And You May Tell Yourself

The Enterprise has been enlisted to deliver supplies to a pair of xenoarchaeologists that have been living and working on the uninhabited planet M-113 for five years. Nancy and Robert Crater are good friends of Leonard McCoy's... and, okay, during med school they may even briefly have been more than friends of his. They're good people, and he's thrilled to have the opportunity to catch up with them-- until an ensign turns up dead, and Nancy is the only suspect.

Every answer they find throughout the course of the investigation only turns up more questions...

(Yes, yes, I'm posting about this fic again. Last time, I promise; I just figured it wasn't a bad thing to make a general summary post now that it's fully published.)

This fic is an AOS twist on the Original Series episode "The Man Trap", but don't let it fool you. The further the plot progresses, the less it resembles its source material. It's got DRAMA and BAD JOKES and BANTER AS FLIRTING and not one but TWO emotionally resonant moments in a turbolift. It's a Spones fic, but it leans just as heavily on Bones's relationships with Jim Kirk and Christine Chapel as it does his relationship with Spock, plus there's a fun background cast of OCs and canon characters alike.

It's the longest, plottiest piece of writing I've ever produced, and I'm wildly proud of it.

“Until then, Commander Maddox, I will continue learning, changing, growing and trying to become more than what I am.”

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - 4.11 DATA’S DAY

Look I just think Star Trek is about all of these lonely people who were alienated for one reason or another finding solace and love and comfort in the darkness of space with a family they formed out of care and not obligation. Ok

no more characters who are nonbinary just because their species doesnt have gender. more characters that species dont have gender but still read up on human gender theory and realized they were still not into this shit

alien character who decided to give this gender thing a try and ends up detransitioning back to nonbinary

once i came out as nonbinary to this old lady i was doing volunteer work with and i explained what it was and she was like "oh! you're like the reverse of this one lady from star trek! her whole species was nonbinary but deep down inside she felt like she was a woman and she decided she wanted to be a woman. and they weren't happy with that but she was a woman inside and nothing would change her mind."
