Hello!

@ephe-y

all of the above

I’m making a version without the puzzle peice because the history behind that symbol is rather offensive.

Reblogging this version, sorry about the first time everyone!

rereblogging bc i was made aware that the puzzle piece is not an okay symbol and i deleted my reblog but here it is and i wanna make sure everyone knows i fuckin hate autism speaks and i support all my autistic peeps and neaurodivergent peeps

Don’t use the puzzle piece to represent Autistic people. Also Autism Speaks is abusive and you should not support them.

I like to think that after Sullivan’s had Iruma-kun for a few months/ gotten a deeper understanding of the kid’s abandonment issues he goes back to the human world like “yo what the FUCK?” and the Suzukis never sleep well again

izuki was never seen again

Literary Movements

Literary movements are distinguished by shared traits, styles, subjects, or genres in various literary works. Scholars of Japanese literature tend to sort authors and their works into neat categories called “literary schools.” This is similar to the Western literary movements (romanticism, realism, transcendentalism, modernism, etc.), but Japanese literature has it’s own movements as well. Some authors works could fit into multiple categories, but generally there is one literary school they are most associated with. Here is a list of a few of the Japanese literary movements and the Bungou Stray Dogs authors who belong to them:

Romanticism: emphasizes the emotional side of human feelings; Romantic literature in Japan had a direct influence from European literature and emphasized the importance of the individual and of freedom

  • Mori Ōgai
  • Higuchi Ichiyō
  • Izumi Kyōka
  • Edogawa Ranpo (Dark Romanticism)

List of spin-offs that Durarara really needs right now

Because I felt like writing this.

Shizuo Heiwajima Does Not Like Violence: the slice of life series revolving around Shizuo, Tom, Vorona and their work. A lot of ridiculously epic violence (ironically) and action entwined with coffee-shop hangouts and sweet moments of friendship. Some Kasuka Shizuo moments. Celty has very frequent cameos.

Notice Me Senpai: Aoba’s POV with a lot more bisexual romantic comedy (Kururi or Mikado and never getting a break from sexual arousal because he is with at least one of them pretty much 24/7) and dark humor.  Also, addressing his abuse. (I did a post about this spin-off somewhere…)

Gas Mask: The adventures of the ever elusive Shingen Kishitani. Watch him decapitate and cut open supernatural beings, deal with his kinky son, make very problematic and morally questionable decisions and kick some corporate ass. I want this soooo bad. OMG, please!

I F-ed Up: A compilation of Izaya getting his ass kicked (as he deserves) throughout the years. Some segments of Izaya eating alone, pretending to be a girl online, playing board games alone and having stalker pictures of the people he wishes were his friends. Maybe some sort of interview-like segment of people talking shit about Izaya with their face and voice distorted for privacy (but we all know who they are anyways). At the end of every episode, there is a short segment of Izaya talking to Celty’s head because that’s the only living thing that can tolerate him.

Sushi Days: a sitcom about our favorite sushi restaurant and their employees. For those of you who’ve seen Wagnaria, just imagine that but with less moe and more Russian mafia (or maybe just imagine that the staff are made up entirely of Souma, Satou and Inami). Foreshadowing some human meat in the sushi, but definitely not in Russia Sushi. Once in a while, there is a small mafia hick-up that needs to be taken care of, like a field trip or a sleepover but with guns.

Ikebukuro Cosplay Club: Kujiragi and Erica hanging out and doing cosplay while different characters come in and out of the scenes, mentioning some Ikebukuro chaos or another. Erica probably doing some meta shit and discussing anime tropes while choosing cosplay. Kujiragi sometimes gets called out on all the shit that she’s caused and has to pay for it one way or another.

Smile: A sweet shoujo series about Ruri and Kasuka. The punchline is that they don’t move their facial muscles even once throughout the whole series. A lot of Yuigadokusonmaru fluff. Kasuka getting love advice from Shizuo (omg, no but yes). Ruri healing from her emotional trauma.

I i just wanted to ask about this beast novel everyone is referring to because Im really interested and have no idea if I can read is somewhere in English.... Can you help me? Or any kind os bsd novel tho.°^°

The BEAST light novel everyone is talking about hasn’t been translated by anyone yet as far as I know, but you can read a fantastic synopsis with excerpts by looking-for-stray-dogs here. FIFTEEN is the same, not translated but you can read the synopsis with excerpts here.

If you want to read the other light novels then here are the links for them:

Dazai’s Entrance Exam: translation by chendaere.tumblr.com is in progress. The translation is just missing part of chapter 3, chapter 4, Intermission Part 2, and the Epilogue. (And something seems to be wrong with their tumblr because I can’t click the “Keep reading” and see their translations, so I will provide a link to my Google Document of it here). Another translator, @dazaimackerelosamu, picked up the translation at the beginning of Chapter 4 and has finished translating the rest (@lordnetanyahu was the one who informed me their continuation of the translation). I have put both translations into the Google Document.

Dazai Osamu and the Dark Era: translation by nkhrchy.tumblr.com is complete. You can find the masterpost here.

The Untold Story of the Founding of the Detective Agency: translation by snowyeskque.tumblr.com is in progress. The translation has gotten to Chapter 1 Part 2. You can find their translation masterpost here.

55 Minutes: Someone started translating it, but their Tumblr account seems to have been deleted, so the translation isn’t likely to continue. I have a Google Document where I kept the first 4 parts of their translation that you can find the link to on my Links page: https://bsd-bibliophile.tumblr.com/links

Another Story (Gaiden): translation in progress by ranposama.tumblr.com. They are also in charge of translating the manga version of this light novel. You can find the light novel masterpost here, and the manga masterpost here.

Gogol the Clown

A member of the decay of angels, one of the few characters in the story we have seen follow Fyodor willingly rather than being mind controlled or a sycophant, an immediately loud and attention grabbing character. Nikolai Gogol has an incredible impact on the plot, despite only being around for a short time. There is a lot of deeper themes and philosophy to unravel in this engimatic character. So let’s answer Gogol’s question, just who is he?

Thank you to all who participated! There were 404 participants in this survey.

Of the 404 participants, 87.9% have read Japanese literary works by BSD authors and only 12.1% had not. Please remember that this survey was only advertised on a Bungou Stray Dogs literary blog, so these results do not reflect the BSD Fandom as a whole.

Readers read these literary works in 20 different languages. 69% of readers read the works in English, 13% in Japanese, 5% in Spanish, 2% in German and French, and the remaining 9% were reading Japanese literature in the following languages: Chinese, Czech, Finnish, Georgian, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Most people have read a novel, short story, and/or poem by the Japanese BSD authors, but not many have read the essays and plays.

Dazai Osamu is the author with the most readers. In 2nd place is Nakahara Chūya, 3rd place is Akutagawa Ryūnosuke, and 4th place is Edogawa Ranpo.

No Longer Human by Dazai Osamu is the top favorite literary work, followed by The Setting Sun by Dazai Osamu, “Hell Screen” by Akutagawa Ryūnosuke, and Kokoro by Natsume Sōseki.

The top three authors people want to read next are: Edogawa Ranpo, Nakajima Atsushi, and Dazai Osamu. Right behind them are Akutagawa Ryūnosuke, Yumeno Kyūsaku, Oda Sakunosuke, and Natsume Sōseki.

Take a look at the images above for more details.

If you want to read more Japanese literature or are interested in a specific author, you can check out my Online Library and the BSD Recommended Reading List. There you can find over 200 literary works by Japanese authors as well as articles and videos, all free and ready to download.

There was a comment section, so if you are interested in reading the responses I have included them under the cut:

Hey y'all why are writers always cold?

...why?

They're always surrounded by drafts!

How many mystery writers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Oh god.

How many?

Two! One to change the bulb, and the other to give it an unexpected twist at the end!

What do writers have for breakfast?

Coffee?

Synonym buns!

Where do all the struggling writers live?

How are you coming up with all these?

Where?

Writer's Block!

What do writers suffer from each spring?

(I've heard a lot of them over the years.)

Allergies. Next question.

you were close; A case of allegories

Why are writers always in great shape?

Circular prose

Nope! It's because we're always running out of ideas!

Did you hear about the famous writer who turned out to be a fraud?

I did not

His life had it's prose and cons...

Why is editing a better job than writing?

It's more rewording?

Correct! I am out of jokes. :(

Anonymous asked:

What do you think of the Hunting Dogs? Specifically, what do you think of Tecchou and Jouno's role in the narrative (and Tachihara's)?

Hello anon!

I have briefly mentioned the Hunting Dogs here and here

These are some general thoughts on them I am quoting from the two metas I linked:

The Hunting Dogs are so obsessed by the idea of justice that they forget to balance it with empathy. All in all, if there are characters in the series who are “too correct” that would be them and not Yosano. They have failed to realize it so far, but it is possible they will have to rethink their ways.

After all, they are fighting against a group called the Decay of Angels. It has been said that this group wants to destroy the same society the Hunting Dogs want to protect and they are clearly using people’s ideals and biased concepts of right and wrong to manipulate them and turn them into accomplices of their scheme. All in all, they are the perfect enemies for the Hunting Dogs and the arc is clearly hinting at the fact that the Dogs will have to face their shortcomings (after all the current chapters are called Skyfall).

And again:

The Hunting Dogs are so convinced that they are the heroes who should punish criminals that they don’t even realize that the people they are trying to kill are innocent. They are so sure to be the right side that they can’t see that they have become pawns of that same criminal organization that they are supposed to stop.

I think that these two extracts highlight two ideas connected to the HD.

1) The danger of justice without empathy.

2) The hypocrisy behind some ideals people can embrace.

The first point can be easily summarized by using two words mentioned in Yosano’s story:

“Correctness” stands for justice, whereas “kindness” stands for empathy. In short, what is suggested is that judging a person only because of the results of their actions ignoring the feelings and the reasons why they took their choices is detrimental.

However, this is what the Hunting Dogs are doing:

Fukuchi is Fukuzawa’s childhood friend, but he has no hesitation in hunting and killing Fukuzawa’s subordinates even if it is implied he himself might not personally want it. He does so just because they have been identified as criminals.

In short they seem to be in the story to explore this idea:

Justice is a weapon. It can be used to cause harm, but it cannot protect or save others.

Dazai Osamu

The second point is interesting because it shows that deep down the HD are really no different from the stray dogs (both the mafia and the ADA) they despise so much.

Let’s consider this:

Here Tachihara is talking about the HD, but it is not by chance that his words could very well be true for the mafia as well:

This perfectly shows that ironically the HD are not much different from the mafiosi who are ready to kill others to maintain Mori’s idea of peace.

The HD are proud because they see themselves as heroes of justice. They are not stray dogs, but dogs selected and adopted by a master (aka the governement) and this makes them better than others. At least, this is probably what they force themselves to believe.

The ironic thing is of course that all of them are portrayed with attributes society would consider problematic.

Teruko is sadistic and violent, while Jouno enjoys psychologically torturing people. Finally Tachihara is in the HD simply because he wants to find a place to belong.

All in all, among the four subordinates, Tecchou is the one who probably genuinely believes in justice, but his idea is simplicistic and naive as it was explained in point one.

In short, the HD are imperfect humans just like everybody else and they have found a reason of living in their organization just like the members of the ADA and of the mafia did.

This is also why they are so easily manipulated. It is because in order to truly think about “right” and “wrong” in a constructive way, they should let go of the labels they use to read the world. However, they can’t because if they did they could very well lose themselves.

In the end the HD are foils of the detectives just like the mafiosi, but they are so in a different way.

The mafiosi are who the detectives could become if they were to completely lose themselves in their most violent and darkest parts, while the HD are who the detectives could become if they were to embrace simplicistic ideals over people. This is also why this arc has been particularly hard on Kunikida since among the members of the ADA he is the one who risks to do so the most.

I will now briefly discuss the connections between each HD and one member of the ADA they foil. Since the arc is not over, some of these ideas must be considered generally and we have to see how they will play out.

heres the thing.

the hunting dogs are not in the wrong here. taking the base argument of “the hunting dogs stabbed the ada, especially kenji!” and the other argument of “tachihara betrayed and killed hirotsu and gin!” i’m going to try and explain this as calmly as possible.

this. is. their. job.

the ada have been framed as terrorists. as far as this reality goes, they ARE terrorists. as far as we’re aware, it is the sole job of the hunting dogs to track down and neutralize ability-user terrorists. you have to remember that kenji literally flipped a tank and attacked military officials while the ada was fleeing. you have to remember that the hunting dogs are the law, and they’re just trying to capture the terrorists.

as for tachihara betraying the mafia and stabbing hirotsu and gin: the mafia are literally aiding terrorists. not to mention, tachihara has WITNESSED the amount of crimes those two have committed. if tachihara hadn’t killed them, they would have gotten capital punishment anyway for aiding terrorists and numerous other crimes.

now, i’d like to point out some other things.

  • if you want to be mad at the dogs for hurting the ada and the PM, that’s totally fine. however, please keep in mind that fyodor and the rats are the ones orchestrating this conflict. not only that, but the hunting dogs have been stated to be on dazai’s side of the chessboard rather than fyodor’s.
  • you can dislike tachihara for presumably killing 2 of your favorite characters. but please also bear in mind while you attack him for that that ango’s betrayal led to oda’s death and dazai also betrayed the mafia, severely impacting several of its members.
  • TWO members of the hunting dogs (fukuchi ochi, suehiro tetcho) have expressed that they don’t want to hunt the ada. ochi has told fukuzawa he would try his best to protect the ada if they surrendered so the dogs would no longer be made to hunt them. tetcho made a promise not to kill any of the ada or lucy.
  • the hunting dogs are some of the only characters that are on the side of the law in bsd.
  • the ONLY hunting dog that has expressed a desire to kill innocent people is jono. the rest of the hunting dogs seem to be doing their job and nothing more, even teruko (as revealed in the latest chapter, she wouldn’t kill innocent people even if those people are being sent to kill her).

tl;dr: it is okay to dislike the hunting dogs. however, they are NOT villains and they definitely are not in the wrong for their actions.

WRONG

Trap Master can only be flipped during your turn or by the effect of another card. Since no card has been activated to trigger such an effect, Trap Master cannot be activated in response to Trap Stun.

THE DOG GOES.

The effect of Prediction Princess Tarotrei can flip trap monster face up on the opponents turn.

THE DOG STAYS

Once we send that Prediction Princess Tarotrei to the graveyard, our trap sealing will stick around.

The dog goes.

Ritual Sealing does not negate, only destroy. Prediction Princess Tarotrei is destroyed, but its effect is still carried out.
