I think you really do need to study the war part of war and peace because the War of 1812 was between Canada and USA and we won and America hates to remember that but there was a different French and Russian conflict in the same year that isn't called the war of 1812

boy, russian history is my major in the godfucking university and i’ve studied the french invasion of russia in school too and honestly i don’t really give a shit about That War between the usa and canada. also, i think people, you know, REALISE that Tolstoy, one of the Greatest Russian Authors Ever, didn’t give a shit about That War as well. moreover, who the usa and canada were in 1812?

Anon sounds like they are 12 year old Canadian trying to be hip with the adults. So Anon, please do better research.

In Canada an America, both the Continental American War Of 1812 and the French Invasion War Of 1812 are both shortened to - you guessed it - the War Of 1812. But thats only if you even bother to learn about both. Usually people just focus on the Napoleonic Wars part in Europe, because - that one actually mattered, and the American one didnt?

I mean, if Anon did study the Continental American War Of 1812 they would know that is was basically an offshot skirmish influenced by the Napoleonic Wars - it was because America was trading with France, and Good Old Britain didnt like that because they were trading with Russia, among other things like how Britain felt about American independence and how Britain felt about France.

And Anon is probably Canadian, not American, given the “we” aspect and the fact that literally no one in America gives a shit about this war (and during the war, people called it “Mr. Madisons War” because again, Americans thought it was just total bullshit and wanted nothing to do with it). This is never taught in American schools, because there are bigger and better things to discuss during the era (like, you know, Napoleon). And like, the only reason Canada ever bothers with it is because woo they burned the White House down (that is the only takeaway point I have ever seen for bringing this up in Canadian history).

ALSO the major impact this war had was on Native Americans, considering it was over their territories and they were some of the major forces when it started (see: the Shawnee anf Tecumseh). America and Canada could care less about Native Americans and their history - so why the fuck would Tolstoy, from Russia, even bother with it?

Sorry Anon. This is a minor point that literally no one outside of Continental America War History and Native America History needs to know or care about.

(Though to be honest I would definitely push hardcore for knowing about it because of Native American history, since Native Americans are constantly being erased from everything and people like to pretend we dont exist. But that is likely not what Anon meant by any of this, so.)

thank you for this addition!!! it’s important!!!
