Oh yeah, for some reason, there are people out there who think that Ivermectin, a drug created to kill parasites that is used almost exclusively to treat animals, is some kind of miracle cure that fights against COVID… despite COVID being a virus, not a parasite.

So, basically, they’re taking horse deworming tablets that make them literally shit out their insides, rather than get vaccinated.

The thing is? this kind of behavior is not only nothing new, it’s just an expansion of previously existing alternative medicine treatments into Covid.

Seriously, there are some absolutely horrific alt-med options out there right now and people are only noticing them now because of Covid.

Ivermectin has been approved by the FDA as a treatment for covid-19 in clinical trials. This is because the limited testing that has been done shows some promise that it can help.

In vitro testing of ivermectin has shown a 99.8% reduction in cell-associated viral RNA within a 24 hour span. So, 1v1, ivermectin is kicking major ass.

Clinical trials have been limited and inconclusive but more research is warranted.

However, there are doctors out there prescribing it for patients and they are seeing a great deal of success. Just because some Jethros are being dumbasses doesn’t mean the medication doesn’t show signs of actually helping people fight covid.

Again, Joe Rogan used it as part of a treatment plan, NOT as the ‘cure’ for covid, and he now tests negative for the virus. He used it in conjunction with z-pack and other supplements.

Oscar de la Hoya is twice vaccinated and he’s now in the hospital in bad shape.

In short (too late), people need to do their research and find what works best for them. And the media needs to stop obfuscating the facts with fear and clickbait.

That very site says Ivermectin is NOT approved by the FDA to treat covid, and says that more trials are needed because there’s a low level of certainty it is effective. Remember hydroxychloroquine? That was touted as the likely drug that would help with covid too but it flopped after it was proven ineffective, you don’t hear of anyone taking it anymore. It also had a host of nasty side effects. It’s not fearmongering to state the known risks and side effects. I’m not saying don’t try it in actual clinical trials, (go ahead and offer yourselves as guinea pigs for those trials, you can probably make $ doing that) but don’t go nuts thinking it’s a miracle treatment lest you be disappointed. And for heaven’s sake don’t buy it OTC because you don’t know what’ll interact with it and definitely don’t buy it at a tack and feed store.

And even then the dosage for humans and horses would be different.

There's a *really* big difference between in vitro studies and clinical trials. In vitro studies serve as a preliminary "it does something" check. They do NOT tell you the drug will work when taken as medication. They bombard cells from African green monkey kidney (Vero cells) with very high doses of the drug just to see if there's any effect. Does that mean it will work in humans? In the same doses, it would kill you. In lower doses, so far studies make it appear to do what you'd expect of a horse dewormer for treating covid: nothing.

The same shit happened with hydroxychloroquine. Chloroquine (very similar drug) was being studied for SARS treatment a little over 15 years ago, and was getting great results on monkey cells in vitro. Yet it did terribly on a study done on human cells in vitro. When covid swung around, scientists were revisiting this type of drug because of those in vitro studies, but lo and behold, it didn't do well in clinical trials.

Don't buy a drug just because it works in insanely high doses on monkey kidney cells in a petri dish folks.
