle sandwich

Avatar

My favorite rabbit trail to drag the "life begins at conception! The moment the sperm meets the egg, a new soul is created!" crowd down is to start theorizing at length about identical twins, naturally occurring clones that divide... after fertilization. It always takes them off guard and completely derails the rant.

Does each twin have half a soul? Is there one full-souled twin and one soulless twin? Did you know that in a lab you can cut a freshly fertilized embryo in up to eight pieces and they will all develop completely? Would this produce seven extra lab-created soul or one lab-created Lord Voldemort split seven ways?

And then we move on to the opposite problem: what about naturally occurring human chimeras, a pair of fraternal twins that collide and merge into one organism with the DNA of both... after fertilization. Does a chimera have two souls? Two half-souls that don't match? Does one soul kill the other? Both sets of DNA survive, so what determines which soul lives and which dies? Does that make the surviving soul a murderer before it even develops a heartbeat, let alone awareness?

And given that both identical twins and human chimeras are psychologically indistinguishable from anyone else, what does a soul actually do? What are the theological implications, if your theory of soul-at-fertilization requires drastic soul weirdness when confronted with biological reality, but that soul weirdness ends up producing... no effect whatsoever?

Some of you really need to drop the “incremental change is worthless” shit and start appreciating the sacrifices of the activists who spent hundreds of years making the incremental changes that made this country livable for people who aren’t straight white Christian men.

I’ve seen a lot of posts about how “well Democrats could have prevented this but didn’t, so they’re just as bad as Republicans and voting is worthless”, and those posts do a massive disservice to all the people who have been fucking trying. Almost every issue I’ve seen people complain about Democrats not preventing, there’s a bill that would’ve fixed it that got stalled by Republicans in the House or Senate. Democrats tried to pass abortion protection just last month but Republicans in the Senate blocked it. Acting like Democrats totally have the power to fix everything and just aren’t doing it is not only blatantly untrue, but it’s massively damaging and spreads a message of helplessness and despair. That’s the last fucking thing we need right now!

You know why evangelicals have so much power despite being a minority of the population? Because they show up. They’re a dedicated, consistent voting block who show up to EVERY election, every town hall meeting, and every PTA meeting, vocally and en masse. And it took them 50 years, but now we’re seeing the results of all that grassroots organizing.

So yeah. There’s not going to be a revolution that just magically fixes every problem with this country. There IS going to be a huge number of people who wake up every day determined to make tiny changes - to their town, their community, their schools, their libraries - and they’re going to do that every day for 50 years, and if there’s enough of them, we’ll get there. It’s slow and it sucks and it’s not glamorous or exciting, but it’s how progress is made. So get off your high horse and join us, and maybe we can get there a little faster.

Sometimes incremental change is the only change possible, and I for one would much rather have incremental change that (even subtly and slowly!) does something rather than wasting time with infighting and squabbling amongst ourselves getting nothing done.

And yeah, it's not ideal. I know that. We all know.

Being told to go vote while having our rights taken away feels like shit. But I'd rather cast my damn vote than not cast it, and if we don't vote, the republicans are going to keep voting and keep winning because they show up and we don't.

And you can do more than that, if you've the capability. Donate to abortion funds and planned parenthood if you have the money! Go to protests if you know you can stay safe! Email your senators if you feel comfortable doing that! And if you can't do those things for one reason or another, then go vote--especially in the primaries so we get a better candidate next time.

Sitting on the internet being sad and feeling helpless is not going to help us.

I too am sick of being told to vote as my rights are stripped away. But it's better to do it than to not, because these days, us not voting is a win for the fascists.
