“…in addition to having a one-vote margin, this was not a radical left-wing legislature! There are plenty of moderate Dems here.

But the moderates, unlike (centrist) Dems elsewhere, still wanted to get stuff done and saw progressives as partners in making that happen.”

Rather than looking at the November numbers result and imposing some kind of self-limiting narrative about the scope of their mandate, MN Dems looked at their priorities and said "How much of the list can we get done?"

Turns out the answer was, "Almost everything."

Republicans did not worry about appeasing the sensibilities of Democratic voters when they rammed through Trump’s unqualified Supreme Court Justices, and then gutted Roe v. Wade.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS, whenever Dems have political power, instead of performatively agonizing about “reaching across the aisle” to compromise with Fascistic Republicans, or pontificating over & worrying about what Republican voters might think, they need to focus on one thing and one thing only: accomplishing ALL the good they can while they still can. Like Minnesota just did.

Dems need to be bold, and press through their base’s policies whenever they have the opportunity, not finger wag and tell us why the things we want are impossible and won’t ever happen.

“Pragmatically” “triangulating” and waiting for the “right” time, or waiting for a “better” time to do what is right only helps Republicans buy more time to entrench.

Time is a luxury that most poor and marginalized people simply cannot afford. Democratic politicians need to understand what MLKjr meant when he spoke of being wonderfully maladjusted, and the fierce urgency of now! and why he scornfully viewed moderate (centrist) whites as an even greater threat to progress than the KKK.

Minnesota is a solidly midwestern state. Hopefully if nothing else, Minnesota’s impressive list of recent accomplishments will belie the common DNC political “wisdom” that only conservatism-lite will work in middle America.

Yep. American history has proven that White privilege exists. If it didn't, then why was there segregation? They want schools to avoid teaching TRUE history so White people won’t feel bad. Wow, are you serious?

"Walkable city" is not "City where to have to walk everywhere."

"Walkable city" is.

  1. Sidewalks big enough to fit you, your stroller, your wheelchair, your guide dog, or anything else you need when you're getting from one place to another.
  2. Safe crosswalks frequent enough so you don't need to walk in traffic.
  3. Bike lanes to keep bikes out of foot traffic and car traffic.
  4. Accessible and affordable public transit.
  5. Cities where the essentials are close enough you can travel on foot (or in wheelchair)
  6. Cities where it's reasonable to be able to get from point a to point b without requiring you, yourself, to drive

People get so caught up in the "Walkable" part of the term and like to spout "Walkable cities are abelist because not everyone can walk".

Bitch. The modern city structure is abelist because not everyone can drive. And classist because not everyone can afford a car and it's pretty damn impossible to get a job if you don't have a car.

Walkable cities are cities where people can reasonably get from pointA to pointB without requiring a motor vehicle.

"But fae. Disabled people have issues using the paths in modern cities." Bitch abled people can barely use the paths in modern cities. That's kind of the fucking problem.

Also walkable cities have fucking benches. Not only for disabled people. But sometimes you just twist your ankle and need to sit for a moment.

"Put fae. If you have benches, homeless people will sleep on them."

Then get fucking housing for the homeless. Problem solved. They'll sleep in their nice warm homes instead of on the benches.

Thinking about how every major city (except fort worth) in Texas is blue, votes democrat in every election, is majority liberal/left-leaning. It's driving me insane okay. The majority of Texans live in or around the major cities. Land does not vote.

75% of Texans live in BLUE!!!

This makes me want to put a toaster in the bath tub okay bye!!!

You guys don't get it, like if you're not from Texas you don't get it. Most people here seem to just wanna keep their guns and like not have to pay high taxes, but thats were their ""conservative "" views end. Texas is a minoriry-majority state. Dallas and Austin have some of the biggest LGBT populations in the US. To even call Texas a red state is CRAZY TO ME. ITS GERRYMANDERING!

People really need to remeber that most red states are only red bcs of voter suppression. Time and time again looking into the actual political leanings of populations has proven that if every single American adult voted the republicans would never win another election anywhere and that's without getting rid of gerrymandering and the electoral college. This is why they're obsessed with making sure it's as hard as possible to vote, it's the only way they can stay in power and they know it. They've known it since the goddamn Civil War, fuck since the dawn of this country. It's always been about making sure the "right" people are in power by only letting the citizens who will vote for them have the ability to do do so.

And, incidentally, this is why Arizona has gone blue. Despite being a historically red state we have laws to protect people's right to vote and make it as easy as possible, and it's telling as fuck that the second the tide began to turn in 2020 the republicans here immediately started trying to implement voter ID laws and ban mail in votes. They KNOW they will lose if they let everyone vote and so they rig the game as much as possible.

This is part of why you shouldn't write off places like Texas and Florida and other red states bcs they keep voting red. The majority of their populations are NOT republicans and the only reason republican candidates keep winning is because they have suppressed voters at every step of the process, going so far as to throw out hundreds of thousands of votes in some areas in Texas on a bs technicality that would have likely meant Beto O'Rourke's victory over Greg Abbot.

It's fucking rigged. That's why they keep winning. So stop writing off these states as lost causes just because of their elections, damn near EVERY American state has a population whos majority leans left, they just continue to have their rights stripped away by corrupt leaders who know the only way to win is to cheat.

Capitalism will grind you down and replace you.

Stock buybacks should be illegal. It's manipulation. It takes profits and gives the money to shareholders, not employees.

Just a reminder in light of Roe V Wade being overturned:

thank you for reminding everyone there are any unwanted children already here .. that NEED loving homes .. how many prolife people have fostered or adopted children that are already here?

Here 👆 is a perfect example of the technology that can be used to keep dead people alive on tv. They can use any body and put a different face and audio to match the voice and mouth movements of the already executed. Don't think this is not possible, expand your thinking. 🤔

Besides the possible sinister uses this is a good example of the potentially fake political figure propaganda videos. Low cost deepfake ai-cgi is available to anyone now. We have reached the era where no image, audio, or video can be trusted on it's own recorded or live broadcast.

Montana can ban TikTok, but it probably can’t enforce it

Tech experts said the first-in-the-nation law is ‘technically incompetent’ and would require more data-gathering by companies, not less.

“On Wednesday, five TikTok creators filed a lawsuit claiming the ban infringes on their First Amendment rights and those of hundreds of thousands of TikTok users in Montana. The suit, which names Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen as defendant, says the state ‘can no more ban its residents from viewing or posting to TikTok than it could ban the Wall Street Journal because of who owns it or the ideas it publishes.’”

Some free-speech experts expect any TikTok challenge would prevail on First Amendment grounds. In 2020, federal judges blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order banning TikTok and the Chinese app WeChat, saying the government had provided “scant little evidence’ to justify a ban that would “burden substantially more speech than is necessary.’”

“’You can’t enforce this ban without creating a surveillance state that includes fine-grained location data and the ability to monitor and read people’s phones — the exact mirror of the Chinese surveillance state they’re afraid of to begin with,’ Red Queen Dynamics’s Wheeler said.”

Btw you can be intensely critical of the Democratic party and recognize that it is full of aged out of touch moderates who are refusing to meet the urgency of the moment,

and also recognize that voting for Democrats is extremely important because it allows things like the confirmation of Justices and prevents the literal fascist party from gaining more power and that harm reduction is an important end in itself

These things can coexist

Politics is a long game. Being disappointed and angry today does not obviate your responsibility to participate
