“But longing is momentum in disguise: It’s active, not passive; touched with the creative, the tender, and the divine. We long for something, or someone. We reach for it, move toward it. The word longing derives from the Old English langian, meaning ‘to grow long,’ and the German langen—to reach, to extend. The word yearning is linguistically associated with hunger and thirst, but also desire. In Hebrew, it comes from the same root as the word for passion. The place you suffer, in other words, is the same place you care profoundly—care enough to act.”

Susan Cain, from Bittersweet: How Sorrow and Longing Make Us Whole (Crown, 2022)

for the low low price of reading a single poem you too can feel entirely alienated from everyone within your physical reach & yet completely connected to the unchangable truth of shared human experience

goodnight and don’t worry about any mistakes you made today. come up with tangible ways to do better next time, and keep your head up.

One of the worst parts of current internet culture is that it makes good old fashioned complaining so difficult. I don’t wanna cancel anyone or bully anyone, I’m not trying to form a hate mob I’m not calling anyone out, i just wanna bitch about something. Because complaining is fun, good for you, even. Is that too much to ask? Where is the room for shooting the shit?

i loooove the turning of the seasons i complain about hot weather because well i dont feel so good when it's hot outside but the beauty of late august into september cannot be denied and this time of letting go of summer and anticipating autumn is so unique and special. my opinion

holding my own face in my own hands and screaming “there is no connection without an open heart! you must be brave! you must be honest! you must be true!” in the mirror

A part of being an adult is living with regret and not allowing it to consume you. The older you get, the more mistakes you’ve made, opportunities you’ve missed, people you’ve disappointed. And every day you have to remind yourself to be kind and forgiving of yourself. You accept and love the you from the past and understand that it’s all a part of the process. Then you move on and live your best life, knowing now as old as you feel today, you’ll never be this young again.
