[Image Description: a gray cat sitting under a glass desk, where someone mostly offscreen appears to be doing homework. On the glass table next to the paper and right above the cat is a standard number 2 wooden pencil. The cat is desperately trying to grab the pencil from underneath the glass table, repeatedly trying to bite it from below and swiping at it to no avail, looking increasingly frantic as it tries to get the pencil, while one or two people laugh offscreen. End I.D.]

GALTx eNews: Thor And Loki Need You!
Thor and Loki are two to three year old Greyhound/Saluki crosses that joined the GALT family as strays via the Vernon Animal Shelter. They appear to be brothers and are bonded to the point where we can't bear to separate them. We need to find them a foster home, or a home that will foster them with the intention of adopting them, together.
When they came to us, they were both very shy of people. It took us a month to reach the point with Loki where our volunteers could put a collar on him. Thor is a bit braver, and Loki looks to him for reassurance. Thor loves a nice soft dog bed while Loki will lay anywhere. Thor sometimes even moves his bed at the kennel to be closer to Loki. They play nicely together and entertain each other. Both of them love to run in the yard. Together, they are silly and playful. When they are separated, Loki is insecure and nervous. It's hard to tell them apart, but Thor has a curly tail and Loki's tail has some darker streaks in the fur. Different color collars would make it easy to know who is who. We haven't yet tested them, but suspect they probably shouldn't live with cats.
Thor and Loki will both be uncertain and nervous at first in a home and they will need patience to make the adjustment. They have certainly been patient enough waiting for their chance at a foster home though so it's time to reward them. While two youngsters at once might sound like a lot, they have double the love to give. Please consider opening your home to them. Email fostering@galtx.org if you would like to help them take the next step on their journey home forever.

I want you to write for pleasure—to play. Just listen to the sounds and rhythms of the sentences you write and play with them, like a kid with a kazoo. This isn’t “free writing,” but it’s similar in that you’re relaxing control: you’re encouraging the words themselves—the sounds of them, the beats and echoes—to lead you on. For the moment, forget all the good advice that says good style is invisible, good art conceals art. Show off! Use the whole orchestra our wonderful language offers us! Write it for children, if that’s the way you can give yourself permission to do it. Write it for your ancestors. Use any narrating voice you like. If you’re familiar with a dialect or accent, use it instead of vanilla English. Be very noisy, or be hushed. Try to reproduce the action in the jerky or flowing movement of the words. Make what happens happen in the sounds of the words, the rhythms of the sentences. Have fun, cut loose, play around, repeat, invent, feel free.
