20 Years old just graduated from Vocational High School and becoming a college student Southeast asian Nationality(Indonesian) ethinicity(Chinese/Javanese) muslim but not religious. RIMBA RACER NEED MORE RECOGINITION

The two tropes I've never been able to understand (that often seem to go hand in hand) are "Die for Our Ship" and "Ron the Death Eater".

One is where, if a character has a canonical love interest, but the fan(s) prefer them with someone else, they will find a way to get rid of the canonical love interest. Ironically, despite the name, it's not that common to see the love interest actuall die? I mean, it does happen, but it's much more common to just have them be portrayed as a horrible person for no reason, in order to justify either them dumping the character that the fan wants "available", or them getting dumped instead.

The other is when a character who is typically a pretty decent person in canon, or who at worst has flaws but clearly isn't overly malicious, never mind evil, has their negative traits exaggerated to high heaven for little to no reason other than the person writing the story doesn't like them.

You see how these tropes tend to go together, and why I don't understand why they exist? Especially "Die for Our Ship" when it comes to fanworks. Because even if you don't consider the idea of polyamory as an option for the characters (and if you ask me, it should be considered more often than it is), you could just as easily just say that the characters mutually decided it wasn't working and broke up amicably - you don't need to make the love interest seem like someone that Satan took notes on.

Or you could do what I did and make them cousins. Which works because they already look like gender swapped versions of themselves so this actually gives an explanation as to why. And the two characters are free to be as gay as they want

My fancure Cure Apple!

Or my self indulgent wish for more lead Cures who aren't pink! Her eyes are supposed to be brown but the picrews i used didn't have that option. Orange/red is the next best choice since it's closer and complements the green. As Cure Apple her power involves temporary acceleration, firing magical seed pellets, and a Earth/Wood elemental attack called Caramel Pirouette.

So Cure Apple, aka Cara Melany in civilian, is a intelligent girl who wise beyond her years. A little bit too wise, since she seeks knowledge and tends to stick her nose in places she ain't got no business. After her father gets transferred they move to a new town. Cara is enrolled at a prestigous academy, but due to her loner quiet nature she ends up alone. But there are hidden secrets at her new school. With the helps if unlikely friends and a mysterious power, Cara must protect her new home from a supernatural revenge decades in the making.

Anonymous asked:

do you know anything about jewish surnames? i know with english surnames, they were originally a way of identifying a certain aspect of somebody (like their job/where they were born/physical features) but my last name is yadid so like. was my great great great great great(...and so on) grandfather just loved so much by his community that they gave him a surname that meant "friend" or is there a different reason fjdbfjsbfjdnfj

It really depends on the community!

Sometimes, the surname has to do with a person's job, such as Goldsmith or Abulafia (doctor).

Sometimes, the surname has to do with a person's place of origin, such as Tzarfati (from France) or Tehrani (from Tehran) or Toledano (from Toledo).

Sometimes it has do with a person's personality or physical feature, such as Tzadok (righteous) or Blinder (blind).

Sometimes it has to do with a person's parent, such as Jacobson, Raphaeli, and Moscowitz.

Sometimes it has to do with a person's lineage, such as Katz, Cohen, Kahn, and Zaks for Cohanim, and Loew, Luria, Katzenelnbogen, and de Leon for who claim descent from the Davidic Dynasty.

Surnames are not originally a Jewish thing, people were just known by their parents' names and sometimes also where they came from in ancient Israel, but didn't have permanent surnames that were passed down from parent to child, so what we consider today to be "Jewish surnames" are really the result of Jewish communities having to adapt to the customs of the various countries and regions they settled in.

It's possible your ancestor was beloved by his community, or his name was Yadid (or both obviously).

Gentiles,

If you think there's no antisemitism at all in your community, you're wrong.

If you think there's no antisemitism at all in your place of worship, you're wrong.

If you think there's no antisemitism at all in your school, you're wrong.

If you think there's no antisemitism at all in your workplace, you're wrong.

If you think there's no antisemitism at all in your family, you're wrong.

You don't notice it because you don't know enough about or don't care enough about antisemitism to notice.

Antisemitism usually isn't as obvious as someone blatantly saying "I hate Jews".

Learn how to identify it. Fight it. Or don't call yourself an ally.

Ironically, this applies to all forms of racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination.

One of the hardest things for any ally to realise, is that discrimination is hard to see if you don't experience it. It can be simple things like one manager always scheduling the Muslim/Jew for a Friday/Saturday shift, or worse, scheduling them for the late shift on Thursday/Friday, when their religion says that their day of worship begins at sunset.

It's asymmetrical dress codes (expectations) between men and women, and the increased cost it brings. Such as expecting women to wear tights, or heels. Both of which are prone to need replacement more often than shoes and socks. (let's not get into the cost of makeup either)

Hey can you not derail a post specifically about antisemitism?

not to be sappy or extra on main but I love the idea of like… romantic villainy. I wanna conquer and rule the world but I want my love there with me as we look over the lands we own, I wanna lowkey cuddle them on my throne while I command my minions, I wanna give evil speeches in my lover’s embrace… watch a hero fall in fear of my words while my dearest kisses me as I continue my extra ass monologue

i want art to feel EARNEST. this disgusting, near pornographic level of tongue in cheek meta humor is making me sick to my stomach. i don’t know how many more movies i can take about clever subversions and the movie winking at you to say “we know it’s a little silly, but…” where is the whimsy? why can’t we believe in the pretend you’ve created? why don’t you have enough faith in it? in my ability to believe?

My (scalding) hot take here is that this is a byproduct of artistic cowardice in the face of unrelenting criticism.

It doesn't just plague mainstream media; this kind of tongue-in-cheek self-referential, self-deprecating "I know this isn't that good wink wink" is all over indie media too.

So many creators are deathly afraid of being criticized for their creative choices, so terrified of an increasingly volatile online audience, that they feel compelled to sell themselves short on what their intentions are, just to plant that tiny nugget of plausible deniability: maybe if I create the illusion of not taking this all that seriously I'll be more insulated from criticism.

If the thing they're doing actually *is* good and becomes well-received, then they end up looking like accidental geniuses who had a moment of inspiration amid a sea of shitposts, and if the thing they're doing is panned they get to laugh it off and go "well I wasn't taking this that seriously to start with! You're the one who's making a big deal out of it!"

If no one thinks you're really trying or that you don't wholly and fully stand behind your creative decisions, then anyone who tells you that you could be doing your craft better looks like an idiot, and that's the whole point.

A lack of earnestness is the perfect "get-out-of-criticism free card."

"But fighting is wrong violence is not the answer!!"

Those cunts tried to kill a black guy in broad daylight A PUBLIC EVENT AT THAT and you think we just gonna SIT BY and let that happen??? Fuck outta here with that respectability politics bull!

So yall know the Republicans and Maga are gonna switch it up saying it's not racism or about race right?

Be prepared for Candace Owens to defend the white people in the boat.

She and they will say they got what they deserve but it's not racism. Just them being assholes cause they aren't even gonna say "it's just rich people or entitled people". They just gonna call them drunk assholes.

If I had a nickel for every time I fell in love with an animated tv show that was a spin off from a popular movie franchise, whose protagonist was a dorky slightly shaggy boy who was a genius mechanic/inventor and also that universe's equivalent of a horse girl, who was in love with a strong independent female with a love for weapons (who he'd had a crush on since he was a young teenager, and who found him annoying for the first part of their relationship) and had a team that he considered family, most of the plot switched between said family adventuring and helping people, and our protag being obsessed over by a deranged middle aged man with all of his screws loose, that simultaneously loved and hated the protag, had tattoos on his face and a red and black color scheme, and other than the deranged man, our main villain was a genius obsessed with the art of war, seeing it as a game to be played with our main cast, the show had several big villains and events that were never quite resolved because they got resolved in the movies, throughout the show we get to see our protagonist evolve from an unsure adolescent to a confident selfless leader, and the show does a great job of adding to the worldbuilding and expanding the already established universe of the franchise, and although it was technically a children's show, it managed to have very mature and complex storylines and themes, while also not taking itself very seriously and giving us a nice balance of fanservice and witty humor.

I'd only have two nickels

but it is weird that it happened twice.

Watch Dragon prince znd you will have three

I'm just gonna come out and say the controversial thing that's been weighing on me for months now.

I am visibly Trans and I experience transphobia on a regular basis. I have never once been misgendered or made to feel uncomfortable by a member of my Jewish community.

I am visibly Jewish and I experience anti-Judaism on a regular basis. I am consistently devalued, shunned, and othered by Queer people in Queer spaces and Queer communities because of my Jewish identity.

LGBTQIA+ people need to do better to accommodate religious minorities. Anti-Jewish sentiment due to Queer-based religious trauma isn't any better, kinder, or more moral than anti-Jewish sentiment due to white supremacy.

@unbidden-yidden There it is! Couldn’t have said it better myself
