good morning. takuto maruki is one of the most interesting and best written characters in p5r and the fact that so many people do him such a disservice is a terrible shame
maruki sees akira and sees himself and he sees how deeply he cares about akechi and sees rumi there. and he knows he cannot ever return to her even though he loves her so much just because all he wants is for her to be happy. and he sees this kid! who reminds him of himself and who harbors all this pain and who helped him for a year with a project just because he asked and who Never asks for anything for himself and he says "okay. i cannot make a world in which i am happy. but perhaps i can make one where he gets a chance to be" . AND IT'S BASICALLY THIS FOR EVERYONE! maruki is not a part of a perfect reality he is not included in his solution. he is the martyr he is prometheus bringing fire to humanity and being eternally punished for it he's trying to convince eve not to eat the apple and incite pain and suffering. he is saying perhaps if i cannot be happy then others can, and that will have to be enough. he's sad and he's lonely and he's desperate and he's [WRITTEN EXPLICITLY TO BE AKIRA'S MIRROR] just trying to make people happy so that no one else feels the way he does. And he gives up on living entirely at the end of his palace. there is no point to his continued existence because he's miserable and shocked when akira wants to save him. Why is he written to be cartoonishly evil!!! what about this says "omg he's writing shuake fic it fics in canon lol" and not that he is someone who is hurting so badly and the only way he can make sense of it is to try and ensure no one else feels that way ever again?
