Am I the only one who thinks that hitting a kid and abuse are different things? Like, if I ever had a kid, I wouldn’t spank their ass raw or something like that. But a bop on the mouth or the ear pull or a smack upside the head? Yea. Those are behavior modifiers.

Except they’re not.

The studies done by the trained psychologists in this joke show that little kids don’t associate being hit with the thing they’ve done wrong. Very small children only understand consequences that are directly caused by the thing they did. Steal a biscuit, biscuit tastes good. Then for no reason mummy hit me. Very different to stole a biscuit, now no biscuit after dinner because I stole a biscuit.

And they also show that when a child is old enough to understand why they are being hit that non-physical punishment is equally as effective and less mentally harmful in the long run.

Do you know who benefits the most from hitting as a punishment? The parent. It gives a satisfaction rush. Parents do it because it makes them feel good.

Basically kids have two stages: too young to understand why they are being hit so physical punishment is useless for anything other than teaching a child that bigger stronger people can hit you whenever they like (Which sounds like the same lesson you would learn from abuse)

And the second stage is old enough to be reasoned with so many punishment options are available and you chose physical violence because it makes *you* feel better, which is an abusive action.

The only time a person should ever use violence against another human being, of any age, is to stop that person from being violent themselves.

Hitting a stranger is a crime. Hitting someone small who relies on you for food, love, and shelter should be as well. Don’t hit your fucking kid.

“behavior modifiers”???

Holy fuck, then you are ok with the police bopping on your mouth? Your boss pulling your ear? No, right? Just because you are adult?

Know what? Kids are people too. And your kids are not your property, just some smol humans you are supposed take care of. They deserve every inch of respect you do.

So my mom has been in the hospital in unbelievable pain all week and I'm like. What if I got people to read her smutty books. And she gets out of the hospital to hit like thousands of reads on Kindle

The problems with this plan;

She writes mostly m/f (well, m/m/m/m/f occasionally and everyone I know is a homosexual of some type)

I don't know how to market romance/smut

I don't know how to say "will you read my mom's porn" without it being weird

Basically if anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them

ok here are the books (i like the pen name lol)

points for buying/reading totally wrecked

bonus bonus points for drawing fanart and tagging her tiktok

she doesn't want this kind of promo but I'm doing this anyway bc she's my mom and she was at a 9 on the pain scale all week this week

i don't really know anything about romance (not my genre) but her other stuff are fun reads

"I don't know how to say "will you read my mom's porn" without it being weird"

WELL GOOD NEWS SIS I HAVE NO SHAME

READ MY MUMS PORN BOOK CAUSE SHE'S IN HOSPITAL

If you need context, earlier this year, CorridorDigital put out an "AI-made anime," where an AI filter was used to convert live action footage into "animation" (for the record, this is NOT animation. Animation is not a look, it's a process. By this logic, anyone using that Pixar Snapchat face filter is a Pixar animator). They touted themselves as "revolutionizing animation."

They were met with considerable backlash and criticism from the animation community. For one, they were taking frames from the real anime Vampire Hunter D to feed the AI. For another, the video was essentially a proof-of-concept for how "easy" and "inexpensive" it is to reduce animation to an automate-able process.

Well, Corridor did not learn anything, because they released a sequel... In the middle of a strike against the use of AI to replace/exploit/profit off of the labor of workers in the film industry. Corridor assured they hired their own artist to train the AI, but remember that industry discourse like this is interconnected. They may not be stealing art, but any studio that sees this and goes 'wow, it's that easy' will. Corridor's also boasting about AI democratizing animation-making. Now anyone can make animation in their bedroom with nothing but a camera and a free software! Except, anyone could already make animation in their bedroom with nothing but a camera and a free software. I made animation in my bedroom with nothing but a camera and a free stop-motion software when I was 10 years old.

Anyways, work like this is exactly what studios hellbent on exploiting workers want to see. It doesn't matter if it's cool or fun. Remember that AI discourse is currently the frontlines of the labor crisis in the film industry. Corridor putting out this video as "fun education" in the middle of an strike is so incredibly irresponsible and disrespectful.

This will be amazing, though!

Just think about it:

We are in the era after it caused SO MUCH, and caused so many sites to put in blocks and other restrictions to stop it from scraping everything

If they are forced to wipe their entire dataset then they won't be able to get even a fraction of it back!

Not only that, but they would be forced to get permission of the owners for everything they use. Which would IMO, actually kill most of the issues with AI and actually make the technology into something actually useful.

I’m trying not to be a huge dick about it but I got a “but what about us q-slurs who are traumatized by the bad words?” on my slur reclaimation post and so I’ve made a handy guide

1. You are being called the slur.

A. If it is with malice, I am sorry for this experience, however, this situation is not at all what I was talking about.

B. If it is with affection or as a joke from other LGBTs, and it makes you uncomfortable, ask them to stop. If they don’t, they’re a dick for not respecting your boundaries.

2. You are being “forced” to see other people use the word for a larger community

A. If it bothers you then you are probably not the “fag community” to which they are referring, then. In a post? Block. Blacklist words. Block tags. Walk away. Avert your eyes. You don’t vibe with “queer community” then refer to it as LGBT. You make it sound like a “someone saying Happy Holidays means I can’t say Merry Christmas anymore” situation. You don’t have to use any words you don’t vibe with. Hate to say Dyke March or Dykes on Bikes? Don’t go to the march. Avoid the bikes.

3. You are being “forced” to hear other people use the word for themselves

A. I mean this with love and respect…suck it up. If it is so deeply triggering, remove yourself. Leave the situation. Block. Blacklist words. Block tags.

In a conversation about reclaimation, I am sorry, but you only get to decide how people refer to you, no one else. If someone else’s use upsets you, YOU have to do something about it, not them. You do not, under ANY circumstances, get to ask someone not to use dyke or fag or queer or tranny for themselves. You don’t get to ask someone not to use it/its. You don’t get to tell someone to tuck or bind because it gives you second-hand dysphoria. You do not get to decide how someone else is queer.

If being around them is that debilitating, you need to take steps to insulate yourself.

On the curate your own experience website, you should know how to do just that. There are so many guides out there. And to the complaint that “now” Pride uses all these slurs which has made Pride hostile to you, I’d invite you to crack open a book, but perhaps what you find will be too upsetting

[ID: 3 photos of old marches and protests. The first shows people marching, holding up a banner that says, “queer nation: get used to it."

In the second photo, people are holding handmade signs that say, “cocksuckers for muffdivers”, “go girls go," “we like dykes," and “fags in support of dykes."

The third photo shows many people holding a large black and pink banner that says, “international dyke march, NY, 25 June 1994." End ID.]

Mechanic: So I'm thinking this'll take a whole week at the shop to fix, honestly

My Guinea Pig Soul: A wheek?! Wheek wheek wheek wheek wheek wheek wheek!!!!!

My Orangutan Mind: Calm down, he merely said a week, meaning 7 days time...

Mechanic: So did you get all that or

Me: Hang on, hang on, my guinea pig and orangutan haven't finished yet.

Or water fountains, public washrooms, outdoors tables, etc, etc

Notice how removing seating doesnt actually prevent people from sitting it just makes them uncomfortable and makes public spaces more hostile it doesnt actually work at controlling their behavior not till a pig comes along anyways and they'll harass a homeless person/teen whatever they're sitting on.

So it turns out that ChatGPT not only uses a ton shit of energy, but also a ton shit of water. This is according to a new study by a group of researchers from the University of Colorado Riverside and the University of Texas Arlington, Futurism reports.

Which sounds INSANE but also makes sense when you think of it. You know what happens to, for example, your computer when it’s doing a LOT of work and processing. You gotta cool those machines.

And what’s worrying about this is that water shortages are already an issue almost everywhere, and over this summer, and the next summers, will become more and more of a problem with the rising temperatures all over the world. So it’s important to have this in mind and share the info. Big part of how we ended up where we are with the climate crisis is that for a long time politicians KNEW about the science, but the large public didn’t have all the facts. We didn’t have access to it. KNOWING about things and sharing that info can be a real game-changer. Because then we know up to what point we, as individuals, can have effective actions in our daily lives and what we need to be asking our legislators for.

And with all the issues AI can pose, I think this is such an important argument to add to the conversation.

I often think issues like this are a result of “The Cloud,” and by that I mean the propagation of this notion that data and the internet exist out in the ether somewhere and not like...on someone else’s hard drives which are housed in hundreds and thousands of huge warehouses which require climate control.

Most humans already have a LOT of magical thinking about computers, and I really wish we spent more time teaching not just basic computing skills (how to navigate an interface), but basic INFRASTRUCTURE knowledge. When you think of it as chatting with Jeff Bezos’s huge garage full of nerd hardware, it’s easier to make the logical leap to say “hey i wonder what kind of resources it takes to keep all these hard drives from overheating...?”

We need to systematically think of internet usage, data centers and computer processing as things that emit CO2, use water and are dependent on dirty mineral mining for chips and batteries. Higher resolution streaming? More cloud storage? More AI? That all means more CO2 emission, more water consumption and more mining. This kind of ‘progress’ means the world burns faster.

In the coming years we might see a rising awareness of this at the individual level (”don’t leave your music streaming when you leave the house” etc) and while that’s not entirely useless, it’s important to remember that the problem is systematic. Tech companies are deliberately obscuring the pollution of their products from us, driving our ecosystems towards mass extinction for a profit in the same way other industries are.

who fucking reblogged this as ben ten

I AM SO FUCKING TIRED OF THIS AI SCRAPING BULLSHIT, STOP IT YOU MOTHERFUCKERS.

What!!!?!?!????!?!?? No way, is this reall because if so I need to know!! All my stuff goes on Google docs, for most of us that's what we use to share and edit like WTF

@27fanficlilies and others…

This is the exact reason why I don't write stuff on cloud-based softwares like Google (Google Docs) or Microsoft Office (Word online) or even Pages (iOS/Apple). Everything typed on them is analysed by a computer (especially during grammar correction and/or translation) and then used for the company's own purpose (nowadays AI training).

ALWAYS write on third-party softwares or apps if you like to write on your phone (like I do). As for sharing your work with others, first, turn it into a PDF file (pdf can easily be edited too these days) and only then share it through Google Drive or OneDrive.

Helpful tips: Using Word is actually alright as long as it isn't its online version. If you have the software installed on your PC, use this version rather than the one running through the Internet.

Here are also some writing apps I use(d) to write on my phone:

  • Werdsmith
  • MyStory
  • Grammarly (works also on PC)
  • Ulysses Mobile (works also on PC if I remember well)
  • Fortelling - Writer Tools

‼️MISINFORMATION‼️

Google is not *currently* scraping data from Google docs to train their writing AI. More information on what it's doing can be found here -https://www.laptopmag.com/features/google-docs-ai-is-it-safe-im-a-novel-writer-and-tech-journalist-lets-talk

You should still consider moving your stuff because that may change, but as of posting Google is not training Bard on documents hosted in their cloud servers.

Also, Grammerly is *literally* an AI- powered writer and is *absolutely* is training their stuff on your work so run screaming from that @lucy-ashton
