Academic Rivals AU: After being sorted into Slytherin, Harry learned to put his cunning to use and followed the laws of survival of the fittest. Most people knew not to get in his way, but that Granger girl from Ravenclaw always glared at him when he passed her in the hallways. Little did he know that he had beat her by one point in DADA class and that it would be the start to years long rivalry. 😏

Mutation, it is the key to our evolution. It has enabled use to evolve from a single-celled organism into the dominant species on the planet. The process is slow, normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few hundred millenia, evolution leaps forward.

Just surfing your fics and noticed that Let the Dark In is getting a lot of kudos. I was wondering what the fan engagement is like now compared with when you were writing in 2018-2019 (the 'Manacled' and 'All You Want' era) since dramione and Fanfic is a lot more widely consumed. More comments or less? More engagement with WIPs? Tysm for sharing your stories with us!

Yeah... I wasn't really wasn't expecting it to get such a large audience, part of the reason I decided against committing to an update schedule when I started posting was because I thought it would reduce interest and take some of the pressure off, but that has not been the case.

The fandom has definitely gotten a lot bigger than when I started. Overall I'd say engagement is just generally a lot higher, but it's hard to compare the present to when I was writing Manacled and All You Want because I was a newcomer back then and most people reading those stories were reading them just because of the tropes, not because I was the author. Let The Dark In is different because it's a more unusual trope and I have some name recognition. I don't do any precise metric tracking because that would involve a lot more personal discipline than I possess, but comparing my best recollection of All You Want's engagement (which was my initial success) with Let The Dark In currently, I'd say that generally engagement has risen at around the same rate that the fandom has grown. But my readership now is very different from my readership back then because there's a relationship that's formed with many readers who have read and/or followed my other stories, because of that they know me and my story telling style more, and so they engage differently because of that.

Draco couldn’t think about anything else as she leaned down, her nose brushing against his and her lips so close to his that it was driving him mad. “I wasn’t the one stomping out of rooms because I was jealous, now was I?”

It took him a few seconds to actually process what she had said and he couldn’t help but let his face scrunch up in disgust. “I’m not fucking jealous of Macmillan.”

Hermione grinned. “Could’ve fooled me, Malfoy.”

“You’ve been hanging out with Pansy far too much.” He huffed out and moved back, but her hands quickly cupped his face and he could not help but melt into the embrace.

“No, Malfoy, I just have eyes and you’re not very subtle.” Hermione replied but her smile softened. “It’s cute that you get jealous.”

“I wasn’t not jealous.” He grumbled.

“So, you threw a tantrum for a different reason?” She asked him with her brows raised expectedly.

He gritted his teeth. “I didn’t throw a tantrum, Granger.”

“Hmm, of course not.” She murmured, her thumb rubbing gentle circles on his skin.

“Is there a reason I should be jealous of Macmillan?” He retorted, training his voice to sound indifferent but that didn’t stop the small snort she let out.

“You Slytherins take this whole green think quite seriously, don’t you?” She commented, pressing her lips together to supress her smile.

Just a friendly reminder that I would never have thought it was possible to go back and remake my previous work, uncovering lost art and forgotten gems along the way, if you hadn’t emboldened me. Red is about to be mine again, but it has always been ours. Tonight we begin again. Red (my version) is out now.

I’m gonna go off on this scene for a hot second, because this doesn’t get nearly as much attention as the talk with his mom and honestly this one hit me harder. So I’m gonna talk about why this scene is so fucking important to me.

The first line. Right out of the gate. “How long have you known?” Not, “how long have you been…you know…”, “how long have you known.” This is coming from a character we have seen (unintentionally, but still) commit homophobic microaggressions on screen at least twice now with many more implied, that difference is important.

Then when Simon answers, his response emphasizes the time they spent together when he didn’t know (Four years eating dinner together). I was sure, I was so sure his next line was going to be “why didn’t you tell me”. Because that’s how it goes right? The onus is always on the queer person, it’s always down to us. But that’s not what he says. He says “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have missed it.”

I don’t think I can put into words what hearing an apology in that moment did to me. I really can’t, I’m pretty sure I stopped breathing for a second. And then he says “All those stupid jokes…”

He is taking responsibility for his actions. He is acknowledging that he was wrong and he is apologizing for the hurt he, however unknowingly, caused his son. This is so rare. Because the key here is, not only is this a father-son relationship, which is always more difficult because men in our society have been conditioned to never be “touchy-feely”, it’s also a parent-child relationship.

Simon is still a teenager. His father has spent 17 years being the one responsible for Simon’s care; at this point the parent is the one in the equation where the majority of power still sits. For a parent to acknowledge to a child who is still not fully an adult that they were wrong, especially when it’s a father when men are conditioned to never give ground or “show weakness” over things like this, just. It doesn’t happen.

And even when Simon gives him an out he refuses to take it. Then he makes sure Simon knows that he is loved unconditionally, and reinforces it with physical affection. And it’s not a Manly Shoulder Pat either, this is a proper full-body hug followed by a kiss on the cheek.

And after a moment of awkwardness, he actively reaches out and shows interest in engaging in the queer aspect of Simon’s life by offering to sign up to Grindr together. He’s gotten it wrong (in the most adorably dad way possible), but the point is he made the effort. He didn’t just leave it at letting Simon know he loves him, he recognized that this is an on-going presence in his child’s life and he commits to continuously being involved with and acknowledging this aspect of his son.

I am someone who has Simon’s life. I am from an upper-middle class white family with two liberal straight parents who were high school sweethearts, and I have one younger sibling. My first car was even a used Subaru station wagon, I could not make this up. This is the moment I wish I could have with my parents.

They knew/suspected I was queer for years before I finally came out to them, but they didn’t know what to do with asexuality. They were fully prepared for me to be a lesbian and I still managed to blindside them. It was completely unexpected and they hadn’t heard of it so they didn’t know what to do about it. And we are the pinnacle of a WASP stereotype, so all of us suck at talking about our feelings. So while my parents never rejected me, they never tried to “fix” me, and they don’t really drop hints about me “settling down one day”, they also never talk about it with me. I assume because they don’t know how to and they don’t want to misstep.

We will have entire conversations about queer issues with no acknowledgement whatsoever that I am part of the group that issue pertains to. They have never tried to talk to me about what asexuality is, asked me to explain it, or asked about how to be involved in that aspect of my life. Which is unusual for them, both have always taken an active interest in both of their children’s activities. And there’s only so many times I can be the one to talk about the elephant in the room because it’s fucking exhausting

So yeah. This scene, this moment, hit me like a semi truck. Because god do I want that in my life.

I’m crying

I really loved this scene because it wasn’t his dad saying “how long have you been lying to me” but instead “how long have I been hurting you.”

Too often queer people are treated as if we lied or tricked people while we were in the closet, so this scene meant so much to me.

Draco: Granger.

Hermione: Hm?

Draco: That’s my scarf.

Hermione: So?

Draco: And that’s my shirt.

Hermione: Well, even your personal space is yours, but I’m still in it, so….I don’t get your point?

Draco: *looking down at Hermione who’s head is in his lap* Touché.

Damian and Raven’s first meeting in my Fantasy DC AU!

(Also, this is my first ever comic(?) I’m posting, so please don’t be too harsh with it, There’s a deeper story but I didn’t want to make this scene so plot heavy.)
It took me forever because I kept changing the dialogue, and I’m not sure if I’ll continue this… but if you’re curious to see who wins…..

There are just days where Damian disappears. The Titans learn to read the signs, and where to find him over time. They also now have a group chat filled with these birds napping.

Ladies and Gents, I’d like to introduce: Mar’i Grayson ✨💜. Pretty sure you guys already know about her, but for the people who don’t; she is (canonically) Starfire and Robin’s (from the Teen Titans) future child.

I’m pretty sure you guys noticed how ‘different’ Rae-Rae looks here, and that’s because she is from the Earth that Mar’i was born in. Unfortunate events occurred back in their own home, and has lead to Raven bringing Mar’i to a ‘safer’ place. It is similar to theirs but not quite the same. Because here; her parents are only college students. (You’ll learn more about that in the future updates) Now that these two unexpected guests have arrived, what are the heroes of this Earth going to do about it?

I hope you guys liked it. The series of illustrations pertaining to this story arc will be posted accordingly after my short break, as will a few other “off the script” scenes 😉 so you can look forward to that. Oh! And more importantly — I need help with deciding what the title is gonna be. If you guys have any suggestions, please leave them in the comments below.

Lastly, I’d like to thank @mrevaunit42 for helping me with dialogues ^_^

(Side Note: I forgot to mention it here – this won’t be continued in the typical comic fashion. Instead it’ll be a series of illustrations that will all-together make a story)
