Why is there a picture of a lady for a gentlemen’s dance club?

Have you ever experienced a patron who will hide their personal belongings so they can come back to 'em the next day? Currently dealing with someone who hides textbooks, thermos, calculator, etc under workstations/cubbies. #ArizonaStateMusicLibrary

We deal with this all the time.  As a relatively isolated campus with a strong community reliance on our “Honor Code,” students frequently leave their stuff on desks to “reserve” the spot while they go get food or something.

The highlight of finals season is handling students who leave their computers in the library and then come back to find them stolen (we’re a government document depository and have to be open to public, so literally anyone could be wandering around).

But our students are also allowed to leave pretty much whatever they want (except food) on their thesis carrels, so I don’t think we ever came up with a way to combat it.

I was never that worried about people leaving their own stuff (it would usually end up at the desk thanks to the custodians anyway), and a lot more worried about the students hiding reserve books in the normal stacks so they could find them later.

Students ask us ALL the time if we can watch their stuff while they go get food/go to the restroom etc. We always say know as we won't be responsible for their stuff if something happens. So, they leave it anyway and always seem so surprised when it's gone... We haven't really found a way to combat this. Any suggestions?

A young reader is earning kudos after 'fessing up to the Toronto Public Library in a handwritten note that he inadvertently damaged a borrowed book when he fell asleep while reading. “I am sorry that a page ripped when it fell out of my bunk when I fell asleep reading.
