Shy but fiesty lover of nature, pretty much anything outdoors and animals. I love reading, writing, playing video (and board) games, binging wayyyy too much TV, sitting under a heating blanket, naps, attention, and fod (basically I am a cat). I have a possibly obssessive love of kids movies (Beauty and the Beast all the way babes) but also with crime shows (Derek, Spencer, and Penelope especially will always have my heart). I have a stupid amount of knowledge on random things that have no relevnace to really anything so you know I am fun at dinner parties. All of this to say I am a sorta kinda human with a weird ass personality, or I might just be a house cat or dragon in a human form...                                                        Despite being shy I do love meeting and talking to new people so feel free to message me! Just keep it appropriate (see fiesty above for why)!                              Also I support BLM, I am a feminist, bisexual, and according to a lot of people I am a "liberal snowflake" (this is just to give an idea) so that tells you something about me and if you are on the opposite side of that kindly get the hell off my page.

If you’re an adult, do the stuff you couldn’t as a kid.

Like, me and my sister went to a museum, and they had an extra exhibit of butterflies. But it cost £3. So we sighed, walked past, then stopped. We each had £3. We could see the butterflies. And we did it was great. We followed it up with an ice-cream as well because Mum and Dad weren’t there to say no.

I was driving back from a work trip with 2 other people in their early 20s, and we drove past a MacDonalds. One of the others went “Aww man, I’d love a McFlurry.” And the guy driving pulled in to the drive through. It was wild. But it was great.

I went to a park over the weekend and I was thinking “Man, I’d love to hire one of those bikes and cycle round the park.” It took me a few minutes to go “Wait, I can hire one of those bikes!”

I guess what I’m saying is, those impulsive things you wanted to do as a kid - see the dinosaur exhibit, play in the fountains with the other kids, lie in the shade for 2 hours - you can do when you’re an adult. You have to deal with a whole lot of other bull, but at least you can indulge your inner 8 year-old.

As someone recently diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, one thing that’s been helping me grapple with the intense shame I have over all my “wasted potential” is accepting that potential doesn’t exist and never did.

This sounds so harsh, but please bare with me.

I procrastinated a lot growing up. I still procrastinate today, but less so. And yet, I got good grades. I could write an A+ paper that “knocked [my professor]’s socks off” in the hour before class and print it with sweat running down my face.

I was so used to hearing from teachers and family that if I just didn’t procrastinate and worked all the time, I could do anything! I had all this potential I wasn’t living up to!

And that’s true, as far as it goes, but that’s like saying if Usain Bolt just kept going he could be the fastest marathon runner in the world. Why does he stop at the end of the race??

If ANYONE could make their top speed/most productive setting the one they used all the time, anyone could do anything. But you can’t. Your top speed is not a speed you’re able to sustain.

Now, I’ve found that I do need to work on not procrastinating. Not because the product is better, even, but because it’s better for my mental health and physical health to not have a full, sweating, panicked breakdown over every task even if the task itself turns out excellently. It’s a shitty way to live! You feel bad ALL the time! And I don’t deserve to live like that anymore.

So all of this to say, I’m not wasting a ton of potential. I don’t have an ocean of productivity and accomplishments inside of me that I could easily, effortlessly access if I just sat down 8 hours a day and worked. There’s no fucking way. That’s not real. It’s an illusion. It’s fine not to live up to an illusion.

And if you have ADHD, I mean this from the bottom of my heart: you do not have limitless potential confounded by your laziness. You have the good potential of a good person, and you can access it with practice and work, but do not accept the story that you are choosing not to be all that you are or can be. You are just a human person.

I feel like I just had an epiphany from this post... I was only recently diagnosed with ADHD, and so I feel like I am in the first baby steps of figuring out how to live my life the best way I can. Growing up, and even now, I keep getting told I'm wasting so much potential, but this post hits it on the head... I have a ton of potential, but I also have a lot of hurdles to over come which can make that difficult. I can't just focus on that potential because I am also trying to just figure out how to live in a way that benefits me. Beyond that, if you're figuring out how to live your best life that's potential you're reaching, not wasting. No one elses opinions on how you live your best life are important.

every single negative stereotype about women was dreamt up by men who were projecting. fight me about it.

“women can’t drive”

It is so well known that women are better and safer drivers than men that OUR CAR INSURANCE RATES ARE LOWER. Women get into fewer accidents, get fewer DUIs, and receive fewer speeding tickets than men.

“women never shut up”

Several scientific studies have shown that not only do men talk more than women, they also think that women have been talking for much longer than they actually have. Men interrupt and talk over women, dominate conversations, and still think women talk too much.

“women are shallow”

Lol next

“my wife is my ball and chain lmao”

Multiple studies have shown that marriage between men and women: Increases male lifespan, decreases female lifespan Decreases male depression rates, increases female depression rates Decreases male stress levels, increases female stress levels Increases male health and happiness, decreases female health and happiness Increases a man’s chance of getting a raise or promotion, decreases a woman’s chances of getting a raise or promotion

“women are too emotional”

Men love to say this about women after hurting them, in order to shift the blame and dismiss their feelings in one go. In reality, women are taught to hold our tongues and control ourselves quite literally from birth. We’re taught to put men’s needs and wants ahead of our own emotions regardless of the personal cost. Men are taught to do more or less whatever the fuck they want to women. Men take their emotions out on women while women are expected to shove theirs down.

I could go on and on but I don’t really think I need to.

for all you pissbabies crying about sources

100% this! There are so many more arguments that men try to make as well and its the most I'm better than you projecting bullshit every damn time

funniest thing would be if when Queen Elizabeth dies or steps down and Charles is all ready to assume the throne, here comes King Arthur, Excalibur in hand, sauntering back from Avalon like “oof what a nap! thanks for keeping the chair warm I’m back to be king again”

like, given that “King Arthur isn’t actually dead, he’ll be back to be King again someday” is, like, an actual aspect of the legend and a thing that a lot of people purport to believe, has anyone ever actually tried it? showing up to buckingham palace claiming to be Arthur Pendragon, The Once And Future King, and assume the throne? does the british government have a protocol for checking whether someone claiming to be King Arthur actually is? does parliament have a secret picture of the Real Excalibur kept under lock and key, only viewed if someone claims to be King Arthur, that they can use to confirm or refute the identity of alleged Kings Arthur? if not, how do they deter every jackass with a sward from pretending to be him? does filing a false King Arthur report constitute treason?

The rules are simple. “Arthur” has to show up with a sword. They give the sword to the Lady of the Lake, and if she throws it back to the claimant, he’s legit and gets to be king again.

So the test for King Arthur’s identity falls to the even less officially identifiable Lady of the Lake.  No one can even agree on which Lady, or which lake, is the official one, much less how to tell if you’ve got The Lady of The Lake.  All of which suggests that all you need to accomplish this is one (1) sword, a willing female acquaintance, and a nearby body of water.

There isn’t even any requirement for “Arthur” to catch the sword, so the Lady can just javelin an epee right at him.

Well when you look at it that way, one might conclude that strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

I need some serious answers now 😂

Like yes, please tell me the protocol!

When i've been reading a bunch of animal blogs i sometimes start to think about aliens talking about human husbandry

  • Humans are naturally creative and like to be given pigments, tools, adhesives, paper, and colorful items to create pictures, sculptures, and writing! Humans engage in these behaviors just out of infancy, even before developing fine motor skills. Be sure to offer praise to your human when they create an artistic work—they thrive on it!
  • Give your human access to a wide variety of colorful, soft, and shiny or reflective items to decorate their nest. Humans will often become depressed in nests without enough decorations.
  • Humans like to decorate themselves, too! Humans are happiest when they can choose their thermal-regulation articles from a selection in a wide variety of colors and patterns.
  • Never isolate a human from other humans! Humans are one of the most social species and will become sick if they cannot play and socialize with other humans. That said, humans have different individual social needs and some will need more time to themselves than others.
  • Humans usually prefer warmer water for bathing, but cooler water for drinking, so make sure your human has access to both!
  • Humans can happily live in symbiotic relationships with a variety of terran organisms, and these relationships can be highly beneficial to a human's wellbeing! Allow your human and its family unit to meet with several potential symbionts in order to find a suitable companion.
  • Singing and making rhythmic noises are natural human behaviors, so if you are not prepared for this, don't get a human!

So many folks talk about how they're being "forced to accept" things that go against their beliefs.

You're not being forced to accept them.

If you have a problem with people of color, with gay marriage, with trans people, with immigrants, with women of any race, etc. then you're still welcome to feel however you want to feel about those people. You're just not allowed to make their lives harder because of your feelings. You're not allowed to turn their daily lives into a battle ground.

No one is forcing you to "accept" a single thing. You're just not being allowed to terrorize people.

It's astounding how many people confuse "You are not allowed to treat people cruelly because of your own arbitrary beliefs" with "Forced acceptance."

The idea of common sense really does create a harsh world, where having had the opportunity to learn something is a point of superiority, and having been denied or just plain never given the opportunity is seen as a point of personal failure.

In a world where the idea of “common sense” rules, things seem fair at first. He got mugged there, when everyone knows that’s a dangerous street after dark. She got in a car accident, when everyone knows you have to start slowing down sooner in the snow.

But who is “everyone?” Not them, apparently. Obviously. They didn’t know. And now they’re hurt, or worse. He wasn’t from there. She was from somewhere it didn’t snow. Why didn’t anyone tell them?

We feel safe knowing that the only people who suffer are the people who just “don’t have common sense,” the people who are apparently just plain stupid, because we’re terrified of the truth, which is: bad things can happen to anyone at all, to good people, to you, and they’re more likely to happen to those who didn’t have the right knowledge for the situation, the “common sense” they needed to stay safe.

And this idea of “common sense” targets marginalized groups more than anyone, people who have been continually denied opportunities to learn, or people whose disabilities create hurdles. But anyone can be victim to this groupthink.

How many times have I met someone with apparently “no common sense,” who was raised in an abusive or neglectful household, who has had a developmental disability, or who simply and fairly just hasn’t been in this sort of situation before?

We think of common sense as the most base level of knowledge, as something “everyone,” should know. But I hold firmly that everything, everyone knows, has either been learned, or taught.

A cactus is sharp, obviously don’t touch one. How do I know? I grabbed one in my mom’s garden as a toddler, and we had to remove the needles for hours. Wouldn’t it have been better for me, and for everyone involved, if an adult–before letting me loose in the garden that they knew had sharp plants–had told me “don’t touch that cactus, it will hurt you.” It would have cost them nothing. And sure, maybe I would have anyway, that’s human, to be told and to still have to learn yourself from time to time.

But the point is, nobody blamed me. Nobody looked at me, a child, and thought “what an idiot, everyone knows cacti are full of needles.”

Because I was a child, and they gave me the benefit of the doubt that I hadn’t had the chance to learn yet. And they wished they’d told me instead of letting me get hurt.

So let’s start looking at everyone–not as children–but as beings who just maybe haven’t encountered this yet, haven’t gotten the chance to know yet, or who have been denied it.

Let’s stop labeling people as stupid or not based on what we assume they should already know.

Let’s start teaching each other, when we can, if we can without hurting ourselves.

And we’ll genuinely, truly, make the world a better, safer, more gentle place.

This is of particular importance to me, as someone who has grown up in an abusive house.

The CDC Director is really out here straight up promoting eugenics.

“Good news everyone! Only the disabled and chronically ill are dying so that’s REALLY ENCOURAGING. No need to change a thing. Let ‘er rip!”

CDC Diretor be like

[ID: Headline that reads “Would Anyone Notice If We Started Endorsing Eugenics?”]

For all y’all going ?!? I need you to know this is not an exaggeration.

The CDC director says fuck disabled and chronically ill lives. I’m also going to point out that you’re significantly more likely to be disabled if you are Native American or Black so this is also racist. The CDC out here officially cheering our deaths is just the perfect way to start 2022.

[ID: A series of four screen grabs of Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC Director, speaking on TV. The subtitles read “The overwhelming number of deaths, over 75%, occurred in people who had at least four comorbidities. So really these are people who were unwell to begin with and yes, really encouraging news in the context of Omicrom.”]

What makes this worse is that something like half the people living in this country have some kind of comorbid or pre-existing condition. And the CDC knows that perfectly well.

So while it IS good news that Omicron is apparently less deadly than previous mutations, it is NOT in any way acceptable for the CDC or the press to throw literal millions of people under the COVID bus and just shrug it off like, "Welp, they were sick anyway."

For SHAME.

If you would report an undocumented immigrant to ICE you would have reported me to the Nazis and I don’t fucking trust you

A note:

I live in a state where you “have to” report anyone you suspect of being undocumented (that wonderful hellhole of Arizona). Now in practice this law has fallen far short, thank goodness. But if you live in such a place and they start enforcing it, here is how you get around it:

Assume everyone who doesn’t speak English is visiting.

Never ask about their job, because if they tell you they work here then you know they’re not visiting. You see them a lot for several weeks or months? Hm. Someone in the family must be ill. That’s terribly tough. They always dress in old, ratty laborers’ clothes? I feel you, my dude, I can’t afford new clothes either, and my dad has the fashion sense of an aardvark, so sometimes it’s not even about “affording” them. They say they’ve been here for years? You must have misunderstood. Spanish isn’t your first language, after all. First and last name? It never came up, or you don’t recall–you meet a lot of people.

And then, if you’re asked: no, you haven’t seen anyone residing illegally in the United States. Just people visiting.

Very good very important addition

Essentially, this is the civil society version of a work-to-rule strike.

Don’t do more than is expressly asked of you, and do what you are asked with such an intense attention to protocol that not asking you at all becomes more effective than even bothering.

In this case:

“Have you seen an illegal immigrant?”

“Could you describe an illegal immigrant, officer?”

*officer describes a person who is in the country without appropriate paperwork, or who has crossed the border illegally*

“No, sir, I haven’t seen any illegal immigrant.”

And this is correct. You have NOT seen an illegal immigrant, because you have no way of knowing if Jose Fulano is here legally or not. And since you can’t see his paperwork (or lack thereof), and did not personally see him cross the border illegally, you are only answering precisely the question asked.

I’m not American, and I have like, three followers, but this is important.

So, I’m a lawyer, who deals with immigration though does not specialize in it. But here’s the thing(s):

1) Even someone who’s working could be here on a migrant (or other sort of) visa (hey, there are a few thousand per year, and *someone*’s got to get them, right?) or could be waiting for their case to resolve in immigration court, after having come to America to join a born or naturalized American family member.

2) Even people who are working improperly could have come into the country legally – and just overstayed their visa or be violating the conditions of their visa, and you have no idea what the niggly little regulations that govern that might be.

3) If a law enforcement officer asks you about a neighbor/friend/etc., take this moment to remind them that, unlike them, you cannot ask a random person off the street for their ID and be entitled to a response.

4) Even if someone has told you that they are undocumented, you still don’t know, do you? Humans lie all the time. How could you know for sure? You can’t, because they can’t prove that they have a lack of papers. Just because you haven’t seen papers doesn’t mean they don’t exist!

5) Don’t ever talk to cops in general. Why are you talking to a cop? Stop that, as soon as it is safe and feasible.

Love,

a very tired public defender

>go to Draculas castle

>he has a humidifier

>pour two liter of holy water into it

>leave

Everyone, do not do this! Your local Dracula probably isn’t hurting you, and helps manage the area’s wolf and rat populations! In fact, most Draculas never leave their castles for more than an hour or two a night unless disturbed by humans. The FEW recent cases of Dracula attacks have all been proven to have been the result of a stressed Dracula mistaking clumsy hikers for its natural enemy, the werewolf. After overhunting by millennials in the 2000s, there are fewer than a thousand Draculas left in the wild today! Please stop spreading misinformation about an endangered species crucial to the ecosystem :(

Ok look I get where you’re coming from and here’s the thing: Draculas are crucial to their ecosystem. None of the information you’ve provided is accurate to North America, where Draculas are an extremely invasive species. I don’t get where you’re getting the “less than a thousand left” figure, unless you’re citing an out of date study from 2006. Their numbers are still worryingly low in Eastern Europe, but they’re not currently in danger of extinction.

You know what species is? Chupacabras.

The local chupacabra populations in North America are dwindling dangerously due to predation from Draculas. We can protect both species in their own natural habitats, but not in each other’s. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Mexican Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales both encourage the trapping of Draculas. Now, there are humane ways to do it, and you can look into them on your own time, but if you see a Dracula in North America, it is not supposed to be there.

This could all be avoided if people spayed and neutered their pet Draculas and stopped letting them free roam. Draculas don’t “need” to free roam, they do great on harnesses and enclosed pens, and free roaming opens them up to dangers from other predators and vehicle strikes, not to mention parasites, disease, fights with other Draculas and abuse from shady humans who take pot shots at them with crossbows.

For their sake and wildlife sake, keep your Dracula indoors.

Guys… when talking about the invasive species PLEASE use the correct terminology. Your local domestic vampire MIGHT be a Dracula or he MIGHT be a Cullen or Nosferatu or some other type, and it makes a difference as far as bait and deterrents. You’re better off consulting a pro with this kind of thing, because take it from me — the last thing you want is to spend a fortune on a Dracula trap filled with virginal maidens in nightgowns only to find out that the Lestat that’s been stalking your neighborhood would have been just as happy with a silk scarf and a few bottles of cheap red.

Everyone may *think* they hate country music, but when Jolene, Before He Cheats, Take Me Home Country Roads, or Life is a Highway comes on, everyone is suddenly a liar.

I know this is a funny post but

There are a few major points in Country Music’s history that got the entire genre labeled as ‘annoying’

  • Post 9/11 nationalism
  • A term that I couldn’t make up “Bro-Country” which intensifies themes of booze, objectifying women, and partying that were present in past decades but not to such an extent
  • This is Gospel Music But With an Accent

Now looking at the songs op listed there is

  • A woman pleading to another woman
  • A woman wrecking a shitheads life
  • A guy loving the scenery of where he lived
  • A song that could easily be mistaken for a number of other genres

But it is easier to say that one hates country while privately enjoying select songs than explain why one doesn’t like the current market oversaturated with our nation’s problems of nationalism, sexism, and so on

see also jhonny cash/willie nelson era songs which were deeply emotional stories often about painful and deep subjects. prison, loss of loved ones, hard labor, facing despair, passion. ‘ghost riders in the sky’ and the like are also deeply satisfying as they bridge more into folklore then ‘murica fuck yeah im sponsored by bud light yall’ another example- ‘midnight in montgomery’ where hank williams junior sings about the ghost of his father

“ … And felt the wind die down, And a drunk man in a cowboy hat, Took me by surprise, Wearin’ shiny boots, a nudie suit, and haunted, haunted eyes, He said: “Friend, it’s good to see you, It’s nice to know you care” Then the wind picked up and he was gone, Was he ever really there? ‘Cause when the wind is right, You’ll hear his song, Smell whisky in the air, Midnight in Montgomery, He’s always singin’ there, “ the reason we ‘hate country’ is because we know its supposed to have FEELING and its infuriatingly absent now

70s country - bluegrass traditional

80s country - power ballads

90s country - pop crossover

00s country - white supremacy
