Funny little idea, but how about a little ficlet of Maedhros being blessed by the moon for some reason ( was thinking a non evil werewolf cause Tilion is also like a hunting guy and what hunter DOESNT love the idea of a hunting pack animal, but it can be anything)

Everyone is so lost on why Maedhros????? Huge Nerd and politics bro is blessed by the Moon??? Celegorm is thr favoured hunter, and Aredhel Literally wears white and probably hunts with a silver bow just like him and Nolofinwes whole moon themed thing

But no. Its Maedhros. Ginger, tall, passionate, firey spirit Maedhros. Maedhros, who honestly is more sun themed than anything, especially with his name meaning Red Dawn--

And then it clicks, probably for Aredhel first, then Ambarussa, with Celegorm shaking his head no in disbelief as it finally hits him.

Fingon snaps at them, frustrated and worried and just wanting to know what the hell is going on with his Dearest Friend. So Aredhel, with a shit eating grin, tells him.

Tilion blessed Maedhros cause he looks like his crush

watching the previous winners go through such gymnastics to NOT win is hilarious. Scott and Pearl both offering their lives to their partners, Pearl literally saying she doesnt want to win, Martyn and Grian being ridiculously careless in their traps and pvp, etc

Grians pvp skills were so much higher when he was defending Cleo, and then later on when he was trapping the Nether portal he just. Took so many hits, barely tried to hide himself at all. Martyn throwing the ender pearls straight up and attempting to climb a super defendable ladder was nooot super well thought out. Pearl and Scott were clearly being the backup for Scar and Gem respectively, only packing punches when it was helpful to their partners. 10/10 circus of extremely competent Minecraft players doing their best to be incompetent except they cant even do that right

"why does writing take so long" because 60% of it is coming up with a sentence, realizing that sentence doesn't work the way you want it to, and staring at a wall

This is why fellow writers CELEBRATE each other's successes for each completed work.

We know the amount of blood, sweat, and tears it can take to crank out a single story/chapter that takes a reader only minutes to consume.

I love you, fellow writers. You are amazing.

Apparently, my decision to be silly and make fanart of someone's writing (because I genuinely enjoy the story the person is writing and I was struck with inspiration upon reading a particular scene) has benevolent and wildly unforeseen consequences.

  1. I apparently gained a bit of control of the canon because said writer really loved the art and decided what I drew/draw is canon.

2. Writer put said artwork into the document of his story right below the scene, so now it's IN the story where people who read the story will see it (with a link to me)

3. He sent the artwork to all his friends and people he knows because he was so excited

Wholesome interaction and I watched him do all that in real time, good stuff. However...there are two more consequences I was notified of today...nearly a full week after I gave the artwork.

  1. Seeing the artwork caused his friends to become interested in reading and hearing about his story, which means more people are reading what he's writing and giving him critique on the story (which he actively asks for).
  2. Apparently, upon seeing the art, his writer friends got a sudden second wind to pick back up writing they'd abandoned for a few months. Because, I quote, "seeing that someone enjoyed {his} writing enough to take the time to make art of it gave them the motivation that maybe THEY can write something that will inspire someone to also create something." I have accidentally caused a writing frenzy among his writer friends and my silly idea to make art for someone has had a butterfly effect for people who I don't even know.

Uhh...I'm pretty sure there's a moral here but I am tired and have a great deal of emotions about this.

@echo-echo31 I’m too powerful

benevolent and wildly unforeseen indeed :))

Is it just me or are the new tumblr users convinced there's a penalty of some kind for using this site like it's meant to be used?

reblogs have always been in short supply for artists, sadly, but it's hitting the shitposts and even the cat pictures lately. Gotta keep getting the word out that reblogs are good and keep people posting new material that will be passed around for the next 12 years

They’re used to other social media sites, where the only equivalent of reblogging is straight-up content theft; so the idea that you can put someone else’s stuff on your page and have it not be a bad thing is a strange experience for them.

They’re likely also used to an algorithm recommending content based on what they hit “like” on, so they probably think that that’s how this works, too.

"That damn Fëanor & his sheer fucking HUBRIS!!"

-All of Arda, clutching to the Silmarils like their lives depend on it. bringing death & destruction to their lands, people & even children just to hold on to the Silmaril against the unstoppable force they KNOW the sons of Fëanor are. And the Valar who confessed they can't make something like Silmarils, and are after them so bad it's embarrassing-

I see this image floating around and if anyone knows the source, please let me know so I can properly credit them.

This piece of art lives rent free in my head because it reveals an astounding selfishness in the player base that reeks of entitlement. People miss the point on this so hard and I’ve seen people even get angry with Melina for wanting to kill you rather than thanking you.

Before you do this ending, she abandons you. The game takes it upon itself to have Melina talk to you and remove any ambiguity: she isn’t fulfilling her destiny for her mom. Through watching YOU enact your will upon the world, she became motivated to fulfill her destiny as her OWN person. She wants to do it because it’s HER decision, and she won’t allow anyone to deny her that, not Marika, and not even you.

When she pleads to not take the frenzied flame, she is very explicitly clear, one of the few times she doesn’t mince words, about the consequences. The world you create is one she fundamentally disagrees with, a philosophy that is abhorrent and nihilistic, and one she refuses to take part in. She does all of this because she believes that life deserves a chance, and even a struggling life filled with sorrow is still meaningful and beautiful. She respects and wholeheartedly believes in the sanctity of that life, and desperately wants you to respect that.

Taking the flame to “save” her, fundamentally disrespects her on every level. You disrespect her core beliefs, you reject her bodily autonomy which is super fucked up considering she doesn’t even have a body. You take from her a critical life choice that was hers to make. You kill everything she ever held sacred, including Torrent. And then people expect this to be a grand declaration of love, when in actuality, this isn’t an act of love, it’s an act of selfishness.

Are the Halls of Mandos Fair?

I started writing this in response to this post about how long Elves stay in the Halls of Mandos, but it got far too long and ranty so here it is separately/:

I don’t see why the Halls of Mandos would be any fairer than their lord.  I think those burned (or who would be burned) by a Silmaril are assessed as guilty, and those who aren’t, not so much.  Thingol was not burned. Idril probably had the chance to handle a Silmaril, and not be burned. Námo himself is not a shining example of fairness (he’s actually kind of fascinating because he isn’t!) Nor does he seem kind: I tend to think that kindness and pity are specifically Nienna’s job because Námo is bad at them.

in addition to the vader time travel AUs that i entertain so lovingly, i am known to be a luke time travel AU enjoyer, but specifically because i think luke is woefully underprepared to deal with the fact that darth vader was bullied in high school. like everything luke knows about his father revolves around vader being a nearly unstoppable murder machine that answers seemingly exclusively to the emperor, and the revelation in ESB that vader has personal desires is kind of shocking because of who vader is; he’s like this domineering, malevolent force of nature. a time travel AU forces luke to encounter the soft, fleshy variation of his father, who is at best asocial and cries frequently and learned the Beep Beep language so he could talk to robots because he thinks robots are cool. i won’t lie, luke is kind of hot shit in the rebellion. he’s an ace pilot and a sorcerer and then later the only guy that ever dueled darth vader and escaped with his life, and luke is fairly good with people, even though he’s a little on the temperamental side from time to time - anakin would gravitate towards luke (unknowing of the temporal circumstances) for a lot of the same reasons he gravitates towards padme, and quite frankly luke is just not ready for a guy who responds to “how’s your day going?” with a melodramatic sigh and, “do you ever feel ashamed that the stars can see you?”

luke, sweating: uh, why do you… why do you feel ashamed that the stars can see you?

anakin: they are beautiful, far away and high above. do you not think they pity you? do you not think the stars see you and see something worth nothing at all?

luke, quietly: holy shit

i was incredibly high the other night and lacked all ability to articulate a response to these tags other than THIS INDIVIDUAL SAID SOME REALLY GOOD WORDS GANG so shoutout to these tags for making me go FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH. this has unlocked my more niche opinions about anakin’s political beliefs, in that i truly think if you peeled the influence of someone who is very literally planning to be a maniacal despot sorcerer out of his life, anakin does not become less of an extremist, he just trips valiantly in the other direction. anakin is torn to shreds between a system that is deeply intent on ignoring the ways it failed him and his mother and everyone he knew as a child, and the rigorous defense of that system is clouded by an intense attachment to a guy who has a vested interest in making sure anakin buys into it, but i don’t think anakin is ever actually comfortable with what he believes and later what he does, which is key to the fact that a) luke senses good in him and b) vader is not supposed to be a villain that is supposed to be entirely evil. very key that he’s unsure about his ideals and his principles make no sense to him. i think if luke rocks up and offers a convenient third option that satisfies anakin’s burning desire to acknowledge his early life as, uh, horrible, that simultaneously provides him a way to actually articulate his discomfort with the republic, i actually genuinely think anakin would leap at that chance. i also think luke would be incredibly unprepared to see that level of investment in a guy who seems to think divine right of kings works in his actual time.

i've seen here on tumblr all kinds of ways writers (or people who want to fic rec just a single fic) share their fics from ao3 on here - sometimes just the link and maybe added the summery and/or the tags, other times a screenshot of the fic with a link to it, in some cases i think some writers even copy pasted all tags on here, etc.

and while you should share your fic however you want to, i hope you guys know you can just:

which takes less than a minute 👍

I need to live another twenty years purely to see what kind of bullshit the Tolkien estate gets up to with respect to The Silmarillion in 2044.

Context for non-dweebs: Unlike Tolkien's other well known works, The Silmarillion was published posthumously; Tolkien died in 1973, and The Silmarillion first saw print in 1977.

Though Tolkien had shown drafts of The Silmarillion to publishers during his lifetime, there are substantial differences between those drafts and the book that was actually published. It's been a matter of great interest – read: nerd drama – in the Tolkien fandom exactly how much of the published Silmarillion is really the work of J R R Tolkien, and how much of it is original authorship by his son Christopher.

The Tolkien estate has historically maintained that The Silmarllion is all J R R Tolkien, and that Christopher merely acted as a editor, because "by J R R Tolkien (edited by Christopher Tolkien)" is going to sell better than "by Christopher Tolkien (based on the work of J R R Tolkien)".

If The Silmarillion really is 100% J R R Tolkien's work, and Christopher Tolkien was merely an editor, then – since J R R Tolkien died in 1973 – the whole thing will enter the public domain on January 1st, 2044 in all life-plus-70 jurisdictions (i.e., most of the big ones, including the US).

If, however, any major part of the published Silmarillion constitutes original authorship by Christoper Tolkien, then the term of copyright would instead be calculated based on his date of death in 2020 instead, pushing its earliest possible entry into the public domain back to January 1st, 2091.

Thus, there exists the possibility that the Tolkien estate might be able to preserve their ownership of The Silmarillion by arguing that they've been lying the whole time about Christopher Tolkien not contributing any original authorship to the published work.

Would it work? Probably not – but it'd be fun to see them try!
