If someone chooses to work with autistic people but doesn’t research or look up or even just freaking listen to what autistics are saying, I find it hard to believe that they actually care about autistic people.

don’t make fun of ocd rituals

additionally, don’t shame people with ocd for relapsing into their old rituals

don’t force people with ocd into triggering situations as a way to “”help””

don’t write ocd off as some “quirky behavior,” or say “i’m so ocd!!!!” because you like to be organized

don’t invalidate people with ocd by saying “but you have a messy room/home!” organization is one type of ocd, but not the only one

fucking respect people with ocd

Like, Slurs aren’t just “mean names” you know? Slurs are slurs for a reason. Slurs are words with long painful histories. Slurs are words weighed down with death, pain, sadness, loss. You can’t just throw them around to show how edgy you are, how much you don’t care. If you feel like you’ve just gotta toss out a slur to make your point then tbh you’re argument obviously isn’t strong enough to stand on its own. There is never an appropriate time to use a slur that doesn’t belong to you. If you’ve got no claim to a word then keep it out of your damn mouth

If someone is wearing makeup in the pool, don’t deliberately splash them. If someone has done their hair nicely, don’t mess it up. If someone in a t-shirt has scars on their arms, don’t ask them about it. If someone doesn’t want to get in the water, don’t push them. If someone still wants to wear jeans, don’t laugh at them for it. If someone has sweat patches, don’t point them out. If someone’s chest is obviously prominent, don’t stare. If you can see someone’s underwear/ binder, don’t comment on it. If someone is blatantly covering something up, don’t try to reveal it.

Not everyone can feel totally comfortable with the fact it’s Summer, don’t make them feel worse.

Since it’s coming to summertime in the northern hemisphere it’s time to let this be relevant

Remember, if they can fix it withing a minute or two, go ahead and tell them (e.g., “Hey, you have something in your teeth”). Otherwise, leave it alone.

This is important.

If you know someone with PTSD

Please be aware that one of the symptoms is hyper-vigilance. That means they have a high startle response and are hyper-aware, whether consciously or not, of changes in their environment.

It is NOT OKAY to repeatedly poke someone so you can watch them scream and flinch.

Or walk up behind them and scare them.

If someone you know has PTSD, despite how “funny” it may seem in the moment, it is not nice to activate their startle response on purpose. It does not feel good for us and can sometimes take a while to calm down.
